"You Sang To Me" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Marc Anthony has hopped on a shiny new pop music train with his self-titled English debut. While longtime fans won't find much of the salsa here that they've always known him for, there's still plenty of continuity in the fact that he's as fine a singer as ever and a sure romantic. Then again, Marc Anthony has always been about putting his own spin on his roots, so would-be critics should be warned--he won't be tied down.
The single "I Need to Know," with its pulsing salsa horns and piano, was a ubiquitous item on mainstream radio that clearly rode the fast waters of the Latin floodgate opened by Ricky Martin and others. "That's Okay" delves a bit deeper into the clave, while the plaintive "How Could I" combines the fluid fire of Spanish guitar with soft, slow-jam programming. A sweet pop nugget, "You Sang to Me" offers soaring waves of keyboard as Anthony makes his amorous declarations with breathy urgency.

Rolling Stone (11/11/99, pp.134-6) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...If the singer's constant state of apocalyptic romantic swoon is a little suspicious, the earnest lyrics and lilting arrangements render any doubts churlish....his vocals fill every corner of the rococo salsafied space..." Entertainment Weekly (10/1/99, p.74) - "...making an exceedingly smooth, beguiling transition. The converstaional phrasing and subtleness of Anthony's beats give his swirling ballads purpose and direction..." $12.15 MILLENNIUM was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year and for Best Pop Vocal Album. "I Want It That Way" was nominated for Record Of The Year and for Song Of The Year.
"Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
The Backstreet Boys self-titled 1997 debut album endeared the group to millions of teens and pre-teens with its radio-friendly blend of pop harmonies and danceable beats. MILLENNIUM finds the Boys in the unenviable position of following up the mind-blowing success of the first album. Less ambitious artists might wither under such pressure, but the Backstreet Boys beat the dreaded sophomore slump in style. In the tradition of the debut, the album is a combination of romantic ballads guaranteed to make your little sister sob, and syncopated, eminently danceable, upbeat tunes. Throughout, it's the rich combination of the members' voices that creates the distinctive sound the group's legion of fans has grown to love. Most notably though, there is an added maturity in both the songs and the performances. It seems, regardless of their fans' fervent wishes, that even Backstreet ...

$9.85 NO STRINGS ATTACHED was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. "Bye Bye Bye" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Record Of The Year and for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
It would be easy to dismiss N Sync off the cuff as the second band to reach popularity in a passing fad (the resurgence of photogenic boy groups). With the success of fellow Orlando-ites Backstreet Boys, one might assume N Sync would be forever overshadowed. However, when you sell 2.4 million copies of one record in its first week, you've pretty much earned the removal of the epithet, "passing fad." On NO STRINGS, N Sync pulls off feats of wonder through taking a formula and injecting it with stronger twists of talent than many of their competitors.
"Space Cowboy (Yippie-Ki-Yay)" features TLC's Left Eye and the combined force actually manages some funk Rick James could admire. The requisite ballads are present, and it's hard to ignore the sensuality of the lead single, "Bye Bye Bye." N Sync even benefits from a deft choice of cover tunes in the slinky version of the classic jam "Just Got Paid." N Sync are, and have always been, more than just second fiddle carpetbaggers, and NO STRINGS ATTACHED shows there's more than enough teenage ...

$11.89 "Be With You" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
"Bailamos" was nominated for the 2000 Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Pop Track Of The Year.
Enrique Iglesias does his illustrious family proud with the spirited, dance club-friendly ENRIQUE. Already having made a well-received resurfacing with "Bailamos" on the WILD WILD WEST soundtrack, this hunky singer has clearly grown up a bit and sounds better than ever on this fully bilingual production. And the Groove Brothers' contribution as producers makes for a winning combination of traditional organica, electronic pulsation, and pop allure.
Enrique lifts el ritmo on high on "Rhythm Divine," declaring the romantic power of the beat to the entrancing sounds of Spanish guitars and hazy electronic loops. "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" is another Iberian-tinged fantasy, only this one unfolds slowly as a rose with Whitney Houston bringing vocal honey to the duet. Part of what makes this Latino so appealing to non-Spanish speakers (besides his handsome mug) must be his groovy wrapping of memorable, simple Spanish phrases in English verses, along with the ...

$9.25 Walter Afanasieff won the 2000 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year for "I Count The Minutes." RICKY MARTIN was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Pop Album. "Livin' La Vida Loca" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Record Of The Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s), and Song Of The Year.
"Livin' La Vida Loca" won the 2000 Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Pop Track of the Year and was nominated for Hot Latin Track of the Year.
"Livin' La Vida Loca (Spanish version)" was nominated for the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Record Of The Year and "Bella (She's All I Ever Had)" was nominated for the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Perforance.
The statement may raise a few eyebrows, but this ex-Menudo hunk has come up a stunner of an album. A track like "Livin' La Vida Loca" makes a seamless amalgam of Pan-Americana in which surf guitars, electronica, and Mariachi horns rock together in fine form, and its Spanglish chorus feels as ordinary a pop hook as any other. Much of the album's appeal lies in the fact that it makes a booty-shakin' piece of art of North America's sometimes divisive bilingual reality. "The Cup Of Life," with its Carnaval-esque splendor, gathers a good deal of steam. "Shake Your Bon-Bon" and "Maria" do more of the same, while "She's All I Ever Had" and "Be Careful" take it ...

Fans old and new have much to celebrate about SUPERNATURAL, Carlos Santana's Arista Records debut. After several years of quiet in the studio, Santana is joined by his seasoned contemporary Eric Clapton and by such young luminaries as Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Rob Thomas, and Fher (of famed Mexi-rockers Mana). As an album that caps a rock career spanning more than three decades, SUPERNATURAL is a testament to the stylistic breadth of Carlos' musical ...

$9.85 "Genie In A Bottle" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
"What A Girl Wants" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Christina Aguilera rocketed to the top of the charts with the smash hit "Genie in a Bottle" from this self-titled debut and placed herself among a leading generation of young, multi-talented pop artists. Like fellow performers Britney Spears, J.C. and Justin of 'N Sync, and actress Keri Russell, who stars in the TV show Felicity, Aguilera is a graduate of the New Mickey Mouse Club television program.
Songs such as "What a Girl Wants" with its guitar-driven melody, and the soulful gospel strain of "So Emotional" show Christina Aguilera's polish. Some of the other tracks that stand out are the powerful "I Turn to You," which was written by Diane Warren; "Reflection," which was produced by Matthew ...
