Disturbed's debut found the band crawling through the mire of contemporary metal staples for a cohesive direction. The staccato primal scream that became the band's trademark helped break the single, "Down With The Sickness," in tandem with the song's Tool-meets-Pantera rhythmic complexities. From the rap metal grooves of "Voices" and "Stupify" to the neo-reggae vibe of "Violence Fetish," THE SICKNESS was a musical forecast of things to come for Disturbed. "Numb" found the band making a foray into more melodic and progressive territory, an approach they would further develop with 2002's BELIEVE.

Rolling Stone (9/28/00, pp.53-4) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Follows the same trajectory of their 1st album [going from] tranquil emotional tenderness into fuzzed-out, white-knuckle anger....with banging beats..." Alternative Press (5/00, pp.84-5) - 4 out of 5 - "...A resuscitating jolt of unwholesome tweaked soundage....This satisfying slab is just anthem after anthem of maximum decibels that -miraculously - never gets samey..." CMJ (1/08/01, p.26) - Included in CMJ's "Best Loud Rock Albums" of 2000. CMJ (3/27/00, p.28) - "...catchy, addictive, and ultimately forward-thinking...leaving a permanent impression..." Melody Maker (7/4/00, p.65) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Rather entertaining in a turn-off-brain cheap-thrills kinda way....Absolute unreasoning misanthropy of a frankly adolescent nature." Hard and heavy Disturbed's sound is almost a mix between Godsmack and Korn. The CD is hard from start to finish and Dave's growling voice just adds to the Disturbed music. Submitted by a reviewer (Memphis, TN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Ozzy Osbourne Down To Earth CD (2001)
Sickness CD music
$7.59 Initial pressings of DOWN TO EARTH will include regular audio tracks as well as multimedia computer files. The Enhanced portion includes live perfomance footage of Ozzy Osbourne performing with Randy Rhodes.
Six years of waiting for a new album had impatient Ozzy fans biting the heads off of live animals, but DOWN TO EARTH finally arrived. Whereas OZZMOSIS may have harkened back to Ozzy's early days of Black Sabbath, EARTH is unmistakably solo Ozzy. First single "Gets Me Through" is a radio-friendly thank you to his fans in which he exclaims "I'm not the anti-Christ or the iron man." The piano intro is reminiscent of "No More Tears." Piano is also featured in "Dreamer" and "Running Out Of Time," two of The Ozzman's most well crafted ballads. Ozzy maturing? Yes, but in a GOOD way.
Things get heavier on "No Easy Way Out," featuring the driven guitar wizardry of longtime collaborator Zakk Wylde. Joe Holmes, Ozzy's road guitarist of recent years lends his writing talents to "That I Never Had" and "Junkie" (a midtempo rocker telling the tale of a desperate addict). "You Know (Part 1)" is a wonderful acoustic cut about Ozzy's ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne Ozzmosis CD (1995) Remastered
Sickness music CDs
$7.59 Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing.
Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting.
But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne The Ozzman Cometh CD (2002)
Sickness songs
$9.69 THE OZZMAN COMETH is a single CD collection of hits, previously unavailable recordings and one new track. Previously included a limited edition second disc containing 2 of the 4 previously unavailable recordings as well as an interview with Ozzy Osbourne.
As if we needed another reason to believe that Ozzy Osbourne is God, along comes THE OZZMAN COMETH, a double CD retrospective of one of the most enduring and influential figures in heavy metal. Consisting mostly of his post-Black Sabbath solo work as well as a live version of "Paranoid," this collection's biggest asset is the so-called "basement tapes," never-before-heard rehearsal tapes of four classic Sabbath songs. Dating back to 1970, "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs" are the songs that transformed a petty thief from Birmingham, England into the godfather of heavy metal.
But if Sabbath cemented his place in the rock 'n' roll canon, his solo work raised him to legendary status. Working with former Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, Osbourne set the tone for the 80's metal revival with songs like "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley." Capping off the collection is a seventeen minute interview with Ozzy from 1988, where he ...
| | Disturbed Believe (not limited edition) CD (2002) Enhanced CD, NOT limited leather ed.
