Interesting recording
Hyatt and friends, in particular Ry Cooder, produce some very intersting tracks.
I enjoyed it the more I listened to it. Cooder as usual is a standout.

One of the best albums of the 80s
John Hiatt had a long list of serious personal problems in the early 80s. He conquered them all, found wedded bliss, and put it all down in song. The results were a "triology" of autobiographical albums (the other two being "Slow Turning" and "Stolen Moments"), starting with "Bring the Family," that stand as some of the greatest music recorded during the 80s. Although his songwriting has been universally regarded as great (based on the wide variety of people who've recorded his songs -- the original version of "Thing Called Love" is on this album), Hiatt shows off the range of his quirky yet enjoyable voice (listen, for instance, to his soulful rendition on "Have a Little Faith in Me"). This is a classic album, not only in John Hiatt's career, but in all of rock and roll.
