In the early '80s, Collins took a break from the helm of Genesis to inaugurate a solo career that abandoned his group's art-rock agenda for a mainstream pop approach. In the ensuing years, the king of Nice Guy Pop established himself as one of the world's premier top 40 balladeers, as evidenced by the wall-to-wall hits that make up the balance of this appropriately titled collection. HITS walks the listener through the smooth, well-produced Collins hits that have worked their way into the collective consciousness of radio listeners (even casual ones) over the years. There are majestic power ballads ("I Wish It Would Rain") to light-hearted, infectious pop-funk ("Sussudio") and moody atmospheric pieces ("In the Air Tonight") HITS represents the full range of material this prolific performer has turned out over the course of his wildly successful career.

WOW!! This "Hits" cd is wonderful!! Phil Collins delivers as usual. Submitted by a reviewer (Washington, D.C.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Hits + This is a fine collection and deserves a 5 star rating, but would have been even better with the following: Long, Long Way To Go, Don't Lose My Number, Inside Out. I am sure there is even more unsung hits, that should have been included. We will have to wait for a more expanded hits collection. | | U2 Best Of 1980-1990/The B-Sides CDs (1998)
Hits music CDs
$22.89 U2 burst onto the scene at the onset of the '80s with a majestic, uplifting, earnest approach and a unique textural sound that endeared them to fans and critics alike. They spent the rest of the decade growing up in public, solidifying their status as post-punk icons, marrying the good intentions of old-school alternative rock with the epic sonic scale of classic '70s rockers, never sounding less than totally original and never pausing for a hits compilation--until 1998. BEST OF offers a good representation of the complex body of work that made the band a legend.
Fittingly, the album begins with the debut's "I Will Follow," a statement of commitment to pursuing truth and spirituality despite ...

$11.85 Myths, Legends... is a collection of B-sides, outtakes, and other sundry from the vaults of the Aquabats. Taken from over the space of three or more years, it's an odd mishmash of this and that. Some power pop tunes, some of the standard ska/pop-punk that the Aquabats started with. Plenty of silly songs, some of which goes far beyond some ...
| | Stalking Roxy Look In The Mirror CD (2004)
Hits songs
$9.69 Stalking Roxy joined LA's underground music scene in early 2001, with youth on their side and the love of punk, alternative rock, and bright third-wave ska in their hearts. Lead by Deziree Zuniga, a powerful and charismatic front woman, this 6-piece band has created the catchiest, ska-influenced music to have left California since the third-wave ska boom. Stalking Roxy's heavy lean on rock while still blasting away with intense horns instantly brings comparisons to No Doubt, Save Ferris, and Mealticket -yet the band maintains the ska feel throughout ...

| | Vern Gosdin Chiseled In Stone CD (1988)
Hits music CDs
$5.95 The 1980s were the beginning of a run of fine albums for Vern Gosdin that continued into the 21st century. It's true that he wasn't always as popular as he was in the late '60s and mid-'70s, but from his period on Compleat through his signing with Columbia and on into American Harvest Recordings in the late '90s, Gosdin has made solid, tough, and aesthetically beautiful country records. The new traditionalists, led by Dwight Yoakam, were the very movement that helped Gosdin regain popular acceptance for a time from the mid-'80s through 1993. Chiseled in Stone ranks as arguably his finest moment of that period. Produced by Bob Montgomery, the album features a deck of tunes from Gosdin and co-writers Hank Cochran and Dean Dillon; if Gosdin didn't co-write, Dillon and Cochran did. What's more, these songs were all written for Gosdin's wonderfully worn yet astonishingly versatile voice. "Do You Believe Me Now," the darkest and most wrenching song on the album, opens it. It's the story of a man on skid row who is suddenly and unexpectedly visited by his ex, and he convinces her by his very ravaged existence that he cannot live without her and asks the question in the title. As Sonny Garrish's steel winds out underneath Gosdin's ...
