The Cure released this concert recording immediately after 1992's live set PARIS. While PARIS showcased the Cure's older, moodier material, SHOW catches the band at their bright and catchy best. SHOW also serves as a showcase for songs off of the then current WISH album, featuring no less than seven(!) cuts from the disc. Fortunately the WISH material holds up well in concert. While supporting a new record sometimes makes bands lethargic, this concert highlights the Cure at their most interested, especially on the bouncy "Doing the Unstuck" and "Friday I'm in Love," both of which come across with more raw energy than their studio versions.
The energy also extends to zippy versions of "Just Like Heaven" and "Inbetween Days," dispelling long time rumors that the two were the same song. While "Pictures of You" brings the concert back to earth, "Never Enough" bounces the ball back to center court where it remains in play through to the (appropriately enough) finale, "End". An excellent record both as a promo for WISH and as a showcase for some for some of the band's greatest "hits".
Recorded live at The Palace, Auburn Hills, Detroit, Michigan.
The Cure: Robert Smith (vocals, guitar); Perry Bamonte, Porl Thompson (guitars, keyboards); Simon Gallup (bass); Boris Williams (drums).
Rolling Stone (10/14/93, p.114) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...There are no unbearable guitar solos or concert versions that completely distort the songs, just the big, echoing sound that has filled many lonesome rooms..." Entertainment Weekly (9/24/93, p.94) - "...just like a dream...[this] live album plows through some of Robert Smith's dark and playful fantasies ...almost a greatest hits package..." Musician (1/94, p.92) - "...The Cure play pop stars, dispatching their alterna-hits with a fair amount of style..." NME (Magazine) (9/18/93, p.34) - (7) - Very Good - "...SHOW possesses an abundance of highs....the Cure's court is once again in session..." Show Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) BEST Cure Concert EVER Of all the concerts I've seen and heard. This is the one you must have!Robert Smith really brings out the mystical sound of his guitar as you've never heard it. bliss This album was the first I ever heard of the Cure, and it has been in constant rotation ever since. There is something about Robert Smith's captivating, echoing voice, the lush guitar harmonies, and that huge aural live sound that just makes you want to laugh and sing along. If you think you can handle their darker, moodier side, pick up PARIS, the live album that came before it. Submitted by a reviewer (Harwinton, CT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A wonderful evening with the Cure SHOW is one real good live album from the WISH area tour(1992). Most of all, it's an official release (so you won't have to pay a fortune to get a fine recording)!!! The emotions of every song are purely delievered, the general mood of the show is fantastic, and the sound is great too ! A great way to familiarized yourself with the british band, for the few who haven't hear anything from them yet (is it possible ?). Grab it and enjoy The Cure. $9.09 Who says The Cure don't have a sense of humor? While The Cure had often struggled with the dichotomy between dancing and moping in an attempt to prove that the two were not incompatible, critics simply smiled at the band's audacity. What did a band of pasty-faced art students from England know about bumping on the dance floor anyway? As it turns out, the band knew quite a bit. While The Cure had not made a pure "dance" record since THE WALK, their albums usually contained a track or two to keep the ol' feet a-tapping.
MIXED UP collects, extends and deconstructs several of the Cure's bouncier tracks (and a few surprises) from the latter half of their career. Most of the re-mixes aren't that surprising, "Close to Me" is extended much as one would expect and "The Walk (Everything Mix)" lives up to its name. On the other hand the unlikely "Pictures ...

| | Depeche Mode 101 CDs (1989)
Show
$11.39 Perhaps the first indication that Depeche Mode's US following had expanded from a small but vociferous cult was the release of documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker's film DEPECHE MODE 101, which showcased a sold-out stadium concert in southern California. This two-disc set is the soundtrack to that film.
If the idea of a concert film of a synth-pop band whose live performances are based on pre-recorded tapes and sequencers seems a bit odd, this may not be for you, but Depeche Mode fans often rank this one of their favorite releases. ...

