Considering that Tony Iommi is the sole remaining member from the classic Sabbath lineup, it's not surprising that the centerfold of the CD booklet finds him sitting alone in his black Porsche. Changing personnel more times than Spinal Tap changed drummers, Iommi was determined to keep the Sabbath name alive in the metal-friendly late '80s. 1987's ETERNAL IDOL is a powerful, if uneven, record.

Tony Martin's strong vocals, along with Iommi's melodic riffing, carry IDOL throughout. "The Shining" and "Glory Ride" are fine headbanging numbers, while "Scarlett Pimpernel" is a somber acoustic instrumental. The title track is an epic tune, and the grand finale to an impressive album. For IDOL, Iommi wrote all the songs and IS Black Sabbath, though the additional musicians, all metal veterans, contribute to the music. IDOL is a thumbs-up winner.

Recorded at Air Studios, Monserrat; Air Studios, Battery Studios, London, England.

Black Sabbath: Tony Martin (vocals); Tony Iommi (guitar); Geoff Nicholls (keyboards); Dave Spitz; Bob Daisley (bass); Eric Singer (drums); Bev Bevan (percussion).

Producers: Vic Coopersmith-Heaven, Chris Tsangerides, J. Glixman.

4 stars great 80's sabbath
this is more of a power-metal sabbath, featuring some slick guitar work from iommi and some harmonic metal vocals from tony martin. Overall a very cleanly produced album, yet a forgotten one in the sabbath canon. "the shining" and the title track are worth the price of admission alone.

5 stars A must have
I have been a Black Sabbath fan for 25 years and this is truly one of their best efforts...very reminiscent of the Dio era (ie. Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules) this has a wonderful sound of its own, bluesy, soulful and yes heavy enough to be called Sabbath. One of my favorites of all - I never get tired of listening to this one.

5 stars A Classic 80s Masterpiece!
As the title says, it most definitly shows how Black Sabbath progressed through a great decade of the 80s. First off, in comes Tony Martin on vocals, what a killer set of pipes this Brit has, the songs are all very catchy and memorable such as Hard Life to Love and Nightmare...If you liked the Dio era of the Sabbs, then this album is an absolute MUST! Heavy, Loud, Long Live Rock, and Once you have listened to the Dio/Tony Martin Era you will appreciate OZZY leaving Sabbath...

5 stars Tony Iommi is the metal god.
Powerful, glorious and mayestetic. What can I say? This is a top album by Iommi, definitely. If you are looking for genuine heavy metal with a touch of golden riffs, stop looking!

Up For The Down Stroke
Parliament Up For The Down Stroke CD  (1974) Bonus Tracks; Remastered

Though the heavier, harder, and more psychedelic Funkadelic was George Clinton's main outfit in the early '70, the creation of Parliament (named for Clinton's '60s soul group, The Parliaments, which included many core members of Parliament/Funkadelic) is at least as important in the history of P-Funk. In contrast to Funkadelic's acid-rock freak-outs, Parliament emphasizes vocals and horn riffs while highlighting tunes and melodies. Early efforts of the brilliantly creative songwriting team of George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, and Bernie Worrell (who would achieve apotheosis on MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION) are on display here. Many of these tracks are textured, psychedelicized rewrites of such Parliament songs as "(I Just Wanna) Testify," the group's first #1 hit. The deeply soulful, multi-part vocal version of this track is pure genius and is arguably the album's highlight. The title cut--another hit for the band--is one of Parliament's most infectious booty-movers, and it would be a staple of their live acts for years to follow. While not essential, UP FOR THE DOWN STROKE is an interesting peek at the beginnings of funk's finest ensemble. Kicking off with one of prime funk's purest distillations -- the outrageously great title track, with a perfect party chorus line and uncredited horns (presumably the Horny Horns were involved somehow) adding to the monster beat and bass -- Up for the Down Stroke finds Parliament in rude good health. As was more or less the case through the '70s, Parliament took a slightly more listener-friendly turn here than they did as Funkadelic, but often it's a difference by degrees. Just listening to some of Bernie Worrell's insane keyboard parts or Bootsy Collins' bass work here is enough to wake the dead. As always, Worrell in particular can suddenly surprise with his delicacy -- the soft, understated flow of "I Just Got Back" may have lyrics that could be sung by Jon Anderson, at least at points, but the piano lines have subtle, dreamy grace, the antithesis of Rick Wakeman's masturbations. For that matter, Peter Chase's whistles are downright delightful, goofy, and sweet all at once. Slightly more oddball is "All Your Goodies Are Gone," which has a bit more upfront bite and some downright ...

This is Eilis second CD. She sings some newer songs and gives older songs her own stamp of individuality. All the Gaelic songs have a translation on the cd booklet - she wants everyone to understand the words! This CD will not fail to keep you listening , time after time..Press ReactionThe Living Tradition July/Aug 06Eilis Kennedy has one of the loveliest voices to recently emerge in Irish singing. Accompanied by a plethora of talented musicians, Kennedy's second album is ten tracks of wonderfully sung and arranged songs.

Focusing heavily on a traditional repertoire, Kennedy sings in both English and Irish, choosing songs that highlight her pure voice.

Beginning with 'Go From My Window', the English songs go on to include the tragic 'Fair Helen of Kirkconnel' and the melancholy 'Farewell to Tarwathie'. But lest you think this album is a depressing collection of ballads. Kennedy spices things up with some Bob Dylan in the form of 'Boots ...

Lunatics Without Skateboards started in 1988 when band members Manfred van Zadelhoff (bass) and John Frijn (lead vocals) met each other through 'demo trading'. Demo trading was a way of collecting music by trading tapes between fanatical metal-music fans. Before they met, Manfred played in 'Whiplash' and John in 'the Stray Bullets'. After a while they both got the idea to start a speed-metal band since that was their most favorite music. This was the first step in founding 'Lunatics Without Skateboards'. Former 'Whiplash' guitarplayer Dennis and former 'Stray Bullets' drummer Donovan and guitarplayer Joost joined the band. At that time Anthrax was a very popular band. As you probably know they wore short pants and liked skateboarding and a lot of bands followed their example. ...
