When Boston's self-titled debut landed in the Top 5 in 1976, their combination of powerful lead and background vocals, up-front guitars and slick production made the world safe for corporate rock. Twenty years hence, Boston mastermind/studio ... Full Descriptiongeek Tom Scholz has been releasing records and touring on an average of once every seven years, going through a handful of vocalists and engaging in major court battles for recording freedom. All this leads up to the GREATEST HITS package, a mixture of old and new Boston that is like a time capsule of '70s rock riffs. An Up-With-People message found in the newer material ties in with Scholz's support of PETA, evidenced by pictures of photogenic animals dotting the CD booklet.
Contains previously unreleased material.
Recorded at Foxglove Studios, Watertown, Massachusettes in winter 1975; Capitol Studios, Hollywood, California; The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California in spring 1976.

| Greatest Hits Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Boston's Best This album is great. It has all of the known Boston hits as well as the new song "Higher Power." In fact, "Higher Power" is my favorite Boston song, and this is the only album where you can get it! Submitted by CD_Music_Freak (Earth) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
MUST HAVE for any classic rock fan Nothing beats this Greatest Hits album! The melodic structure of these songs combined with Scholz's amazing song writing abilities makes for a very smooth, great sounding album. If you like classic rock you will love Boston's greatest hits. I had this album for about 4 years before it was misplaced and the music still didn't get old. The only reason I'm buying a replacement is because I want their hole discography now! Submitted by Denver (Peace River, AB, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Nice Compilation Tip of the hat to Tom Scholz and Co. for a nice collection of an era of music. While the critics say Boston didn't make albums quick enough, so be it. This CD does a nice job of representing the classic debut CD, as well as tracks like Feelin Satisfied and Don't Look Back from the second effort and Cool the Engines and the ballad Amanda from Third Stage. I would have loved to see Cant You Say from Third Stage and What's Your Name from the CD Walk On but I still credit Tom for doing a solid job in putting together a full collection from this underrated band. Tom Scholz is a musical genius! Submitted by David (Middletown, NJ USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
EXCELENT ALBUM....BUT AFTER A GREAT AND BRILLIANT RELEASE OF THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL BAND EVER I WISH THAT THEY INCLUDED THE SONG "HOLLYANNE" FROM 3RD STAGE. TO ME THAT SONG AND MAYBE "WERE READY" WOULD HAVE MADE THIS RELEASE MORE THAN JUST PERFECT. BUT THIS STUFF IS JUST TOO GOOD TO PUT DOWN. THIS BAND AND THIS CD ROCKS!!!!! | | Zack Orr Unstoppable Lift CD (2003)
Greatest Hits album
$12.55 "I'm a huge fan of impressionistic music," says modern folk singer Zack Orr. "I love to try to set scenes with songs and sound."Thus, the percussive acoustic guitar, lush electronic soundscapes, and jazz-influenced songwriting style on his debut album, The Unstoppable Lift, reflect the wide-ranging impressions the young musician has absorbed. Although influenced by such artists as Paul Simon, Jeff Buckley, Elvis Costello, Ani DiFranco, and Bjork, his style has been most affected by his travels, from his teenage years in rural Pennsylvania to Austin, London, and, now, Los Angeles. Two years in the making, this independently released gem weaves in and out of swing, funk, electronica, modern folk, Americana, and jazz. Early on, Zack's songs were praised by veteran rock critic Ben Fong-Torres, a former Senior Editor of Rolling Stone, who called them "stunning and inventive," and noted Zack "just may be unstoppable."Zack's intensely personal tunes can be politically charged, or satirical and humorous, all while telling intricate stories. "Austin has an intense songwriting tradition," Zack says. "People like Townes Van Zandt, Lyle Lovett, and Willie Nelson reign supreme. I started to stretch out and develop as a storyteller while living there. You can definitely hear the Austin in 'Jack Horner' and 'Amsterdam,'" elaborate tunes with plot twists that push and pull at the music's direction. The Unstoppable Lift was also shaped by Zack's time living in London, where he performed in coffeehouses and bars as well as busking in the Underground. "London has so much history and culture," he says. "You can't help but feel inspired and humbled." A frequent haunt was Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho. "Pretty much every night of the week, a jazz legend, or someone who played with one, was performing," says Zack. The high-caliber musicianship left a mark on him, and he applied jazz-based harmonic ideas to many of Unstoppable's songs, adding color and texture to his complex wordplay.Zack also soaked up London's electronic-music scene. "A club called The Velvet Room served up intimate weekly performances with the super-influential resident DJ, ...

| | Dave Dill Follow The Summer CD (2008)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$10.09 *****Available for download at iTunes*****Dave Dill’s “Follow the Summer” is his fifth solo release and is by far, his most stunning and beautiful album to date. Having been influenced by The Beatles and Brian Wilson, his music is reminiscent of the pop masters of the 60’s and 70’s while retaining a uniquely modern style of songwriting which is fresh sounding and melodically driven. Dill is solely responsible for all of the songwriting, vocals, instrumentation, and production with the addition of co-writing and co-producing three songs with legendary songwriter Derek Holt of The Climax Blues Band.“Perfect There” features Dill’s innate ability to balance exemplary songwriting with highly creative instrumentation. The song features a surreal acoustic guitar blended with a rhythmic, dream-like synthesizer acting as percussion with a “time” feel that is immersive and mesmerizing. One of the most experimental sounding of all of Dill’s songs, “Perfect There” is an atmospheric jewel and features his ability to easily switch from varying musical styles with ease.“Never So Beautiful” is a pop masterpiece and features soft harmonic vocals, a strikingly complex arrangement of instrumentation and a vibrant melodic energy akin to Brian Wilson’s “God Only Knows”. This song best represents Dill’s perceptive production skills and features a subtle, yet sunny mandolin artfully balanced with a vintage Rhodes piano and soaring vocal choruses. “Hide and Seek”, is one of three songs co-written and co-produced with Derek Holt, who wrote and sang the hit classic rock ballad “I Love You”. “Hide and Seek” is a gorgeous palette of Dill’s soothing vocal style, honeyed Harrisonesque slide guitar, and prominent melodic percussion. Holt’s exceptional skills as a co-producer on this track are quite apparent, as this song is undeniably strong in its genuine emotional tone and incorporates an intriguing lyrical story line that is also evident in Holt’s beautiful, timeless track, “I Love ...