| | Cure Join The Dots: B-Sides & Rarities 1978-2001 (The Fiction Years) CDs (2004) Remastered
Show
$37.45 Recorded between 1978 & 2001. Includes liner notes by Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, and Johnny Black.
A remarkable four-disc set of B-sides and rarities, JOIN THE DOTS serves as a sort of alternate history for the Cure, one of the world's most beloved post-punk/alt-rock bands. Painstakingly compiled by Cure frontman (and the group's only constant member) Robert Smith, DOTS provides dozens of glimpses into the literal flip-side of their singles by collecting many long-lost tracks, including the classic songs previously featured only on the cassette version of STARING AT THE SEA: THE SINGLES.
Disc one begins in the late 1970s and consists of early tracks that show the Cure in a wildly adventurous mode--tearing into the punky "Pillbox Tales," drifting through the gloomy "Descent," and bouncing along to the oddly danceable "Throw Your Foot." By disc two, Smith and the lads have become college-rock heroes, and despite their goth looks, they move steadily ...

$15.89 At the close of the 20th Century, it became apparent that Billy Joel was one of the premier pop craftsmen of the post-Beatles era. This generous two-disc compilation neatly makes a case for Joel's reign at the top of the musical heap by chronicling nearly 20 years of hits. Joel's melodic gift and lyrical acumen are amply displayed as THE ESSENTIAL BILLY JOEL moves from the introspective "Piano Man" to the sardonic, self-parodic "The Entertainer," from the Springsteen-like rocker "Only the Good Die Young" to the McCartneyesque "Dont Ask Me Why." As Joel's career progressed, his work became increasingly occupied with socio-political issues, as evidenced by disc two's "We Didn't Start the Fire" and "The Downeaster 'Alexa.'" By the ...

$13.15 Born in Santa Clara, California, the son of an accomplished violinist and the grandson of a LA stage musician, Dave began his music training at the age of 9. He learned to play the violin and soon he was performing in the school orchestra. He had just turned 14 when “The British Invasion" in music began. Television & radio airwaves were flooded with a new sound. Mop-head, long-haired guys in suits with electric guitars sang songs with simple, but thought provoking lyrics that called out to new generation of young seekers. Dave Pfau was one of them. He traded his Mom’s violin for an electric guitar. About the time that ‘The Beatles’ had released “Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,” Dave began a search for a deeper, and more meaningful life. Caught-up in the 60’s culture, he commented, “I began listening to music under the influence of mind altering drugs.” Even though this took music to a deeper and expanded experience, he soon realized that this was not the path he wanted to continue on. “I knew I was going on a downhill path with a real dead end. I was searching for something more meaningful in life. I just did not know what it was.” In 1968, with the war in Vietnam raging, he decided to join the U.S. Coast Guard. After returning from a specialty school in New York, he met up with his long time friend & classical pianist, Ken Teel. He commented, “I could see that Ken was different from the last time that I had seen him. Something had really happened to him and I wanted to know what it was.” What Ken shared with him would dramatically change his music and his life. In the Summer of 1969, Dave Pfau became a Christian. “I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord & Savior." This relationship took Dave and music in general, to an intense Spiritual level, and his music & songwriting to higher call. In 1972, after being discharged from the service, he joined “The Revisions,” a Southern Gospel Group that ministered in churches, in concert, and to those in jail & juvenile hall. He said of those times, “I saw first hand how music could open up hearts and touch people with the Good News of God's Love.” After 3 years of working during the week and traveling & ministering on the weekends, Dave felt it was time to take a break and reflect on a calling he was feeling deep within his own heart. It was in that transition time that Dave began writing songs and music based on his own life experiences, his conversion and continuing relationship with God. 1980 saw the release of Dave’s first album, “Loving Reflection.” A move to Mendocino County, California, brought the opportunity to join the “Majesty Music Ministries” team, a non-profit organization that produced a weekly radio program and sponsored local concerts & events. “Producing a radio program in the early days of Contemporary Christian Music gave me access to most of the music and artists of that time. “I guess the one person who's music meant the most to me at that time was Keith Green. I got to see him at “Jesus West Coast” in Santa Rosa. That was just about a week before the fatal plane crash that killed him, his pilot, a missionary & four children, including two of his own. The news of the tragedy broke all of our hearts. We just had to do a radio program totally dedicated to Keith, his life and his music." The program was broadcast locally on KIAH FM 103 and was played at his “The Last Days Ministries” Outreach in Waco, Texas. In the summer of 1997, Dave & Bobbe, his wife of 38 years, moved to Grass Valley, ...
