(1 Customer Review)
This is a DTS CD, which features DTS 5.1 Surround Sound technology and is playable on a DTS-capable 5.1 Surround Sound system.
IMAGINATION includes a remake of the Beach Boys' "Let Him Run Wild" and a Jimmy Buffett collaboration, "South American," that gives "Kokomo" a run for its money. It's only the second album of new material Wilson has made in the 25 or so years he's spent lolling around his swimming pool, and it's a damn shame because at its best, which those two songs aren't, it flirts with perfection.
Beyond the three- and four-part harmonies (handled mostly by Wilson himself) and the dense beds of saxes, trumpets, clarinets and percussion--all of which Wilson fans have long been able to count on--are those classic Wilson melodies. He thrives on little complexities, like the strange modulations in the doo-woppy "Keep An Eye On Summer" and the extra chords in "Lay Down Burden" over which he stretches a stock pop melody. And he can still turn out a deceptively simple pop hook, as on "Your Imagination," and surprise you with his voice, like when he reaches for the lower depths of his range on "Cry."
Contains interviews with Jimmy Buffett, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Glen Campbell, Peter Buck, Sean Lennon, Barenaked ladies, Paul Shaffer, Diane Warren, and Melinda Wilson as well as concert footage.

Entertainment Weekly (6/19/98, p.74) - "...Wilson, the vocally rejuvenated Beach Boy auteur, trades in whimsy for effervescence here and the sunlit results are gladdening." - Rating: B Q (4/00, p.117) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...relies to some extent on the fact that you know who Brian Wilson is....IMAGINATION is his most consistent effort since [1965's PET SOUNDS]." | | Brian Wilson I Just Wasn't Made For These Times CD (1995)
Imagination
$5.85 I JUST WASN'T MADE FOR THESE TIMES is the soundtrack to the documentary film.
Brian Wilson transforms feelings of isolation and loneliness into music that approaches the divine. For those interested in checking out the man's much-vaunted genius, this soundtrack to a bio-documentary on Wilson is a fine place to start. Hearing these songs outside of their usual Beach Boys settings allows the listener to appreciate Wilson's gifts as songwriter and singer from a new perspective.
Expertly recorded by veteran producer Don Was, these pristine versions are faithful to the originals (most notably in the succinct arrangements). The classic "Caroline No" retains its utter poignancy, gaining additional resonance from the 30-some years that have past since Wilson first sang this song of loss. He sounds energized by the spirited backup vocals of his daughters on the rocking "Do it Again," and he sings like an angel on "Love and Mercy." The oddly touching "Still I Dream of It," rendered here in a primitive home ...
| | Brian Wilson Smile CD (2004)
Imagination
$16.19 Between 1967 and 2004, the SMILE sessions were pretty much the Dead Sea Scrolls of pop music. Well documented as head Beach Boy Brian Wilson's answer to the Beatles' masterpiece SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (which was itself largely an answer to the Beach Boys' PET SOUNDS), the tracks laid down in '67 for the projected SMILE album were the furthest afield anyone nominally operating under the pop/rock umbrella had ever ventured. Notoriously, intraband conflict (Mike Love, in particular, found the Wilson/Van Dyke Parks-penned conceptual work too far out) kept the record from being released. With several oceans' worth of water under the bridge, Wilson finally decided to finish the aborted project three-and-a-half decades later, adhering closely to the original blueprints. The results are as timelessly breathtaking as the original version must have been to the lucky few who first heard the initial tapes.
With sterling support from his backing band ...

$14.79 The Mantra on this album is the closing prayer/couplet from the prayer/composition called Jaap Sahib written by Guru Gobind Singh (Tenth Master or Guru of the Sikhs). Thomas and I worked together to make a very sparkling upbeat chant as so many of the chants produced are very sleepy.I have been chanting these four lines for decades every time I would feel myself sinking into a mental abyss of self doubt. fear that the world is closing in upon me. I love this version as it is VERY peppy and always brings me "up up and away" into my bright side. The mantra is a "Shakti" mantra, which means it gives you mastery over your mind.If you have seen the movie "Peaceful Warrior" you will know how Dan functioned with excellance after he cleared his mind. This music has the ability when applied as a meditation to clear you mind which is a prerequisite for physical healing.Yogi Bhajan's voice is so penetrating that his sound can activate your own healing power. The real man who used this mantra in battle was the ...
