The artistic trajectory of singer George Lamond goes against the norm of what Latin pop was all about during the '90s. While glittering stars such as Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and Marc Anthony engineered successful crossovers to the mainstream Anglo world, Lamond did just the opposite with his 1999 release. Already a popular performer in the world of Anglo dance music, he decided to return to his roots and record salsa material in Spanish.
Fans of salsa romantica might wonder why it took Lamond so long to offer ENTREGA. The album's credits include plenty of familiar names, from the backup vocals of New York salsero Ray Sepulveda to the percussion of the incredibly gifted Marc Quinones, and the programming skills of producer Sergio George. Lamond has also been very careful with his choice of material. The disc's most effective track finds him salsifying the Juan Gabriel composition "Que Te Vas," complete with creamy synthesizers and languid timbales.
