This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.

Although THE FIRST OF THE MICROBE HUNTERS was described by the band and promoted by Elektra Records as an EP, this seven-track release runs over 40 minutes, as long or longer than many band's full-length efforts. This proves the effortlessness with which Stereolab creates their trademark blend of hypnotic Latin and German rhythms, urgent post-punk guitar attack, and chilly synth drones, topped with Laetitia Sadier's alluring bilingual croon and heady lyrics. THE FIRST OF THE MICROBE HUNTERS is centered on a pair of epic tunes, "Outer Bongolia" and "I Feel the Air (Of Another Planet)," that run nearly 20 minutes between them. But the remaining five tracks are equally compelling, most notably the floaty "Intervals." Much like 1993's essential THE GROOP PLAYED SPACE AGE BATCHELOR (sic) PAD MUSIC, this EP is as enjoyable as any of Stereolab's longer albums.

Stereolab: Letitia Sadler, Tim Gane, Mary Harsen, Andy Ramsey, Morgane Lhote, Simon Johns.

Additional personnel: Sean O'Hagen.

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Q (7/00, p.124) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Sees their elevated brand of tuneful bleeps, bloodless harmonizing and motorik beats sculpted into the most luxuriant shapes yet....[an] aura of doleful sophistication pervades..."
CMJ (5/22/00, p.28) - "...Simple, yet exotic fusion of cool Krautrock, suave French guitar-pop and luxurious lounge that made the group's mid-'90s offerings such cult classics..."
Melody Maker (6/13/00, p.82) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Indecipherable, Marxist-Situationist lyrics, funkily motorik grooves, samba-friendly shakers, sweetly cooing vocal harmonies, the hum and gurgle of museum-bound synths, the strum and glide of a thousand gently stroked guitars..."
Mojo (Publisher) (7/00, p.118) - "...The embodiment of [their] happy insularity: strait-laced pop music is shown the door by Krautesque repetition, but the 'Lab's fondness for Latin exotica pushes the music well clear of egghead tedium..."
NME (Magazine) (6/3/00, p.39) - 7 out of 10 - "...Palatable...it eases up on the rigorous deconstructivist tendencies...taking a cue from the carefree effervescence typical of recent live encounters....Always different, always the same..."

I've listened to many of Stereolab's albums, and this band never seems to disappoint. This album is no exception and is every bit as exquisite as their other releases.

When Jon Anderson rejoined Yes after DRAMA, he was inserting himself into an unusual situation. Keyboardist Geoff Downes and longtime guitarist Steve Howe had left to form Asia with prog rock vets John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music etc.) and Carl Palmer (ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White brought original Yes keysman Tony Kaye back and recruited vibrant young Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Trevor Rabin. The quartet had already begun writing and recording, but Anderson was able to insert himself into the proceedings with such ease that the new combination sounds completely natural on 90125. Mostly, the band was concerned with trimming the musical fat to keep pace with the onslaught ...

Buoyed by the popularity of the hit contemporary pop ballad "Home," singer Michael Bublé's 2005 album, IT'S TIME, clearly positioned the vocalist as the preeminent neo-crooner of his generation. Easily the singer's most stylistically wide-ranging album so far, 2009's CRAZY LOVE is also one of his brightest, poppiest, and most fun. Bublé kicks things off with the theatrical, epic ballad "Cry Me a River" and proceeds to milk the tune with burnished breath, eking out the drama line by line. It's over the top for sure, but Bublé takes you to the edge of the cliff, prepares to jump, and then gives you a knowing wink that says, not quite yet -- there's more fun to be had. And what fun it is with Bublé swinging through "All of Me," and killin' Van Morrison's classic "Crazy Love" with a light and yearning touch. And just as "Home" worked to showcase Bublé's own writing abilities, here we get the sunshine pop of "Haven't Met You Yet" -- a skippy, jaunty little song that brings to mind a mix of the Carpenters and Chicago. Throw in a rollicking and soulful duet with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings on "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)," and a fabulously old-school close-harmony version of "Stardust" ...

Bradford Cox was a virtual song machine during the time between Deerhunter's CRYPTOGRAMS and the Atlas Sound's LOGOS, churning out officially released material as well as plenty of songs only available on his blog. Over that span of time, he became a finer and more fluid songwriter, and his music emerged from the experimental fog of his earlier work just enough to give listeners tantalizing glimpses of almost ridiculously catchy songs. LOGOS keeps this push-pull between challenging and charming, yet Cox's second solo album still feels more experimental than Deerhunter, if only because he seems completely unfettered by any kind of rules or concerns about consistency. These songs barely sound like each other, yet they all sound like Cox. LOGOS comes into focus slowly with its first three songs. "The Light That Failed"'s hazy atmospheres slip effortlessly into "An Orchid"'s spectral recall of MICROCASTLE's psych-pop, but it's "Walkabout," Cox's irresistibly sunny collaboration with Animal Collective and Panda Bear's Noah Lennox, that announces that the album has truly arrived--it's as sudden, and satisfying, as tuning in a perfect pop song from radio static. From there, ...

Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' first half is especially smooth, opening with the beautifully soft Neapolitan ballad "Ninna ...
