Having won a record contract through a contest in their hometown of Newcastle, Australia, the band recorded FROGSTOMP in less than two weeks, and the album entered the Australian charts at number one, a down-under first. It's easy to see why: ... Full Descriptiongripping guitar structures, reminiscent of hard-rock antecedents from Black Sabbath to Dinosaur Jr., support howled vignettes of adolescent frustration. "Leave Me Out" has the same head-nodding lurch as the best Sabbath riffs, and song titles like "Suicidal Dream," "Pure Massacre" and "Madman" bring the whole freak-out theme home. "Cicada" drives the youth point further, with singer/guitarist Daniel Johns realizing that "growing old is like a Civil War."
Silverchair has done its homework well. FROGSTOMP is an aggresive debut for a band that makes up for their lack of age with impressive musical chops.
Forget the fact that two-thirds of Silverchair will be in their teens 'til the year 2000; the band's debut, FROGSTOMP, spills with full-throttled guitar angst worthy of bands twice their age.
Silverchair: Daniel Johns (vocals, guitar); Chris Joannou (bass); Ben Gillies (drums).

Musician (8/95, p.92) - "...Pearl Jam's melodic uplift and Helmet's amp-taxing intensity....masters of sonic sculpture, deftly using feedback and distortion to build vast cathedrals of sound out of their barrel-chord riffs and lean catchy choruses. Once upon a time a few youngsters decide to enter a competetion, they win a record deal. They create an album in a couple of weeks and before you know it, a few 15 year olds have an album on the shelves. The album is good at what it does, recites simple melodies accompanied by a crunching grunge guitar, although this is also its weakness. There is hardly any depth here, most of the songs have poor lyrics, and many of the riffs are rip offs (Leave Me Out = Sweet Leaf).
So why do I give this album 4 stars? To be honest I don't know. I like grunge music even if it's not very good grunge music, It's practically my guilty pleasure. You must also admire the fact that a few teens could release an album this good. To simply put it, It's essential enough for Grunge collectors, a lot better than any other post-grunge band, (Nickelback, Creed, Staind, You know what you're doing to music!)

Classic As far as I'm concerned, the future will regard this album as one of the best of the 90's. Do yourself a favor, and put it in your CD player and just press play. Start at Israel's Son, and let it run until the guitar fades at the end of Findaway. It'll be 45 minutes you won't regret. Submitted by Andrew (Toronto, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$7.59 So the Offspring jumped ship from California proto-indie Epitaph to corporate behemoth Columbia. So what? Anyone who thinks going for the brass ring is less than "punk" should remember that back in the days of No Future, the Sex Pistols, the Clash and their brethren set their sights on nothing less than total world domination. Despite their proletarian orientations, the godfathers of punk were determined to become rock stars in order to shove their messages down the world's collective throat. So, don't give the Offspring any grief for taking ...

Frogstomp CD music
$10.29 The three members of Silverchair are still in their teens, but the band's second album displays a real maturity to go with its musical variety; FREAK SHOW expands the typical grunge palette to include timpani, sitar and a string section (which features Jane Scarpantoni, cellist to the alt-rock stars). The themes continue to be dark and heavy. Along with the earnest and agonizing confessionals, this time there are also angry responses to criticism of Silverchair's first album, 1995's FROGSTOMP, which ...

$15.69 BIOGRAPHY The Beginning Crystal Tears is a speed/power metal band from Thessaloniki, Hellas, formed in September '97. Their activities during that period were writing songs and giving concerts in different parts of their town. In June '98 the band underwent some changes in its formation. The vocalist, the rhythm guitarist and the bass player left the group. "Skies Of Eternity" In August '98 a solid line-up was formed by: - Michael Glanias: vocals, keyboards - George Zaimis: lead guitars - Kimon Pantelidakis: rhythm guitars - Stelios Papadopoulos: bass guitar - Chrisafis Tantanozis: drums (Necessary to mention that Kimon used to play the lead guitars before the change) Crystal Tears entered the studio in September '98 to record their demo CD "Skies Of Eternity". Their work was released in January '99. The sales of the CD have been going very well and their activities to promote their work have been numerous indeed. Many concerts were given with a lot of success (first concert on 6th March '99) and they came in contact with many people that are dealing with underground scene. Noteworthy facts are that the italian record company Underground Symphony came in contact with them, but there was no contract signed after all, and that a journalist of a popular metal magazin of Hellas voted "Skies Of Eternity" as one of the best 20 albums of the year '99. "Promoworks" In January '00 Crystal Tears entered the studio to record a promo CD with two new songs. The CD was self-financed for one more time and was released in July '00. However, just a couple of months before the CD's release, George Zaimis, the lead guitarist of the band, had to leave the band. Fortunately, his subtitute was found quick enough under the face of Dimitris Goutziamanis. "Promoworks" promotion has been going very well too, meaning that the band sold again a good number of CDs and played a good number of concerts inside and outside their town as well (first concert outside Thessaloniki on 21st July in Kozani). Nevertheless, in March '01, Michael Glanias, the vocalist and keyborder of the band, left Crystal Tears. Crystal Tears became four-membered after Michael's departure and gave some concerts with that line-up with the drummer Chrisafis on vocals and drums as well. The concert went really good. In October '01 Crystal Tears found ...
