$10.35 | | Texas Tornados 4 Aces CD (1996)
Lo Mejor De Gerardo Reyes
$9.39 "Little Bit Is Better Than Nada" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
Working within the confines of a style as singular as Tex-Mex, one of the greatest difficulties is finding a way to keep the music sounding fresh. Year after year, the Texas Tornados manage to do just that, serving up spicy slabs of south-of-the-border soul. Their music brings together rock and roll, R&B, country and traditional Mexican folk music (represented in the norteno accordion of Flaco Jimenez and the stirring, romantic voice of Freddy Fender). On 4 ACES, the mutant charm of this musical hybrid is exemplified by the mysterious, Del Shannon-esque title cut, the country-flavored torch ballad "In My Mind" and the 6/8 New Orleans stroll of "Tell Me." On those and other tunes, the Tornados prove themselves adept at working endlessly appealing variations on the style that is their foundation.
Recorded at Arlyn Recording Studio, Austin, Texas. Includes liner notes by Doug Sahm.
The West Side Horn Section: Rocky Morales, Cullen Offer (tenor saxophone); Louis Bustos (baritone ...

| | Bob Marley Rastaman Vibration: Deluxe Edition CDs (1976) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Lo Mejor De Gerardo Reyes
$19.59 RASTAMAN VIBRATION's burlap-esque jacket design couldn't be more appropriate packaging-this is a load of Natty knowledge delivered in simple, raw fashion. And there's a real beauty in the weave. This 1976 release finds Bob dropping ever more lyrics on human entanglements both local and global, his transcendent voice threading wisdom through it all.
"Positive Vibration" and "Roots, Rock, Reggae" are anthemic in character, inviting all listeners to quit their negativity and start a-dancin'. "Want More" is a promise of bad karma for back-biters everywhere, leadened fearfully by solemn bass lines and seamless production. Perhaps most compelling here is "War," a musical setting of a 1968 speech on global justice by the Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia. Bob's echoing fade with the words, "Good Over Evil" is positively haunting. While Peter Tosh's voice is absent, the classic exchange between Marley and the I-Threes (backing vocal divas, for those not in the know) shines all the more brightly in the spotlight. Funky organs are everywhere. ...

| | Malanie E Vol. 1-Le Jazz Aÿ La Franaise CD (2007)
Lo Mejor De Gerardo Reyes
$13.29 MELANIE - Vocalist Melanie Hartshorn-Walton began singing at an early age and remembers listening to many French artists such as Ginette Reno, Felix Leclerc and Joe Dassin. It is through song that she found her passion for music. Melanie got her first music lesson at the age of 6. This was the start of a wonderful journey. Melanie studied classical guitar, voice, piano, played French horn and electric bass. Some of her early jazz influences include Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Ed Bickert, and Chick Corea. At 17, she began her studies at McGill University where she later graduated with a B Mus. It was there that she met Keith, who would later become her music partner and partner in life. Melanie’s journey brought her back to Ontario where she received her B. Ed. Shortly after receiving her degree, Melanie taught music in a French immersion school “the best of two worlds, speaking my mother tongue all day, and teaching kids to love music.” E. – Keith Hartshorn-Walton is the band leader for this rhythm ensemble. That is where the E. comes from! Keith began his musical career in Winnipeg playing bass, tuba and piano. He received his B Mus from Mc Gill University and then his Master of Music from the University of Toronto. With music, he traveled all over the world, ...
