1990's BEHIND THE MASK found Fleetwood Mac entering their fourth decade of recording and was the band's first post-Lindsey Buckingham album. Replacing Buckingham were Billy Burnette, formerly of Mick Fleetwood's side project The Zoo, and ex-Bob Seger/Jackson Browne guitarist Rick Vito. These new members helped resurrect the Mac once more as they collaborated with old members in writing new songs. One of the best tracks on the album is the Tex-Mex "When The Sun Goes Down," co-written by Vito and Burnette.
Christine McVie proved to once again be the anchor in Fleetwood Mac, as a number of her songs formed the core of BEHIND THE MASK. These include a number of songs co-written with new husband Carlos Quintana, like "Skies the Limit" and "Save Me" (the band's first Top 40 hit of the '90s). In addition to writing with Rick Vito, Stevie Nicks offered "Freedom," a song co-written with Heartbreaker Mike Campbell. These were her last studio contributions to Fleetwood Mac before her departure from the band three years later.

Behind The Mask songs
$11.18 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's 2010 album, Beat the Devil's Tattoo, finds the band splitting the difference between the rootsy Americana of 2005's Howl and the return to fuzzed-out noise rock that was 2007's Baby 81. Having once again parted ways with original drummer Nick Jago, bassist Robert Levon Been and guitarist Peter Hayes seem to have found a renewed creative spark with replacement drummer ...

Behind The Mask songs
$5.99 This budget-priced split compilation is an interesting animal in several ways; first of all, it's a little weird for two labels to collaborate on a compilation album, though there's certainly nothing wrong with that. Stranger is the fact that, although Up's profile tends toward homemade electronica and Slabco's toward indie pop and rock, both labels are represented here by a roster almost equally divided between electro (Land of the Loops, Volume All*Star, Buckminster Fuzeboard) and rock (Modest Mouse, Sick Bees, Mike Johnson). Still, there's definitely nothing wrong with a little genre diversity. So how does the album sound? About like you'd expect, with the definite edge going to the electro crowd; Buckminster Fuzeboard and Land of the Loops are the class of that clique, with "Snap Clarity" and the trippy sample-fest "France," respectively. Rockers Dark Fantastic ...
| | Crickets Single Collections CD (2003)
Behind The Mask album
$8.79 This 2003 compilation contains singles released by the Crickets, about half with Buddy Holly and half without. The 20 tracks include "That'll Be The Day", "Oh Boy", "Not Fade Away", "Maybe Baby" and a version of "I Fought The Law".
The Crickets will always be best known as Buddy Holly's backup band, but they had a long, if somewhat less successful career on their own following Holly's ...
| | Bonnie Bramlett Roots, Blues & Jazz CD (2006)
Behind The Mask CD music
$13.35 No less than Ike Turner and Charlie Daniels have raving quotes in the packaging of the famed R&B/soul/jazz belter's rip-roaring, funky, and swinging mix of originals and standards from the worlds of rock and jazz -- but the former Ikette could have had numerous other legends chime in. She's worked with 'em all, singing with Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, George Harrison, Leon Russell, and Carly Simon and having tunes recorded by everyone from the Staple Singers to Hank Williams, Jr. Although she returned from a long musical hiatus with 2002's Nashville date I'm Still the Same, this collection signals her full-scale return to the soul sounds that inspired her jazz fame in St. Louis and rock notoriety in L.A. The way she bursts from the gate, rockin' on "Love the One You're With" and jamming on her edgy original blues number "I Can Laugh About It Now," the listener is prepared for a fiery party -- but then she pulls a low-key seductive jazz rabbit out of her hat. And not just on standards, either, though she pays homage to greats like Cannonball Adderley and classic dates like "Harlem Nocturne." She cleverly turns Chuck Berry's "No Particular Place to Go" into a cool, organic meditation, and lets "I'm Confessin'" simmer in a dreamy jazz blues stew. There's a sweet balance throughout between graceful reflections like "That Lucky Old Sun" and swinging barnburners like her own "Gotcha," with blistering twists on Sam Cooke ...
