Ever since Genesis was reduced down to the trio of Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford, the former prog-rock giants had made a concerted effort to streamline their music into more bite-sized pop portions. GENESIS was an important bridge ... Full Descriptionto this goal. Coupled with frontman/drummer Collins' burgeoning solo career and the emergence of MTV, the band soon gained a higher profile in the eyes of the record buying public. Genesis' prosperity, along with the solo success of individual members (particularly Collins) meant that GENESIS became part of a decade-long cycle in which band album releases alternated with those by Phil Collins.
Driven by Banks' simple keyboard lines, "That's All" became the album's first hit and first of three videos shot for MTV. The other two, the ominous "Mama" and the humorous "Illegal Alien" both helped bolster the band's pop visibility. Although the Jan Hammer-flavored "Just a Job to Do" wasn't made into a video, this hard-driving song was later incorporated into an episode of the television program Miami Vice. Despite the obvious stylistic changes, art-rock elements still popped up particularly in "Home By the Sea" and the sequel, "Second Home By the Sea."
Recorded at The Farm, Surrey, England in 1983.
Genesis: Mike Rutherford (vocals, guitar, bass); Tony Banks (vocals, keyboards); Phil Collins (vocals, drums, percussion).
Mojo (Publisher) (3/01, p.82) - "...Entirely unrecognizable from Gabriel-era Genesis, the lead single 'Mama' is based around the bleakly distorted drum machine....Further chart success comes courtesy of 'That's All' and 'Illegal Alien'..." Record Collector (magazine) (pp.83-84) - "4 stars out of 5 -- "1983's eponymous effort boasts classic pop-rock such as the opening 'Mama' and 'Just A Job To Do'..." "Every song on this album is great. You'll love it! Oh btw, please ignore the user from CA... This person seems to have nothing else better to do in life, but to sit around and type negative, pointless reviews, using random, multiple names to lower the rating of this album. I've seen this same person do the same thing to other Genesis albums, when Phil Collins was the frontman. It seems to me that this certain person is jealous and pissed off, because Phil Collins made Genesis a better and more successful band." Submitted by **** the poser from CA! Best Genesis album ever! Every song on this album is great. You'll love it!

I agree with Eric from Milwaukee, WI "....than that stuff in the 70s with Peter Gabriel. Thank you Phil, Mike, & Tony for finally making music that makes sense."
It's just that simple. :) Submitted by James Henderson (Dover, DE, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 12 of 15 found this helpful.
Mama Silver Rainbow When I listen to this album I re-live the concert. They way these three guys perform is amazing, along with the talents of Daryl Steurmer, Chester Thomson. The drum duet with Phil and Chester was just amazing. I enjoyed this album very much. Eight out of the nine songs, Illegal Alien just didn't do it for me. You Know..... I think that it is funny that people don't consider Genesis a "real band" once Peter Gabriel left, and that their music is crap. Hello!!! It's not the band's fault that Peter Gabriel has an over-blown ego! They did the best with what they had, and espically the fact that they became a trio, how can you complain. What kind of music have you ever written?! Yeah, that's right, you got no room to talk until you become a musician-LIKE ME!!! I have been in the music world for 35 years, and I fail to see any fault with their works.....so maybe ya'll shouldn't judge them too harshly....when you can write a good song, then I'll respect your opinion, but until then, button your lips! Genesis album
$23.79 HISTORY BOOK 1 contains one disc of Jackson's greatest hits and one disc of all-new songs. It features a 52-page booklet with liner notes by Janet Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Elizabeth Taylor, as well as many never-before-seen photographs.
HISTORY BOOK 1 was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year. "You Are Not Alone" was nominated for Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and the Michael Jackson-Janet Jackson duet "Scream" was nominated for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
Michael Jackson's monumental collection HISTORY BOOK 1 seeks to make two points. The first disc--chock full of hits spanning Jackson's Epic Records solo career--tries to establish how the so-called King of Pop earned that nickname in the first place; the second disc, featuring fifteen new, star-studded tracks, makes a case for him holding onto that royal moniker well into the next century. And though many may dismiss both directives as the product of Jackson camp hype, once the music begins it's hard to deny him any title he wishes to bestow upon himself.
All of the songs on HISTORY's first disc have already been ingrained in the minds of the radio-listening, MTV-watching public. From the funky disco of 1979's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," through the countless and diverse THRILLER hits ("Billie Jean," "The Girl Is Mine," etc.), to the anthemic peace-in-our-time ballad "Heal The World," Jackson's star-power-fueled singles invested the mainstream with black pop's soulfulness to the point where black pop became the mainstream. And Jackson, subsequently, became pop's king.
On the second disc, Jackson tries to retain a hold over his current empire while moving toward a more street-wise, hip-hop-tinged pop. "Scream," a duet with sister Janet, is prototypical. The beats are cold and stone-hard, and effuse grey noise electric discharges. Yet after multiple listens the song's simple chorus and minimalist melody imb
| | Black Eyed Peas E.N.D. (the Energy Never Dies) CD (2009)
Genesis CD music
$11.49 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym for "Energy Never Dies"), their third studio effort. Combining Will.I.Am's thumping 808 kick drum-infused beats with production assistance from a host of collaborators (including vocoder-loving Torontoians MSTRKRFT and French house veteran David Guetta), BEP's infectious party-time rhymes are an easy match for the album's Ed Banger-style of electro rapping and Auto Tune jamming, especially on lead-off single and sure-fire 2009 summer anthem "Boom Boom Pow."
Audio Mixers: Joe Peluso; Dylan "3D" Dresdow.
Audio Remasterers: Chris Bellman; Brian "BC" Catena.

