East, Leland Sklar, Cornelius Mims, John Giblin, Freddie Washington (bass); Sheila E.(percussion); Peter Gabriel, Sting, Marva King (background vocals). In the early '80s, Collins took a break from the helm of Genesis to inaugurate a ... Full Descriptionsolo career that abandoned his group's art-rock agenda for a mainstream pop approach. In the ensuing years, the king of Nice Guy Pop established himself as one of the world's premier top 40 balladeers, as evidenced by the wall-to-wall hits that make up the balance of this appropriately titled collection. HITS walks the listener through the smooth, well-produced Collins hits that have worked their way into the collective consciousness of radio listeners (even casual ones) over the years. There are majestic power ballads ("I Wish It Would Rain") to light-hearted, infectious pop-funk ("Sussudio") and moody atmospheric pieces ("In the Air Tonight") HITS represents the full range of material this prolific performer has turned out over the course of his wildly successful career.

Hits album
$10.59 Though he made his initial mark on music history as half of the unctuous British duo Wham, George Michael wasted little time in proving himself more than just a pretty pop face. This comprehensive two-disc compilation documents the career of a man who was able to successfully meld pop, R&B and serious, introspective balladry without ever losing sight of the all-important groove and hook.
Thankfully, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN doesn't skimp on tracks from Michael's classic solo debut, and tracks like Bo Diddley beat-driven "Faith" and the lusty, Prince-like "I Want Your Sex" sound as fresh as ever. Later cuts show Michael's maturation as both a vocalist and songwriter, and collaborations with Elton John and bossa nova legend Astrud Gilberto serve to emphasize the wide stylistic range Michael is capable of traversing.

| | Alanis Morissette Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie CD (1998)
Hits CD music
$11.39 "Thank U" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Alanis has a lot to answer for; in the process of changing the face of '90s pop music, she opened the door to scores of inferior imitators who crowded the charts with their transparent careerist fury. What they missed was the renegade spirit that lurks beneath Morissette's statements off vengeance and dissatisfaction. It's that spirit that enlivens INFATUATION JUNKIE. From awkward title to the unconventional lyrical construction, it's clear that the years between this album and Morisette's previous breakthrough recording have not dulled her iconoclasm or put soft edges on her anger. INFATUATION JUNKIE is at once more immediate and more artfully constructed than its predecessor. Songs like "Baba" are full of thrusting guitars and sledgehammer rhythms, but from "Front Row" to "So Pure," Morissette displays an expanded understanding of pop song mechanics. It's this melodic progression that helps INFATUATION JUNKIE live up to Morissette's daunting past.
Recorded at Royaltone Studios, Los Angeles, California.
Personnel: Alanis Morissette (vocals, harmonica, flute, piano); Glen Ballard (guitar, piano, synthesizer, programming); Nick Lashley, Joel Shearer (guitar); Benmont Tench (organ, chamberlin); Chris Chaney (bass); Gary Novak (drums, percussion); Shad T. Scott, Christopher Fogel (programming); Dash Mihok (loop).
Engineers: Christopher R. Fogel, Glen Ballard.

Fans old and new have much to celebrate about SUPERNATURAL, Carlos Santana's Arista Records debut. After several years of quiet in the studio, Santana is joined by his seasoned contemporary Eric Clapton and by such young luminaries as Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Rob Thomas, and Fher (of famed Mexi-rockers Mana). As an album that caps a rock career spanning more than three decades, SUPERNATURAL is a testament to the stylistic breadth of Carlos' musical world, to his dynamic communicative abilities, and to the fact that rolling stones truly gather no moss. The man continues to make a guitar wail like no other.
To the sound of punchy horns, Rodney Holmes' double-bass drum kick, and of course, Santana's searing string-bending, "Yaleo" tears it up with abandon. "Migra" is another signature Santana 'Latin rock' piece with a pulsing Bo Diddley beat and a strong message about the U.S. immigration officers' harassment of Latinos. "Love Of My Life" is a sultry number with Matthews pouring sweetness all over the microph

They burst onto the scene at the onset of the '80s with a majestic, uplifting, earnest approach and a unique textural sound that endeared them to fans and critics alike. U2 spent the rest of the decade growing up in public, solidifying their status as post-punk icons, marrying the good intentions of old school alternative rock with the epic sonic scale of classic '70s rockers, never sounding less than totally original and never pausing for a hits compilation--until now. BEST OF offers a good representation of the complex body of work that made the band a legend.
Fittingly, the album begins with the debut's "I Will Follow" a statement of commitment to pursuing truth and spirituality despite continual and inevitable misgivings. "Desire" mates Bono's lyrical fervor with a modified Bo Diddley beat to fine effect. New world meets old on the bluesy B.B. King collaboration "When Love Comes to Town." Closing things out, "All I Want is You" shows the moody, reflective side of the band, giving Bono a chance to croon and the rest of the band to exhibit the understated side of their instrumental might.

Phil Collins This CD is so moving and has wonderful songs that you can relax to. Nice songs to dance and some to think about life. Submitted by a reviewer (Beeville, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A good all-around, but not all of the pie A good way to tell a great artist from a good artist is what stuff goes on their "Greatest Hits" or "Hits" discs. If merely some of the hits makes it, then you know that they are great, because they've got too many hits to put them all on one disc. Such is the case with Phil Collins. He has assembled an amazingly stellar list of his songs here, but they are only the tip of the iceberg. There were at least five or ten other hits that never made it onto this album, probably because of the capacity of the CD. For instance, the amazing ballad with Sting, "Long Long Way To Go", along with "Don't Lose My Number", a hit in its own right, both from Phil's Album "No Jacket Required", are strangely absent, even though they are famous songs in their own right. And what about his latter-day hits? There's gonna have to be another "...Hits" disc sometime in the future just to keep up with this guy. In the meantime, you can get hooked onto Phil Mania with this disc, which is very, very good. Get it while you can, before Phil decides to renovate it or make another disc with all the stuff he missed with this one. Submitted by Galen (Anchorage, Alaska) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