Sickness album
$11.75 This Limited version of BELIEVE is packaged in a leather-bound book, accompanied by a companion bonus DVD disc.
Taking the essence of classic metal and making it contemporary is a feat that Disturbed has accomplished with staggering results. While the band's debut only toyed with melodicism (much of THE SICKNESS was derivative of the growing stable of rap metal bands), BELIEVE is Disturbed's musical arrival. Razor-sharp syncopated riffing is melded with rock radio-friendly melodic vocals, making a jaw-dropping first impression with album-opener "Prayer." The track has the requisite elements to make it an instant metal classic. Disturbed's influences peek through their music, but not in a negative sense; it's clear that Pantera, Metallica and Queensryche were among the artists this band cut their teeth on.
"Intoxication" revisits the vocal style that broke the band with "Down With The Sickness," but vocalist David Draiman puts much more effort into a vocal approach that doesn't rely on gimmicks, especially with the big chorus in "Remember" and the splayed vocal harmonies in "Believe." Making the leap into rock balladry, the album closes on an emotional ...

| | First Night On Earth No One Knows Anything For Sure CD (2002)
Sickness album
$7.99 Ex-Laburnum frontman Wes Grasty developed a shimmery dream pop sound with First Night on Earth, deviating far enough from My Bloody Valentine and Lush for a unique sound of their own. Their debut album, No One Knows Anything for Sure, swirls around atmospheric loops, hazy guitar work, and crashing percussion waves, but it's Grasty's low, boyish vocals that make First Night on Earth's sound bit a different from their influences. Vocalist Tina Cargill is a nice addition, particularly on the cascading trip "Subside." "Misunderstood" is dark in subtle electronics while echoing Joy Division-like appeal, and "A Good Reason" plays around with jazz threads. No One Knows Anything for Sure is an honest, ambitious effort for First Night on Earth and definitive of what's musically affected Grasty. He knows what lies ahead. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
first night on earth is the vision of founder Wes Grasty, formerly a member of the band Laburnum."no one knows anything for sure", first night on earth's first release, is born of Grasty's gestation of songs and complimentary choice of musicians including Stephen Yount (guitar), Chris London (bass), Vance Carlisle (drums) and Tina Cargill (keys, guitar and backing vocals).Grasty received critical acclaim for his work in Laburnum including "Best Male Vocalist", Creative Loafing.According to Magnet magazine: "Vocalist Wes Grasty is...an identifying trait...he's got a vulnerable, tuneful appeal." Grasty has taken his talents and unusual style and applied it to first night on earth. For their debut CD, the band rehearsed throughout the summer of 2001 and recorded at Scrimshaw Studios (Charlotte, NC) and Reflection Sound Studios (Charlotte, NC) in the fall of 2001.This album has a crisp, fresh new sound.first night on earth's surreal sounding guitars, cascading keys, thoughtfully placed bass lines, modern synthetic loops and driving drums help carve a new 21st century sound.Their mixture of rock/pop with occasional electronic beats and memorable melodies sets first night on earth apart from the norm.Additionally, Grasty's lyrics provide an enchanting and personable touch to an already beautiful landscape.REVIEWS:"First Night On Earth, on No One Knows Anything For Sure (Liquilab), spotlights the expressive vocals of Wes Grasty (ex-Laburnum) while deploying a high-drama stealth arsenal of arpeggiated U2ish riffs, sonorous keys, restless percussion and tingly female backing vox. It's all wrapped up, womb-like, in the richest and most luscious wooly post-shoegaze atmospherics."- Fred Mills, Magnet Magazine, Issue #53-----Album Review by EDF © 2002 PHASE9 ENTERTAINMENT "Formed by Wes Grasty, this five-piece band from North Carolina has a sound that is similar at times to some British guitar groups from the 1980's. This gives First Night On Earth an edge over other upcoming American bands, as this is the sort of sound that is quite unique these days to which a lot of bands, if they tried, would otherwise fail to reproduce. With ...
