BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR nearly snuck into record stores, preceded by a strange absence of hype. The implicit message of its five new songs, like that of the non-marketing campaign for the album, seems to be: enough already, let's get back to ... Full Descriptionthe music. The title song, a colder re-write of the Jackson classic "Billie Jean," draws you in, but Jackson quickly gets to the heart of the album with two astonishing songs that address his public image. "Ghosts" has an icy, metallic beat, while "Is It Scary" has the dramatic flair of a big pop ballad, but they feature nearly identical opening verses about ghosts and ghouls behind the walls and under the bed. In the former song, the ghouls are the paparazzi snapping pictures of Jackson's baby, and he asks of them, "Who gave you the right...Are you the ghost of jealousy?" In the next song, the ghosts turn out to be the many public faces of Michael Jackson, and he turns the image around, suggesting that ghoulishness is in the eye of the beholder: "If you wanna see eccentricalities/I'll be grotesque before your eyes...Is that scary for you, baby?"
It's a declaration of self-confidence, and Jackson follows with feisty remixes of songs from HISTORY, including a version of "2 Bad" peppered with a sample of "Beat It," and a Madonna-like disco mix of "Stranger In Moscow."

Spin (8/97, p.113) - 6 (out of 10) - "...Jackson's stuttering thwocks and plunks have become an utterly unique form of funk. If the 47-minute HISTORY IN THE MIX part of this record--remixes from his flop 1995 album--fails almost entirely, it's because the remixers take out the best parts, Jackson's individualized beats..." Q (6/00, p.122) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Tones down some of the original's more overwrought elements with 8 remixes from dance heavyweights such as David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Todd Terry....Most bizarre, but most effective." Michael Jackson Blood On The Dance Floor: History In The Mix Songs Blood On The Dance Floor: History In The Mix Music Blood On The Dance Floor: History In The Mix Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Dance the night away This cd is a great remix cd. Fast paced songs help you dance the night away with very fashionable tunes. The only bad thing I can say is that 4 of the songs sound kind of the same with their beats and stuff. All in all tough its a great cd, and I would suggest picking it up. Submitted by a reviewer (michigan, usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
The Biggest selling remix album of all times. Michael Jackson is one of the greatest artists of all time. The album Blood on the Dance Floor is one of the best pieces of work by Michael Jackson. This album is not thought of to be a Bad or Thriller because it has several remixes in it. If you were a Michael Jackson fan in the 1980's when Bad or Thriller came out and you buy this album you will see how much Michael Jackson grew as a musician. This album is the biggest selling remix album of all time. Here is a brief description of the tracks.
Blood on the Dance Floor: The beat to this song is similar to Remember the Time from Dangerous.
Morphine is a song about the negative effects of drugs. It is a rock song. This song is only produced by the singer.
Superfly Sister This song is slightly slower than the the other songs on the album but the good thing about this song is that every line rhymes which makes it sound very beautiful.
Ghosts This is one of Michaels best songs ever. This song is excellent for dance.

Encouraging This little nugget of a recording proves that MJ stil has the talent where it counts. Who ese could write a song in 1989 (Blood on the Dance Floor), and then release it, as a #1 hit all over the world, in 1997?
Morphine is a self-produced masterpiece. Totally and utterly captivating, it reveals every facet of modern music capabilities. The remaining three Jackson tracks are interesting and funky numbers that have at least partially softened the pain of waiting for another album.
Being an MJ could not be easy. Having to wait 4-5 years for a new album puts all the but strongest of them off. Blood on the Dance Floor/History in the Mix was fuel to the fire, really. Those who criticise it really don't understand exactly why it was released.
Furthermore, those who criticise it might also note the following:
a) it has sold over 5 million copies, world-wide, making it the biggest selling remix album of all time...yet another record for the King of Pop.
b) it was awarded a brilliant 4-star review in Q Magazine. Enough said. Submitted by s_cooked (Mt. Nelson, TAS, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
