| | Frank Sinatra Greatest Hits Vol. 1 CD Frank Sinatra Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This compilation of classic 1960s Frank Sinatra material, the first in Reprise's two-volume anthology of notable Sinatra performances, collects a wide variety of the singer's recordings. "Strangers in the Night" was a massive hit for Sinatra in 1966, while "Something Stupid," his duet with his daughter Nancy, performed similarly well a couple of years later. "Forget Domani" demonstrates the master showman's facility with even the most lightweight material, while "It Was a Very Good Year" is the first in a series of regretful backward glances that was to culminate in his early-'70s recording of "My Way."
1987 collection issued through Reprise. Out-of-print in the US.

Greatest Hits Vol. 1 album
$12.69 Ceasing his romantic decade -- overviews of the '80s -- because, really, what `90s love songs are there for him to croon outside of "My Heart Will Go On" -- Barry Manilow doubles back for 2010's The Greatest Love Songs of All Time, picking great romantic tunes from the 20th century, ranging from "The Twelfth of Never," "You Made Me Love You," and "How Deep Is the Ocean?" to "We've Only Just Begun," "Love Me Tender," "The Look of Love," and "I Only Have Eyes for You." As the title suggests, this collection of 13 songs is very much cut from the same cloth as its four predecessors, favoring the familiar to the obscure, relying on the same clean, efficient production that lets the songs and his personality shine in equal measure. Although this is certainly a modern production -- albeit one with keyboard sounds straight out of 1987 -- this isn't a record that ...

| | Judy Garland Get Happy CDs (2002)
Greatest Hits Vol. 1 songs
$11.65 The two CDs in this package contain separate collections of Judy Garland performances of the 1950s and '60s. Disc one is a compilation of duets drawn from television programs, almost all of them from the 1963-1964 series The Judy Garland Show, the sole exception being a medley of "Let There Be Love" and "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You" sung with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra that derives from a 1962 special also entitled The Judy Garland Show. The sound quality is terrific, the arrangements bold and brassy, and the guest stars enthusiastic in teaming with Garland. This material, which apparently is being licensed more or less indiscriminately by the estate of Garland's third husband, Sid Luft, to any label willing to pay the fee, is also available in one form or another on many other reissues, but this one is well-put-together, with the tracks segueing seamlessly together as if this were one long, all-star show. Disc two has also turned up on many other discs. It is the private recording made of Garland's final show of her 1951-1952 engagement at the Palace Theater in New York. Here, too, the sound quality is much better than it has been on previous ...
| | Babatunde Level Of Intent CD (1996)
Greatest Hits Vol. 1 album
$10.89 Rare CD Defines Master Drummer/Percussionist As Leader /Composer Babatunde Lea has been the drummer / percussionist of choice for legends Pharaoh Sanders, Stan Getz, McCoy Tyner, Randy Weston and Van Morrison, to name a few. On October 21, 2003 Motema Music is releasing Level of Intent, Lea's amazing debut as a composer and leader. This CD is the precursor to his acclaimed March of the Jazz Guerillas (Ubiquity 1999) and his most recent release, Soul Pools (Motema - February '03). This Afro-Latino-cosmic-jazz tour-de-force features jazz legends Hilton Ruiz, Kenny Barron, Jon Faddis, Charnette Moffett, Santi Debriano, Frank Colon, John Purcell and Frank Lacy and is the cornerstone in the trilogy that defines Lea's voice as a leader and master drummer / percussionist. Showcased here is Lea's eclectic blend of Afro-Cuban-Carribbean rhythms and the unparalleled group energy that has now made him one of the hottest acts on the international jazz circuit. Originally released in 1995 on Lea's personal imprint, Diaspora, Level of Intent was not widely distributed, and copies are extremely rare and hard to find. Now signed to Motema Music, a new and innovative label offering jazz, world, dance and other creative music, Lea is riding high on the crest of his most recent, critically acclaimed release, Soul Pools (Motema - May '03). Soul Pools received Four Stars in Downbeat, was selected as Critics Choice for 2003 in JAZZIZ Magazine, was covered in three articles in Billboard and earned Lea a nomination as Best Jazz Artist of 2003 by San Francisco Weekly. Soul Pools is still going strong and features Lea favorites, Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Hilton Ruiz and trombonist/arranger Frank Lacy (who guests on '03 Grammy-nominated CDs by Elvis Costello and Mingus Big Band). "Level of Intent is the CD that made me want to sign Babatunde in the first place, so I'm thrilled to give this disc its day in the sun," says Jana Herzen, founder and CEO of Motema. "It's fitting, too, ...
