After a protracted legal battle over the rights to the Pink Floyd name, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright released 1987's A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON despite Roger Waters' protests. Retaining collaborators from Floyd's past (like producer Bob Ezrin), this Gilmour-led version of the band crafted a number of songs that were as cerebral and introspective as anything Floyd had done in the past. The first single, "Learning to Fly," served as the unofficial anthem for this latest chapter of Pink Floyd.
The Andy McKay/Gilmour-penned "One Slip" uses the requisite bells and whistles along with Tony Levin's impressive stick solo to guarantee it a prominent place in the band's canon. "The Dogs of War" and "On the Turning Away" are perfect commentaries on the conservative mindset shaping the '80s at the time. The former is an ominous screed composed at a time when the Cold War was still a reality, and the latter is a swipe against the self-absorption of the Me Decade.

| A Momentary Lapse of Reason Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Superb Listening This is one of Pink Floyd's best. Without Roger Waters, there was talk it would be unremarkable. No way. Gilmore and Mason have taken on new avenues - it's the most dramatic of their recordings. Sorrow is my all-time favorite followed by One Slip. If you are a Floyd fan, or even if you are not, you owe it to yourself to spend a half hour listening. It may change your perspective on music.

Why would you say this is great? This release is probably better then final cut and more, and some of the studio parts of umma gumma, but by in large you take 2 tracks away and its all crap turning away is boring, dogs of war is probably their worse song. The band would have been better to all go solo. I think i enjoyed nick mason's solo stuff more then this. If you are a collector and must own everything by Pink Floyd, buy it, if not start with just about anything else first, and buy this much later Submitted by Mitchell (Boulder CO) Was This Review Helpful? They new how to make a comeback!!! In 1983, Pink Floyd made a slight downfall due to Roger Waters fleeing from the band, but that didn't stop them!!! Guitarist David Gilmour took lead vocals and in 1987, they released this album with the sound of their old 60's/70's technical progressive-rock tuneage with the pop-rock scene of the late 80's... thus creating their best album!!! This album is genius from start to finish! All 10 tracks prove worthy!!! Every song deserves a "5"! There's the soft rock track "Learnig To Fly", the heavy-rock song "Dogs of War", the instrumental "Terminal Frost", the haunting-rock song "Sorrow" (which starts off with the talkbox machine) and the rock ballad "On The Turning Away"! The other 5 songs (Signs of Life, One Slip, Yet Another Movie, A New Machine-Part I/ Anew Machine-Part II) keep the album goin' strong!!! If you want to add a Pink Floyd album to your collection that you have yet to aquire, it's definetely this one!!! If you're not, GET IT ANYWAY!!! Submitted by Roxas (Fayettville, N.C.) Pretty Neat In the 1980s, keyboard noises and synths dominated pop radio. It's no wonder that mixing these sounds with the wail of David Gilmour's guitar gave the band a new lease on life. The instermental "Terminal Frost" is the best example of this, tucked neatly in between the chilling "A New Machine." Top song is "On The Turning Away" and the opening Guitar solo in "Sorrow" will imbed itself into your mind. Submitted by Gary (Montreal, Quebec) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$15.65 With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen, its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery ...

$10.49 Progressive rock band Caravan perform 17 emotional songs on this debut release, which includes "Ride" and "Magic Man."
For their first album, Caravan was surprisingly strong. While steeped in the same British psychedelia that informed bands such as Love Children, Pink Floyd, and Tomorrow, Caravan relates a freedom of spirit and mischief along the lines of Giles, Giles & Fripp or Gong. The band's roots can be traced to a British blue-eyed soul combo called the Wilde ...
