The last proper Led Zeppelin album shows the group's response to punk's encroachment to be a regal shrug and a continuation of the outsized heavy rock that made the band a legend. There are a few interesting stylistic detours--the almost salsa-like piano that drives "Fool in the Rain," the country-flavored hoedown of "Hot Dog"--but for the most part this is 1970s rock in the grandest style. John Paul Jones in particular struts his stuff here, his synthesizer powering "Carouselambra," Zeppelin's furthest excursion into prog rock, and sweetening "All My Love," a balladic requiem for Robert Plant's late son, Karac. Zeppelin sounds so assured on IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR it's hard to believe the end of the band was just around the corner.
Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals); Jimmy Page (acoustic & electric guitars, background vocals); John Paul Jones (synthesizer, bass); John Bonham (drums).

A Difficult Door Of Perception I love all of led Zeppelin's works, even when the band occasionally stumbles. "In Through The Out Door" unfortunately is their weakest effort. Jimmy Page's contribution seems to have been so diluted (especially when taking into account his work on the preceding "Presence") that he appears to be a side musician. John Paul Jones' keyboards dominates this album, and although he is not a bad musician...far from it...he functions best behind Page not in front of him. This misstep is a very poor closing chapter on a magnificent rock aggregation.
Going back in through the out door is indeed a daunting task, akin to cutting a formidable Gordian Knot. The album title is extremely appropriate. Submitted by Will-T (Lawrenceburg IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Album It was my second favorite by them, right after their fourth. Jimmy Page's guitar isn't as good on it. Submitted by ChrisMoulton6 (Sarasota, Fl, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A GREAT RETURN With its new albumn,The Group has a new direction and dimension with a more elaborate, elegant and well-played music, there is a musical exploration with new sounds and rythms,as country("Hot Dog"),brazilian rythm called "samba"-not salsa!!!-("Fool in the Rain"),great work with keyboards and synths ("South Bound Saurez") and the classic hard rock ("In the Evening").Sincerely,I love "Carouselambra" and "All my love".The albumn is a continuation of the outsized rock that made the band a legend.ONLY FOR TRUE ZEPPīS FANS. everyone inside the door I've owned this album for many years and have been fairly pleased with it. I have about 3 different covers and would like to collect the rest. I realy go for the different perspectives you see the man at the bar from. I Imagine he is reflective about a woman who has left, and only a long slow blues song chased with some cheap whiskey will wash the bite of reality away. I also like the fact he is burning a dear john letter. It's like " hello I'm Sam Spade, and I got the time to wonder why she left me". In Through The Out Door
$11.65 Rising from the ashes of his old band the Yardbirds, session guitarist Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most powerful, influential, and enduring British bands to emerge in the '60s. Despite the presence of such classic thrash-o-ramas as "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown," what set Led Zeppelin apart was the depth and range of their music. Their sound was bathed in the blues, from rootsy covers of Willie Dixon's "You Shook Me" and "I Can't Quit You Baby," to the crunching rhythm changes of "Dazed And Confused."
Few guitarists before or since possessed Page's sense of pacing and dynamics, as exemplified by the traditional acoustic folk ...

In Through The Out Door
$11.89 Led Zeppelin's epochal fourth album finds both the band's blues-rock thunder and their gentler, more lyrical side filed down to a razor-sharp point. "Black Dog" and "Rock and Roll" aren't just perennial air-guitar anthems; they're the ultimate distillation of the blues-inflected, hard-rock fury the band had already been perfecting for the past three years. Robert Plant's Little Richard-on-amphetamines wail rides perfectly atop the band's strategically directed crunch for maximum impact. "When the Levee Breaks"is a titanic take ...
| | Led Zeppelin Houses Of The Holy CD (1973) Remastered
In Through The Out Door
$11.65 By 1973, Led Zeppelin was getting used to being the biggest band on the planet (both financially and sonically). Letting their guard down and their spirits wander, they came up with the most widely varied album in their discography. Stylistically, HOUSES OF THE HOLY is all over the map, but it coheres in a grand manner befitting the '70s rock royalty Zeppelin had become. Stepping back a little from the epic scale of ZEPPELIN IV, the group slips into a funky James Brown homage ("The Crunge"), offers one of the first-ever attempts at reggae-rock ("D'yer Ma'ker"), and ventures into Pink Floyd-like ...
| | Led Zeppelin III CD (1970) Remastered
In Through The Out Door
$11.65 LED ZEPPELIN III is the sound of rock's brash enfants terrible beginning to mature. While the take-no-prisoners blues-rock of the first two albums is still prominent in the band's tool box, other implements are beginning to appear. The delicate acoustic whispers that would run through much of ZEPPELIN IV have their folk/blues antecedents here (the lambent "That's the Way," the earthy "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp"), the results of the band's creative encampment in a woodland dwelling. At the same time, the heavier tracks are unprecedented in their ferocious ...
| | Led Zeppelin Presence CD (1976) Remastered
In Through The Out Door
$8.49 Led Zeppelin's seventh album, PRESENCE, is a straight-ahead rocker, that has much more of a "live" feel than some of their previous recordings. Gone are most of the big production flourishes, and in their place the big power trio + vocals sound that made Led Zeppelin such a popular concert band.
The opening "Achilles ...
| | Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti CDs (1975) Remastered
In Through The Out Door
$16.19 After a two-year recording gap (the longest in their recording career up to that point), Led Zeppelin followed the rampant eclecticism of HOUSES OF THE HOLY with the embarrassment of riches that is PHYSICAL GRAFFITI. One could be forgiven for thinking of this expansive double-length set as Zeppelin's WHITE ALBUM. It's a great schizophrenic beast, the first side containing the most concentrated dose of pure hard-rock energy the band had delivered since their first two albums, and the second showing off the ...
