Digitally remastered by Bill Levenson (December 1999, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN is one of Cat Stevens's finest albums, and a gem in the crown of early 1970s singer/songwriterdom. Stevens manages to have his cake and eat it too, simultaneously achieving pop accessibility and artistic relevance. While inviting rhythms (buoyed by Stevens's dynamic acoustic strumming) and pop hooks abound, the feel is decidedly gentle and spare. Apart from the occasional string section, Stevens is accompanied only by a three-piece band as he sings his introspective lyrics with appreciable fervor.
While there are some relatively conventional love songs here ("Hard Headed Woman," "Wild World"), the most memorable moments come when Stevens's lyrics venture further afield. "Father and Son" is a poignant but realistic and unsentimental portrait of the generation gap, capable of reducing any given dad or junior to tears. "On the Road to Find Out" and "But I Might Die Tonight" reflect Stevens's existential dilemmas, and the resulting spiritual quest that would later lead him to embrace the Islamic faith. The graceful beauty of arrangements, performances, and songs makes TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN a folk-rock classic.

An artist experiencing upheavals? So I've read. But who wasn't- at that time? Music is inspired by many things. Music is eight little notes that can be divided, subdivided, grouped, isolated, etc. and the listener decides if he/she likes it. When I recall the past, Cat Setvens stands out as a gr8 composer. I enjoy visiting the past but I don't live there. Submitted by robertponce (Los Angeles,CA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

An 8-Track Must Replace Cat was off the charts with this album. Ever so meaningful, ever so peaceful. So sad to see his albums burn on NY streets during troubled times. Where is he now? Submitted by joe_g_drinksnj (Fairfield, nj) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
hold on to the shore! this is perhaps the singular most important album in my life. I listened to it first as a young child at my uncles house at arund the time it came out. the melodies and lyrics went straight to my heart and i never forgot them. they are still as meaningful and as emotionally available as ever to the listener. no one except dylan can teach you as much.
my children will grow up with this music and im sure they will feel the same way later. I only wish i could have seen him live. Submitted by aaron b (hong kong) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Tea For The Tillerman songs
$14.95 Crosby, Still, and Nash topped their enormously popular self-titled 1969 debut by adding Neil Young to their ranks and expanding their stylistic and sonic range. The result, released in 1970, was an artistic and commercial success, representing the talents of the four primary players to excellent effect. More ambitious and incisive than its CSN predecessor, DEJA VU brings together folk, psychedelia, jazz, African, and Middle Eastern flavors, Tin Pan Alley, and hard rock in a manner that captures the tenor of the era's counterculture without sounding dated.
The group's distinctively lush harmonies are spread across the album, notably on the ...

Tina Arena's slow-developing international career must be a source of frustration to Sony Music. Given the pop singer/songwriter's success in her native Australia, where In Deep, her second Epic album, became a number one hit upon its release in August 1997, the obvious plan is to turn her into a down-under Celine Dion. In that pursuit, this American reconfiguration has added "If I Was a River," written by Diane Warren (who wrote Dion's "Because You Loved Me") and produced by Walter Afanasieff, who also produces Dion and Mariah Carey, as well as a duet with Marc Anthony on "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving ...
