The Cure released this concert recording immediately after 1992's live set PARIS. While PARIS showcased the Cure's older, moodier material, SHOW catches the band at their bright and catchy best. SHOW also serves as a showcase for songs off of ... Full Descriptionthe then current WISH album, featuring no less than seven(!) cuts from the disc. Fortunately the WISH material holds up well in concert. While supporting a new record sometimes makes bands lethargic, this concert highlights the Cure at their most interested, especially on the bouncy "Doing the Unstuck" and "Friday I'm in Love," both of which come across with more raw energy than their studio versions.
The energy also extends to zippy versions of "Just Like Heaven" and "Inbetween Days," dispelling long time rumors that the two were the same song. While "Pictures of You" brings the concert back to earth, "Never Enough" bounces the ball back to center court where it remains in play through to the (appropriately enough) finale, "End". An excellent record both as a promo for WISH and as a showcase for some for some of the band's greatest "hits".
Recorded live at The Palace, Auburn Hills, Detroit, Michigan.
The Cure: Robert Smith (vocals, guitar); Perry Bamonte, Porl Thompson (guitars, keyboards); Simon Gallup (bass); Boris Williams (drums).
Rolling Stone (10/14/93, p.114) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...There are no unbearable guitar solos or concert versions that completely distort the songs, just the big, echoing sound that has filled many lonesome rooms..." Entertainment Weekly (9/24/93, p.94) - "...just like a dream...[this] live album plows through some of Robert Smith's dark and playful fantasiesalmost a greatest hits package..." Musician (1/94, p.92) - "...The Cure play pop stars, dispatching their alterna-hits with a fair amount of style..." NME (Magazine) (9/18/93, p.34) - (7) - Very Good - "...SHOW possesses an abundance of highs....the Cure's court is once again in session..." $14.99 Inaugurating the shadowy gloom/blissful pop combination that became the Cure's trademark, BOYS DON'T CRY contains healthy portions of both, along with a dose of punk-fueled angst befitting the times in which it was recorded. Robert Smith reveals himself as an alarmingly developed songwriter--though he was still in his late teens when these songs were written, his compositional abilities are as impressive as the potential they reveal.
The album produced a string of hits, several of which were to remain signature tunes for the group throughout their lengthy tenure in pop's upper strata. The title track, as touchingly naive and vulnerable a love song as one could ask for, is the album's best-known song. "Killing An Arab," based on a famous passage from "The Stranger," attracted controversy while it displayed Smith's burgeoning taste in exotic compositional ...

Show CD music
$15.39 Undoubtedly more commercial than previous albums, Wish nevertheless represented the Cure doing what they do best, oblivious to prevailing musical trends. Once again, Robert Smith tore out his innards and offered them to the listener (the wrenching and chilling 'Apart'), spitting bile in 'Cut' and effectively evoking the feeling of wretched, helpless drunkenness in 'Open'. Amid the darkness, there is still time for a couple of classic pop songs, particularly the catchy 'Friday I'm In Love', and the customary obsessive love odes. Although ...

Show music CDs
$11.39 PARIS is the third of a trilogy of recent live recordings by the Cure. Half of the artists' royalties will go to the International Red Cross Fund.
While popular wisdom might demand that a band release some token live concert recordings over the course of a career, who but the Cure would decide to release not one, but two concert recordings within the space of a single year? There is a method to Robert Smith's madness, however, and the two albums are different enough to stand on their own and satisfy fans who love the Cure for disparate reasons.
PARIS, the first of the two to be released in America, showcases the darker moodier side of the Cure, favoring extended explorations of some of the Cure's most difficult material. With three tracks from SEVENTEEN SECONDS ("At Night", "In Your House", "Play For Today") and two from PORNOGRAPHY ("The Figurehead", "One Hundred Years") and the presence of only two semi-"hits" ("Charlotte Sometimes", "Love Song"), PARIS is clearly a treat for the long-time fan. However newcomers should also be welcome to dive into the deep end as well. The Cure has always been more accessible than naysayers would admit and the bouncy ...

Show songs
$16.05 STANDING ON THE BEACH compiled The Cure's singles from 1979 to 1986, cuts from Cure classics such as BOYS DON'T CRY, PORNOGRAPHY, and HEAD ON THE DOOR. The singles period between 1987 to 1997, chronicled on GALORE, runs from KISS ME, KISS ME, KISS ME up to and including WILD MOOD SWINGS. Unlike STANDING ON THE BEACH, GALORE contains a previously unreleased single, "Wrong Number," a song that mixes standard Cure-isms with electronica. No great stretch, seeing as how Robert Smith and company produced their most popular songs by blending Eighties dance club music and The Cure's unique blend of mysterious lyricism and sexual anxiety. GALORE marks a period in the band's history that saw them move away from gloom-rock in favor of ...

$15.65 At the close of the 20th Century, it became apparent that Billy Joel was one of the premier pop craftsmen of the post-Beatles era. This generous two-disc compilation neatly makes a case for Joel's reign at the top of the musical heap by chronicling nearly 20 years of hits. Joel's melodic gift and lyrical acumen are amply displayed as THE ESSENTIAL BILLY JOEL moves from the introspective "Piano Man" to the sardonic, self-parodic "The Entertainer," from the Springsteen-like rocker "Only the Good Die Young" to the McCartneyesque "Dont Ask Me Why." As Joel's career progressed, his work became increasingly occupied with socio-political issues, as evidenced by disc two's "We Didn't Start the Fire" and "The Downeaster 'Alexa.'" By the end of the '90s, Joel decided to abandon pop in favor of classically inspired instrumental music, and this chronological collection fittingly ends with some of the first fruits of that notion, indicating that even after so many years in the public eye, Joel still had plenty to say, whether he used words or not.

Show Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) BEST Cure Concert EVER Of all the concerts I've seen and heard. This is the one you must have!Robert Smith really brings out the mystical sound of his guitar as you've never heard it. bliss This album was the first I ever heard of the Cure, and it has been in constant rotation ever since. There is something about Robert Smith's captivating, echoing voice, the lush guitar harmonies, and that huge aural live sound that just makes you want to laugh and sing along. If you think you can handle their darker, moodier side, pick up PARIS, the live album that came before it. Submitted by a reviewer (Harwinton, CT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A wonderful evening with the Cure SHOW is one real good live album from the WISH area tour(1992). Most of all, it's an official release (so you won't have to pay a fortune to get a fine recording)!!! The emotions of every song are purely delievered, the general mood of the show is fantastic, and the sound is great too ! A great way to familiarized yourself with the british band, for the few who haven't hear anything from them yet (is it possible ?). Grab it and enjoy The Cure.
