The 1967 debut album by New York quartet Vanilla Fudge may not have remained in the pantheon of all-time greatest '60s rock albums, but it's of huge historical importance. With its unprecedented combination of psychedelia (itself still a new ... Full Descriptioncommodity), hard rock, soul, and classical motifs, it prefigured everything from heavy metal to prog rock. The band's modus operandi was to take pop, rock, and R&B hits of the era and extend them to the breaking point, adding raga-like guitar lines, overdriven Hammond organ, screaming feedback, gargantuan distorted riffs, mountainous drumbeats, and impassioned vocals. Most often the original tempo of the song was slowed down drastically for maximum dramatic effect. In this manner, everything from Motown hit "You Keep Me Hangin' On" to the Zombies' "She's Not There" becomes a haunting, pathos-filled set piece alternately haunting and driving. Somewhere in England, the young men who would become known as Yes, Deep Purple, and numerous other bands, were listening with rapt attention.

Vanilla Fudge album
$19.19 Starting with the majestically wafting "White Bird," an early high this band unfortunately never quite matched again, LaFlamme, Santos and company create an appealingly drifting, almost narcotic bliss. Of the other excellent tracks, the sultry "Wasted Union Blues" is a particular highlight.
For years, this album was best known for its beautiful cover, a Maxfield Parrish-style pastiche which regularly shows up in collections of the best album covers of all time. The lilting, quiet folk-rock of this San Francisco band, led by David LaFlamme's swirling violin and Patti Santos' soaring vocals, was out of favor for quite some time, but latter-day fans of Belle and Sebastian, Nick Drake, and ...

Vanilla Fudge CD music
$6.69 Recorded in 1971, shortly before guitarist Peter Frampton left the band, ROCKIN' presents Humble Pie live at New York City's Fillmore East. The British blues-rock group charges through a sweaty, high-octane set (originally released as a double LP) that includes the blistering stompers "Four Day Creep," "Stone Cold Fever," and "I Don't Need No Doctor." Although the entire ensemble is in top form on this seven-song disc, the record is a showcase for the astoundingly powerful vocals of former Small Faces frontman Steve Marriott (who, in his hard-rock mode, prefigures AC/DC's Bon Scott) and the heavy-blues riffage of Frampton (surprisingly enough, the guy could wield ...

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Vanilla Fudge songs
$11.59 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that's topped only by Ron Wood's reappearance on a finale of the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday." VH1 PRESENTS THE CORRS LIVE IN DUBLIN is a fine mix of the band's greatest hits with a few well-chosen covers, which will doubtless reach out to new fans and longtime Corrs aficionados ...
| | Wishbone Ash Argus CD (1972) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Expanded Edition
Vanilla Fudge album
$7.55 On its third album, Wishbone Ash doesn't mess with its formula--as before, this long running British rock institution purveys a mix of blues, folk, and Yes- style riffs mated to endearingly cosmic lyrics. The songs here, however, are considerably more focused and well crafted than on the band's previous efforts, and the harmony singing is delightful.
As always, the band's basis is the tag team guitars of Andy Powell and Ted Turner. Fans of this duo's mix of Yardbirds- and Allman Brothers- style harmony licks and dueling solos will find much to admire here, particularly "The King Will Come" and "Time Was," a folk-ish epic in several contrasting sections. All in all, ARGUS is one of the best guitar albums of the early '70s.
Includes liner notes by Leon Tsilis.

| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Vanilla Fudge CD music
$9.25 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures album these two recorded at the Fillmore West know how brilliant they could be on stage, and here's another gem, recorded at the Fillmore East this time and featuring 'One Way Out,' 'It's My Own Fault' (with Bloomfield trading licks with Johnny Winter...Johnny was signed to Columbia after this gig!). Newly remastered & now with 4 bonus tracks, 'Albert's Shuffle' (2002 Remix w/o Horns), 'Season of the Witch.' (2002 Remix w/o Horns), 'Blues For Nothing' (Studio Outtake) ...

Vanilla Fudge Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) Classic Rock at its best!!! "You keep me hanging on" is worth the price of the whole cd. Classic late 60´s rock that grooves like mad. The rest of the album is almost as great. A must buy if you´re into heavy rock....... Submitted by sea (Stockholm/Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
