NINE LIVES was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
"Pink" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video.
NINE LIVES marks Aerosmith's return to Columbia Records, the label for which it had its first round of stardom in the 1970s, and the label with which the band nearly slid off the rock and roll map altogether in the 1980s. Columbia shelled out a lot of money to woo back the now-bigger-than-ever band, and ends up getting exactly the kind of over-the-top pop-rock it was paying for. Working with producer Kevin Shirley (Silverchair, Journey), the seemingly ageless combo from Boston has made another record overflowing with sexual innuendo ("Pink", "Falling In Love [Is Hard On The Knees]"), power ballads ("Fallen Angels," "Hole In My Soul") and hard-hitting riffs ("Nine Lives," "Crash").
Continuing its recent fascination with sounds alien to hard rock (didja notice the Polynesian log drums on 1993's GET A GRIP?), Aerosmith dabbles with Indian culture on NINE LIVES. You can see it in the colorful packaging of the album, and hear it on "Taste Of India," which picks up where Led Zeppelin's classic "Kashmir" left off. The culturally confused epic features qawwali-esque vocalizing (a la Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan), a sarangi (an Indian fiddle) and, of course, some old-fashioned rock and roll.
Additional personnel includes: Ramesh Mishra (sarengi); John Webster (keyboards).
Principally recorded at Avatar Studios, New York, New York.
Aerosmith: Steven Tyler (vocals, hammered dulcimer, harmonica, piano, hand organ, keyboards, percussion); Brad Whitford (acoustic guitar, guitar); Joe Perry (guitar, slide guitar, dulcimer, background vocals); Tom Hamilton (bass, Chapman stick); Joey Kramer (drums).
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Rolling Stone (3/20/97, pp.83-84) - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...Aerosmith can be relied on to temper their...machismo with plenty of humor, heart and artistic ingenuity..." Q (4/97, p.117) - 4 Stars (out of 5) - "...something of a grand opus....orchestrations galore....with this general riot of itchy solos, raucous innuendo, violent rhythm-pistons and smeared-on harmonies, Aerosmith haven't fallen far short of the mighty PUMP." Great Rock From A Great Band !!!!!!!! From the start, this album is a sleezy, sexual, hard-rocking masterpiece from the Gods of Rock. Thier musicianship gets better with every album, and this is a perfect example. No matter the events of the past, everything comes together beautifully on Nine Lives. Nine Lives
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than ...

Along with Styx and REO Speedwagon, Journey ruled the charts and radio airwaves in the early '80s. And like the aforementioned bands, Journey began in the '70s, so obviously the compilers of its 1988 GREATEST HITS release had a lot of material to choose from.
Journey's sound was a merger of hard rock, compliments of guitarist ...

Nine Lives
$10.15 THE HISTORY OF THE RHYTH-0-MATICSThe RHYTH-O-MATICS’ first gig was in 1984 to play benefits for the U.S.Presidential campaign of Jesse Jackson, who, at that time was about the only American politician who was interested in South Africa and committed to bringing the situation there to the attention of the American public. The response to the RHYTH-0-MATICS,(at the time a predominantly white group) in the S.F. Black community was overwhelming and we knew that the time was right for African-influenced "World Beat" music in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Andrew Scott, the original drummer for the band had been in an African influenced band called The Ivory Coasters in England, Dave Somers had played in a calypso band called Cool Breeze, Rudy Ortiz had played with Batucajé, a Latin Band and Jimmy Foot had a band, Reggae Jackson that played a blend of reggae and South American rhythms. Ernest Boykin had played with Torch, a singer into dance music. We were all interested in the Two-Tone Ska sound from England as well as instrumental music from South Africa, and west Africa. We recorded our first album "Walking In The Shadow" for Catero records (out-of print, but some copies are available from BONGO BOY RECORDS) which was an even mix of those styles and included three originals and covers from some of our favorite artists: Orchestra Makassey, the Skatalites, Dudu Pukwana, and Orchestre Lipua Lipua. The LP was produced by BOB JOHNSTON, world renown for his albums for DYLAN, JOHNNY CASH, and JIMMY CLIFF to name a few."Walking In the Shadow" was released in 1985 and received rave reviews from SPIN magazine, BILLBOARD, the BEAT as well as numerous local magazines and newspapers. Despite critical acclaim, the record company was going under while the band was touring we'd travel hundreds of miles to play gigs to support a record that nobody could find in the stores. The record was sent to hundreds of DJs though, and has received a good deal of airplay. Cheap imitations of the "Walking In the Shadow" LP were pirated and distributed who knows where, but, all in all, the original pressings (pressed by Teledyne of West Germany) only sold a few thousand copies for the band and was held up and off the market. It was a frustrating time, as Catero Records went from distributor and losing more money with each one. In the end, Catero Records folded. The band was going through a transitional phase, and underwent some changes. Dave Somers left the band and Andrew Scott left the band and was replaced by Jim Sagebiel. Clark Gayton played with the band for a while, sitting in for Wayne Wallace on trombone. The RHYTH-0-MATICS released a 12" , red vinyl single in 1988 on BONGO BOY RECORDS of "Skatalation", a modern Ska "smoker" and "Trickster", an Afro-Brasilian, Fela-ish song about the tricksters found in the folklore of Africa and South America. Jimmy Foot brought in Mic Gillette (Tower of Power) and sax player Bill Slais (who co-wrote “Fooled Around And ...
