Dio: Ronnie James Dio (vocals); Craig Goldy (guitar); Claude Shnell (keyboards); Jimmy Bain (bass); Vinny Appice (drums). Additional personnel: The Mitchell Singing Boys (background vocals). Recorded at Village Recorder, Los Angeles, California. Dream Evil is by no means a departure from the Dio formula that was so successful for his first three solo albums. All of the elements that made them so successful are yet again retained here. However, what makes things different this time around is that Dio has more of a melodious side to him, which he puts use here rather than relying on the riffs and delivery he learned at the school of Sabbath. He even touches on the power ballad (a sure sign that the style had fully infiltrated metal) with "All the Fool Sailed Away." The title track and "Sunset Superman" also proved to be two of Dio's most well-known, and most loved songs in his massive catalog. Not an essential release, but one that diehard fans will be sure to want in their collection. ~ Rob Theakston By the mid-'80s Dio had become one of heavy metal's biggest concert draws. While such albums as HOLY DIVER and THE LAST IN LINE sold well (both were certified gold), it was Dio's bombastic and highly theatrical stage show that drew the attention of metalheads worldwide. For their fourth full-length release, 1987's DREAM EVIL, original guitarist Vivian Campbell had been replaced by Craig Goldie (Campbell would return as a hired gun in both Whitesnake and Def Leppard), signaling the band's first line-up change. While the album wasn't as stellar as the two aforementioned titles, such metallic dungeons and dragons epics as "All the Fools Sailed Away" and "Sunset Superman" are standouts. Better then holy Diver? THis album might be better then Holy Diver, but I'm not sure about it. It sounds a lot more to Rainbow, and that's a good thing. Metal on it's best for sure! Dio is the man (on the silver mountain)! Submitted by Wouter (Oss, Netherlands) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Worst DIO Period I can't believe that anyone would give this a 5 star rating. It's the worst release by the band. More of a pop sound than metal. It's the one disc of my DIO collection that I got rid of because I didn't like any of the songs. Submitted by reviewer (IN,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$7.29 DIO: Ronnie James Dio (vocals, keyboards); Vivian Campbell (guitar); Claude Shnell (keyboards); Jimmy Bain (bass); Vinny Appice (drums). Following the extremely warm reception given his self-named band's well-deserving debut album, Holy Diver, Ronnie James Dio figured there was no point in messing with a winning formula, and decided to play it safe with 1984's sophomore effort, The Last in Line -- with distinctly mixed results. Although technically cut from ...

Crowd reaction and participation have always been hallmarks of the hardcore and thrash genres. It's probably the ultimate goal of any music to entertain, to illicit some kind of response from the listener. But within these enclaves -- especially hardcore -- the musicians can become mouthpieces for the mob, their songs vessels for carrying a collective meaning. While that conduit's energy has been sapped somewhat by shifting allegiances and new influences both in and outside of loud rock, it's remained one of Hatebreed's guiding principles. This has ...

$14.15 I intended to record this cd on the road using technology which favors music ( a good microphone, my laptop and an M-Box). The concept has to do with a place where our souls can experience the quietness and restfulness-and for me this is that soundtrack. It's not a mandolin exercize or practice, but simply the enjoyment of playing. There are no arrangement, just songs that live in my unconscious.
