Early, but BEST!
Not very commercial, but the most musically inspired album by Bad Co. The writing is superb and insightful, bluesy rock for the most part. Should be part of any collector's stash.

The Best from Bad Company
Not a big fan of most of their albums, but an familiar with them all. "Burning Sky" was, in my opinion the most underated Bad Co. album of them all and possibly their best. Paul Rodgers delivers some of his best song writing and vocals over a rnage of serious, hard rocking tunes such as the title track to the more gentler tracks like "Like Water". Most hard core Bad Co. fans would likely agree that this album deserves more props than it has gotten over the past 2.5 decades since it was released.

A Few Playings To Realise Some Hiddens Gems
On first hearing this CD it leaves the listener thinking that the albums' OK but not the bands best work. However after further playing you realise that the great guitar riffs, the driving combination of bass and drums and the great background rythmns of Bad Company are still there, they just seem a bit more subdued than earlier albums.
The album opens well with a typical mid-rocker titled "Burnin Sky". Then you get a slight feeling of loss of direction until track 6 when all the great Bad Company musical licks are again present until the end of the album. Don't get me wrong, tracks 2 to 4 are good songs but they are more on the ballad style of things and possibly the use of a piano to help push the melody along may have helped. (They had done that on previous albums to great effect). However there are a couple of throw away tracks - 5 and 12. Which begs the question of why they were included in the first place. Maybe their inclusion assists in the perception that there could be something more happening with this album. Better effort on the order of songs may have helped.
I have to rate this one compared to earlier albums therefore it gets a 3.5 out of 5. However for fans it needs to be in the collection.

A forgotten gem from Bad Company
"Burning Sky" has the misfortune of being over-shadowed by their more popular early albums. Although it didn't create any hits (besides the title track), the album as a whole is a pleasure to listen to. Some of the tracks presented here are idea's that would later be more fully realized on their next recording "Desolation Angels".
Although their greatest hits album released later on was titled "10 from 6" (meaning: 10 cuts from their first 6 albums), there are actually NO songs from "Burning Sky" represented. Pity....

Blues Rock done right
Blues infused rock used to be as commonplace in the 70s and 80s as big hair and makeup would be later...Bad Company was among the purveyors of this form of rock with Paul Rodgers as one of the finest singers of the genre. The first albums by Bad Company serve as a fine introduction to this form along with Humble Pie, Foghat, Free, and (mostly) British based bands. See what the fuss is all about...
