The Association: Terry Kirkman (vocals); Russ Giguere, Jim Yester (vocals, guitar); Ted Bluechel (guitar, drums); Gary Alexander (guitar); Brian Cole (bass). Producers: Bones Howe, The Association, Curt Boettcher, Jerry Yester. Beyond representing the best in '60s California pop, the Association blazed trails in album production and the folk-psychedelia genre. With the guidance of L.A. producers Bones Howe, Curt Boettcher, and Jerry Yester, the band deftly mixed airy harmonies, unobtrusive rhythm tracks, and subtle "Age of Aquarius" accents from harpsichords, Farfisa organs, fuzz-box guitars, trumpets, and bongos -- at times, the sophisticated blend was held together by L.A. session players. And while the group successfully expanded their harmonic horizons on "Requiem for the Masses," they also went a bit beyond their strengths with Jefferson Airplane-esque rockers like "Six Man Band." Luckily, the majority of this hits collection focuses on the band's dreamy combination of polished folk, limber vocal arrangements, and wide-screen instrumental backdrops. The summery program also includes chart-toppers like "Windy," "Cherish," "Along Comes Mary," and "Never My Love," along with progressive pop-and-harmony tracks like "No Fair at All," "Everything That Touches You," and "Time for Livin'." A great introduction to the band's prime work from the latter half of the '60s. ~ Stephen Cook Quite possibly the finest harmony group of the '60s and one of the best light pop bands ever, Los Angeles' The Association had an unbeatable string of hits in the mid-60s. All of those hits are included here. From the mildly controversial and psych-tinged "Along Comes Mary" and "Windy"--both of which contain not-terribly-subtle drug references--to the innocuous but heartbreakingly beautiful ballads "Never My Love" and "Cherish," The Association's stock in trade was their precise four- and five-part harmony. Most often, these beautiful multi-part vocals are topped by Terry Kirkland's expressive leads. Although their years spent recording for Valiant and Warner Brothers Records produced many more gems than are included here, The Association's GREATEST HITS is a perfect starting point for this wonderful band.

| Greatest Hits Music Review Average Rating: (3.4 out of 5 stars) not what I expected I love The Association, but this cd did not have the original cuts, they were remakes, which sound horrible. Where are the originals? I would not buy this cd if you're looking for the old-school effect. Submitted by Jessie Kenney (Missoula, MT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

$19.79 Of all the bands to emerge from the early `90s grunge explosion, Pearl Jam was both the longest-lived and most consistently interesting. After several albums that found the group taking an increasingly experimental direction, the Seattle quintet returned to its straight-ahead hard rock roots with 2006's self-titled effort. In 2009 however, Pearl Jam surprised fans again with an album containing some of the unit's catchiest, poppiest songs ever. According to lead vocalist Eddie Vedder, most of the new material was written prior to recording, ...

Electric Light Orchetra Part II: Pete Haycock (vocals, guitar, bass); Eric Troyer (vocals, keyboards); Neil Lockwood (vocals); Bev Bevan (drums, percussion, background vocals). Additional personnel: Mik Kaminski (violin). Recorded at The Mill Studios, Cookham, England; Angel Studios, London, England; Rich Bitch Studios, Birmingham, England; Fanfare Studios, Golden, Colorado; Capitol Studios, Hollywood, California. Electric Light Orchestra: Bev Bevan, Mik Kaminski, Louis Clark, Kelly Groucutt, Eric Troyer, Phil Bates. Cut during the fall of 1972, Electric Light Orchestra II was where Jeff Lynne started rebuilding the sound of Electric Light Orchestra following the departure of Roy Wood from the original lineup. It was as personal an effort as Lynne had ever made in music, showcasing his work as singer, songwriter, guitarist, sometime synthesizer player, and producer, and it is more focused than its predecessor but also retains some of the earlier album's lean textures. Lynne, drummer Bev Bevan, bassist Mike D'Albuquerque, and keyboardist Richard Tandy comprise the core of the band, with two cellists and a violinist sawing away around them. There were holes in their sound that made the group seem somewhat ragged, as on the pounding "In Old England Town (Boogie #2)"; Lynne's singing would also have to develop, and some of the material also showed the need of an editor. On the other hand, "From the Sun to the World (Boogie #1)" was a succinct progressive rock workout, and "Kuiama" was a decent showcase for the different sides of the group that worked about as well as any 11-minute progressive rock track of the period. But the very fact that the group's cover of "Roll Over Beethoven" was the hit off of ...
