| | Simply Red Greatest Hits CD Simply Red Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
This career-spanning set includes Simply Red's two No. 1 hits, "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "Holding Back The Years," along with lesser-known selections from the band's admirable catalog of soulful pop music.
Simply Red's songs are well-executed and emotive, with structures softly resting upon a foundation of jazz, reggae and soul. Mick Hucknell's rich, spirited vocals, reminiscent of Otis Redding, hold the pieces together. Over the years, Simply Red has had instrumental assistance from the likes of reggae tricksters Sly & Robbie and funkmeister Bootsy Collins. Such collaborations have led to easygoing songs held up by sharp musicianship. GREATEST HITS provides example after example of classic pop form.

Best of Simply Red: Holding Back the Years 1985-1997 contains all of Simply Red's biggest British and American hits, including "Holding Back the Years," "If You Don't Know Me By Now," and "Something Got Me Started." In addition to the well-known singles, there are two new tracks added to the collection, including "Angel," a duet with the Fugees. Simply Red always worked better on singles than albums, making this single-disc compilation an excellent introduction. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Greatest Hits music CDs
$9.75 Despite its codification into our collective pop culture consciousness, Isaac Hayes' "Theme From Shaft" is a highly original composition. It's been remade by Hayes himself for the remade Shaft film, and appropriately kicks off this collection of tunes from the movie by some of R&B's New Jacks.
A diverse selection of artists encompass the collection, from lascivious soul stirrer R. Kelly to the rugged Latin hip-hop of Fulanito, along with many other noteworthy ...

$11.39 Established in January of ’05, it started in October ’04 with Jim and Lucas writing songs and auditioning drummers and lead guitarists for about 4 months. In January, we got our rehearsal studio in downtown Portland and continued to audition players but to no end seeing how we could not find the right players that were on the same page and as versatile and open minded musically as we were, not worried about what was hot at the time, just wanting to do what we wanted, not what someone thought we should be doing. Then we brought in Scitty and Tommy to complete Almost Sober. Scitty and Lucas played in Deep and Elevated Nature in the past and Jim and Tommy played together in various projects through out the years and always had a connection personally and musically, so it was an instant fit when Tommy and Scitty showed the interest and love for the music Jim and Lucas had already started. After a few months of rehearsal and added writing, we had our first show together May 6th at The Ash Street Saloon. Soon after, we spent the entire summer playing at parties, Saturday Market, and The Roseland. Then we hit the studio to record our debut CD, Almost Sober. With spring coming on, we had our CD release party ...
| | Susan Christie Paint A Lady CD (1970)
Greatest Hits CD music
$13.19 The material on this album, heard by few until it was issued on CD in the early 21st century, might have been built up as a little weirder than it is by some of the collectors who've raved about it. While it's not the most uplifting stuff in the world, much of it is haunting but not all that out-there pop-folk. Susan Christie's fairly strong, strident vocals and moody melodies, occasionally embellished by strings, aren't the most uncommercial mixture that could have been concocted, though apparently they were too uncommercial to find release when they were originally recorded. What is unusual -- and what sets it most apart from some singers she might bear the vaguest of resemblance to at times, like Melanie, Tim Buckley, Sandy Denny, and Bobbie Gentry -- are the unexpectedly forceful distorted guitars, near-hard rock organ, and angular rhythms and mild dissonance used in some of the arrangements. In addition, for an eight-song, half-hour album, it's certainly unpredictable in the wide territory it covers -- "No One Can Hear ...
