Easily the moodiest album in a career not lacking in that quality, ZUMA is a swirling, hypnotic current that drags you into river of self-doubt, bitterness and fear. This is the sound of the '60 gone sour. All the peace-and-love vibes Young ... Full Descriptiondabbled in with Buffalo Springfield and CSNY crash to the ground, and the strange, beautiful sound they make is ZUMA.
It's only through the good offices of Crazy Horse that Young is able to keep the somber, droning quality of these tunes going for an entire album without a moment of boredom. On the unforgivingly sarcastic "Stupid Girl" and the paranoid "Cortez the Killer," it's the languid air of acceptance with which Young delivers the lyrics that draws you in, but it's the twisting thorn bush of electric guitars that keeps you focused. Hidden amidst all this emotional turmoil is one of Young's most poignant, trenchant and concise pop gems, "Don't Cry No Tears."

$9.69 Let's get a popular misconception out of the way. The rap about this being one of Young's darkest, most harrowing albums is utter nonsense, perpetuated by critics who spend more time reading each other than listening to the music. TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT is dedicated to Young's guitarist Danny Whitten and roadie Bruce Berry, who died shortly before this recording was made, and the title cut details that very subject, but the darker moments here are leavened by a generous share of self-parodic humor and general Neil Young loopiness.
Sad, tender ballads like "Borrowed Tune," (itself not without humor) rub shoulders with hearty rockers like "Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown." Several tunes find Young and Crazy Horse exploring hard-edged country-rock with their collective tongue stuck firmly in the cheek, as on "Roll Another Number." Young's voice reels sadistically and purposefully out of tune, cutting ...
| | Neil Young Comes A Time CD (1978)
Zuma CD music
$9.69 With steel guitars, fiddles and lots of acoustic guitars, this low-key folk-rock album harks back to Young's great AFTER THE GOLD RUSH-HARVEST period, and if it doesn't measure up that's only because of the ridiculously high standards the earlier albums set. Taken by itself, COMES A TIME is a fine collection, anchored by the timeless wonderment of the title song; a cover of Ian & Sylvia's "Four Strong Winds," and the nearly indescribable "Look Out For My Love," which is either a love song, a threat or both.
COMES A TIME also features "Lotta Love," which was released simultaneously by Nicolette Larson and was a major hit for her. Larson doesn't sing on Young's version, but her background vocals distinguish much of the rest of COMES A TIME. Crazy Horse puts in an unusually low-key--but typically warm and ragged--appearance on two songs, "Look Out For My Love" and "Lotta Love."

| | Neil Young Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere CD (1969)
Zuma music CDs
$9.85 Neil Young's second album yielded several of his most enduring hits (including the title tune, "Cowgirl In The Sand," "Cinnamon Girl," and "Down By The River") and firmly established him as a solo artist of the first rank. Though it's impossible to narrow the catalog of Young and Crazy Horse down to one representative document, this is about as close as you're likely to get. This was Young's first collaboration with the Horse, and it's still one of that group's defining recorded moments. As in much of Young's subsequent work, the feeling of despair moves unabated through the album, which runs the emotional gamut from laconically desperate to psychotically desperate. Despite the gloom, the heavy electric riffing on "Cinnamon Girl" and "Cowgirl In the Sand"--two surrealistic odes to an idealized muse--is cathartic and invigorating, easily as riveting as the ...

Zuma songs
$10.59 As far as pure songcraft goes, it's hard to beat this 1979 offering from Young and Crazy Horse. By the end of the '90s, Young, Talbot, Molina and Sampredo had refined their crushing sonic assault to the extent that they could bludgeon the listener with Wagnerian riffs and rhythms (the entropy hymn "Hey Hey, My My") or provide just enough grit to keep ...
| | Neil Young On The Beach CD (1974) Remastered
Zuma album
$9.69 After working his way through loss and chaos on the brilliant TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975), Neil Young deftly exorcised any lingering demons with 1974's ON THE BEACH. The album opens with the saunter of the aptly titled "Walk On," followed by the utterly gorgeous, Wurlitzer-tinged "See the Sky about to Rain."
The set also features a trio of scathing songs--"Revolution Blues," "Vampire Blues," and "Ambulance Blues"--that address issues important to Young, both social and personal. It is good to hear Young back with such bite and vitriol, especially after the broken desperation of TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. But while ON THE BEACH is edgy and deeply felt, it also manages to sound liberating and relaxed, with glimmers of hope and humor peeking through the spare, evocative arrangements. Inexplicably ...

$17.95 After the peculiar experiments of their second album, ALTERNATIVE HITS (also known as NO ESCAPE), 1981's EVACUATE sets Chelsea on the course they would maintain for the rest of their career. Less manic than their early records, the 10 tracks on EVACUATE are sharp-edged rock & roll with a few punky touches, rather than full-on punk rock.
The new lineup, no longer featuring guitarist Tony James (who would go on to form the controversial Sigue Sigue Sputnik) turns songs like the stomping title track and "Tribal Song" ...

Eight years after its maiden jaunt, the G3 concert series continues to celebrate six-string excess for guitar geeks across the globe. The brainchild of legend Joe Satriani, G3 showcases Satch, his accomplished former student Steve Vai, and a wildcard support act. While the series has featured axe-slingers of a bluesier sort, the 2003 tour found the neo-classical king Yngwie Malmsteen joining the fretboard fray.

Zuma Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Zuma Think of this album as a "transition" period for Uncle Neil and Crazy Horse; power guitars to carry you back in time in "Cortez the Killer", and sweet throwback harmonies to soothe in "Pardon My Heart". Perhaps the most accessible piece of work Neil Young ever released...Those unfamiliar with Neil Young's work might like to start right here! Neil's best Year Ever! I would have to rate this collection ahead of havest. Hell, the only album better than this one is After the goldrush, making this the best Crazy horse album ever. I would love to debate any Neil Young fan that 1975(the year of this release)as being the most memorable year of his etire career. It amazes me that he came out with Tonight the night along with Zuma within six months. Both albums represent a major achievement, but Zuma ranks ahead as a unique masterpiece! Check it out.

Good This is probably not the best Neil Young-album but it is probably not one of his worst either, it`s somewhere in between. The album is mostly electric but there are two great acoustic songs as well. For the beginner it`s not the album to buy because it`s pretty edgy and the singing is sometimes out of tune so if you are not used to Neil buy Harvest or something like that at first, or buy my favorite Rust never sleeps which is half acoustic and half electric and see which Neil you like the most. one of my favorites I'm so burnt out on this album(after 20 years)I don't listen to it anymore because, someday,I want it to sound as refreshing as it did the first time I heard it at age sixteen. This is a good album for when the sun is going down and you are tired of life.I've heard Neil say "Don't Cry No Tears"was one of the first songs he wrote when he was a kid-That sets a pretty high standard for any songwriter.EVERY song on ZUMA is essential Neil Young and Crazy Horse.Go ahead and buy it and listen with an open mind!
