The simply titled LIVE offers a glimpse of AIC's moody, explosive live performances, captured between 1990 and 1996. Pre-dating the band's Columbia recordings is the country-punk track "Queen of the Rodeo," also found on the box set MUSIC BANK. This track is a notable inclusion, showing that Alice In Chains have a sense of humor behind the wall of musical gloom they've made for themselves.
Best displayed on "Would?" and "Angry Chair," the tasteful, all-too-often overlooked drumming of Sean Kinney shines brightly here. The included version of "Love Hate Love" has a Doors-like intensity, with Layne Staley's vocal dynamics piloting the track like a vessel. LIVE is short on stage banter and thankfully long in unpolished, raw, powerful live recordings of these seminal Seattle hard rock masters.
Recorded live between 1990 & 1996.

Live
$6.75 Long before the phrase, "Seattle scene" spoke of an impact that a new generation of musicians was having on rock music, Alice in Chains was struggling to be recognized in the shadow of bands that were more focused on image than craft. On FACELIFT, the band's major label debut, Alice in Chains proved that its fusion of blues, hard rock, and gritty imagery was a force to be reckoned with. While college radio stations ate up fare like "It Ain't Like That" and "We Die Young," the song "Man in a Box" became a banner track that pushed the band into the forefront of heavy rotation on MTV and the playlists of mainstream rock radio stations.
Vocalist Layne Staley's moody, dynamic vocals on "Love, Hate, Love" tell a chilling tale of a homicidal psychotic lamenting and musing over what he's done to his lover. On tracks such as "Sea of Sorrow" and "I Can't Remember," guitarist Jerry Cantrell shows equally impressive skill in Sabbath-styled riffing, blues licks, and Hendrix-influenced solos. Alice in Chains made a brash musical and lyrical statement that gave the stale era of thrash and hair metal a much-needed facelift.
Recorded at London Bridge Studios, Seattle, Washington and Capitol Recording Studios, Hollywood, California.
Alice In Chains: Layne Staley (vocals); Jerry Cantrell (guitar); Michael Starr (bass); Sean Kinney (drums).
| | Rainbow Rising CD (1976) Remastered
Live
$7.29 As the drums kick into the fierce opener "Tarot Woman," it's obvious that RISING delivers directly to your door. It is the band's second release, and a vast improvement over RICHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW. With a revamped lineup that sounds like it had been touring together for years, the album takes no prisoners. "Starstruck" is a classic groove reminiscent of guitarist Blackmore's ex-band Deep Purple. Blackmore replaced everyone from the first album's lineup except vocalist Ronnie Dio with Jimmy Bain (bass), Tony Carey (keyboards), and Cozy Powell (drums). Dio shows what he's got with a stellar performance on "Do You Close Your Eyes." "Stargazer" is the band's "Kashmir," an epic eight-minute track that could stand as its signature song. "A Light in the Black" features the skin bashing of the late, great Mr. Powell.
RISING is a must-have for any fan of Dio, Blackmore, or classic metal. Five musicians came together for a one-shot moment that won't be duplicated. The album is magic.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Rainbow: Ronnie James Dio (vocals); Ritchie Blackmore (guitar); Jimmy Bain (bass); Tony Carey (keyboards); Cozy Powell (drums).

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Live
$6.79 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that's topped only by Ron Wood's reappearance on a finale of the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday." VH1 PRESENTS THE CORRS LIVE IN DUBLIN is a fine mix of the band's greatest hits with a few well-chosen covers, which will doubtless reach out to new fans and longtime Corrs aficionados alike.
Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002.
The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion).
| | Melissa Etheridge Yes I Am CD (1993)
Live
$10.99 "Come To My Window" won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. "Come To My Window" and "I'm The Only One" were both nominated for Best Rock Song.
On her fourth album, Melissa Etheridge continues to write songs with a strong rock base and no sign of giving in to any kinds of trends. With the one-two punch of "I'm The Only One" and "Come To My Window," Etheridge manages to break through to bigger success on her own terms. YES I AM continues with tales of love within the lives of ordinary people while still managing to touch on a few different themes.
"All American Girl" mentions AIDS, while "Talking To My Angel" is about growing up alienated in a small town. An added bonus is the inclusion of "I Will Never Be The Same," a previously unreleased track which was one of a few Etheridge songs featured in the movie WELCOME HOME ROXIE CARMICHAEL.
Recorded at A&M Studios, Los Angeles, California.
Personnel: Melissa Etheridge (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); Waddy Wachtel (electric guitar); James Fearnley (accordion); Ian McLagen (organ); Scott Thurston (keyboards); Pino Palladino, Kevin McCormick, David Sutton (bass); Mauricio Fritz Lewak (drums, percussion).

| | Ani Difranco Carnegie Hall 4.6.02 CD (2006)
Live
$13.09 Recorded at the venerable New York City venue in the spring following the 9/11attacks, this live set by renegade folkie Ani DiFranco is palpably informed by those tragic events, as the singer/songwriter plainly indicates in the album's liner notes. With only her plaintive voice and acoustic guitar, DiFranco mesmerizes the audience with highly emotional songs, most notably an early version of the extended piece "Serpentine" and the poem "Self Evident," which explicitly, and unflinchingly, addresses the aforementioned day in 2001. Ideal for DiFranco diehards, the release also offers up a sterling example of her spare, percussive aesthetic for newcomers to her impressive catalogue.
Personnel: Ani DiFranco (vocals, guitar).
Recording information: Carnegie Hall, New York, New York (04/06/2002).