| | Very Best Of Otis Redding CD (1992)
Genesis songs
$8.49 It is impossible to overrate Otis Redding. This Rhino compilation, while in no way comprehensive, is nonetheless an outstanding sampler of songs by one of soul music's all-time titans. There's not a dud among these 16 songs, and some, like "These Arms Of Mine," "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay," and "Try A Little Tenderness," rank among the greatest pop songs ever recorded.
Redding's performances are mesmerizing and seem to embody the perfect balance between acute sensitivity and sheer overwhelming emotional strength. The combination of Redding's magnetism and the quality of such songs as "Mr. Pitiful," "I Can't Turn You Loose," and "Respect" is almost too good to be true. The album's only shortcoming is that there aren't more tracks to savor. A perfect introduction to this phenomenal singer.

| | Don Henley Very Best Of CDs (2009) With DVD; Deluxe Edition
Genesis album
$14.54 Fourteen years separate 2009's THE VERY BEST OF DON HENLEY and Henley's first compilation ACTUAL MILES: HENLEY'S GREATEST HITS. During that near decade-and-a-half, Henley only released one new album, 2000's INSIDE JOB, a record that generated a couple of minor hit singles highlighted by "Taking You Home," which reached number 58 on Billboard's Hot 100 and number twelve on the magazine's Adult Top 40 chart. This means that this 2009 compilation doesn't have anything major that's not on the 1995 disc - even the cover of Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows," which debuted on ACTUAL MILES, has been carried over to THE VERY BEST - so there's not much reason to swap hits discs, but anybody in the market for a Don Henley compilation will find this satisfying, as it has all the big hits from BUILDING THE PERFECT BEAST and THE END OF THE INNOCENSE.

It will always be a mystery how a grown man can spend his life wearing a school tie and short pants and receive adulation from the heavy metal fraternity. HM followers do not tolerate a cissy, yet the hugely talented Angus Young has become something of a hero. His riff-laden fills, combined with the tough vocals of the late Bon Scott, made AC/DC one of the genre's all-time leading lights. Bordering on the lighter side of metal, songs such as 'Love Hungry Man', 'Touch Too Much' and the title track will always delight.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Recorded at Roundhouse Studios, London, England in 1979. Originally released as Atlantic (19244). The 2003 edition of HIGHWAY TO HELL includes liner notes by Ernie Welch.
