The soundtrack to Julia Roberts vehicle RUNAWAY BRIDE is occasionally sappy, sometimes breezily entertaining, and not without moments of wit--in short, an apt reflection of the film itself. The Dixie Chicks are represented twice, once on a Supremes remake, and while we'll stipulate they're every bit as machine-made as the Spice Girls, they also have sass and can really sing. Requisite and welcome classics include U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and Hall and Oates's Motown-esque "Maneater." Martina McBride's "I Love You" is country meets '80s New Wave, proving once again that Carlene Carter was 20 years ahead of her time. There's also a requisite big production R&B ballad (Allures's "You're the Only One For Me"), the requisite stunningly trite Diane Warren song (here done by Eric Clapton, who should have know better), and (perhaps by way of apology) a vintage Miles Davis track ("It Never Entered My Mind.") But the big surprise is from, of all people, Billy Joel, who does an absolutely knockout job with Lloyd Price's funny, heretofore obscure '50s stomper "Where Were You on Our Wedding Day?".
"I Love You" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. "Ready To Run" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and for Best Country Song.

Runaway Bride-Music From The Movie Runaway Bride Soundtrack Songs Runaway Bride Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Great Collection, plus New Songs! This is a great mix of artists. They all seem to blend harmoniously together. The new Hall & Oates song, "And That's What Hurts" seems to stand out above the rest. WOW, WOW, WOW It's sooo easy for me to say. This is 5 stars. This is the best soundtrack of the year. This is the best selling soundtrack of all time. This is another soundtrack that I brought before I even saw the movie. Wow! It was phenomenal. You just can't argue with success. You just can't argue with the Dixie chicks, and Billy Joel, and Eric Clapton. Some of these songs are'nt new but still get you stompin your foot to it. Highlights for me were: I love you, From my head to my heart, Blue eyes blue, and I have to mention i think my personal fav of it all. Never saw blue like that, Shawn Colvin, which was just a beautiful, beautiful song. That's just to name a few of the ones that get me stompin my feet and singin along in the theatres like an idiot. Well... Soundtrack is better than the movie, to say the least. Anything in the line up including U2, Billy Joel and Miles David is all-star in my opinion. Submitted by Gen (Montreal) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

$13.25 Shake It! is horn man Richie Vitale's third album for the Swiss-based TCB label. Modernist sax player Ralph Lalama guests with a quintet that has international flavor sharing playing time with Vitale throughout. But Lalama's high powered, biting sax seems out of place on a CD that, for the most part, is devoted to the hushed side of jazz. In contrast, Vitale's horns never loses their cool, even on those semi-progressive cuts like "Hara." This nine-minute track features avant-garde-ish Lalama's chattering balanced by the pleasant discursive piano of Tardo Hammer. You can clearly hear that the lineage comes straight from the small bop groups of the 1950s and 1960s (those headed by Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard, and others). One gets the feeling that this tune was inserted to allow everyone to show their impressive technical prowess -- and that they do with ease and aplomb. But the tunes that attend to the melody and are lyrical will catch and hold the ear of most listeners, like dreamy rendering of "Blame It on My Youth." ...
