A collaboration between ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and soon-to-be-ex-New Order singer Bernard Sumner, Electronic released one of the last great electro-pop albums before the impact of grunge made the idea of keyboard-based bands with both dance club and Top 40 tendencies seem rather quaintly old-fashioned. The arrangements give equal weight to ticking sequencers, strumming acoustic guitars, and Sumner's boyish vocals, and so the overall feel is not at all unlike the brighter parts of New Order's BROTHERHOOD and TECHNIQUE albums.
Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant sings on two tracks, "Patience of a Saint," and the sublime, dreamy single "Getting Away With It," one of the best things any of the three main participants have ever been involved with. "Get the Message" ratchets up the tension a few degrees, while elsewhere the band explores the stoned, lazy groove of the then-fashionable Madchester sound.

Electronic Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) One can't be better. One more proof that brit-pop is and always will be around. When the 80s/90s turnaround appeared to be completely controlled by those Seattle-jerk bands led by people who think that long hair and ripped trousers are the latest fashion for modern musicians, then three old dinosaurs from the 80s pop culture get together and the result is... Well, u gotta listen to this, fella! Submitted by gottfrid (Brazil) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Who can as for anything more? A collaboration album from the members of New Order(Sumner) and the Smiths(Marr), and few songs dones with Pet Shop Boys - The greatest band from the 80's. Most tracks sound very similar to works done by NO toward the late 80's. Submitted by a reviewer (Seattle, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Electronic CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Kraftwerk Computer World CD (1981)
Electronic album
$9.25 Kraftwerk's music had always been completely based in technology, all the while reflecting a healthy fear of global automation. This album met that fear head on, from the plaintive musical theme and lonesome Everyman protagonism of "Computer Love" to the chilling "Home Computer," which foretells the PC revolution via the group's trademark marriage of relentless, melodic electronic music and stark, touching human imagery. Other landmark compositions include the infectious, oft-sampled "Numbers" and "Pocket Calculator," a cut which stands out even on this album as a milestone in quirky, Teutonic synth-pop.
The surprise album from the German electronic pioneer scientists surfaced in 1981, three years after their final monumental "Trans Europe Express" album. In the US, they shifted gears by electing to record for Warner Bros after many years with EMI (where they remained outside the US). "Computer World" was a revelation in that the band's sound was so totally refined and perfected, sounding almost other worldly for the times....and that notion still holds true on listening to it today, as the tracks seem to have a cryogenic ...
| | New Order Substance CDs (1987)
Electronic CD music
$19.15 The 2-LP set of SUBSTANCE, a collection of 12" remixes of New Order's most popular pre-1987 singles, is wholly contained on the first CD. The second CD features the B-sides of these 12" singles (most are unavailable anywhere else), none of which were included on the LP or cassette.
New Order always shone brightest as a singles band, and this stellar two-disc set collects most of the a- and b-sides from singles released between the band's inception and 1987. "Ceremony," a leftover from the band's past as Joy Division, opens the proceedings. It is followed by 150-odd minutes of material that, through the 1980s, set the standard for dance music. Classics like "Everything's Gone Green," "Perfect Kiss" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" appear next to alternate versions of the stunning "Temptation" and "Confusion." Also included is "True Faith," which, along with "1963," was recorded especially for this collection. Opening the second disc is another Joy Division ...

| | Electronic Raise The Pressure CD (1996)
Electronic songs
$9.55 The Victorian pastoral cover clashes nicely with the band name and album title, which is the whole point of Electronic. Originally a side-project duo from Manchester, pairing Johnny Marr (ex-Smiths) with Bernard Sumner (ex-New Order), Electronic had grown into nearly a complete band by the time of this sophomore release, with keyboardist Karl Bartos and Marr sharing writing credits on about half of the album.
For most of RAISE THE PRESSURE, acoustic guitars meld with sprightly keyboards on songs such as "Until the End of Time" and "Dark Angel," in a style reminiscent of the last couple of New Order albums. "If You've Got Love," with its Hi-NRG beat and gospel backing vocals, actually resembles ...
| | Pet Shop Boys Please CD (1986)
Electronic album
$11.69 In 1986, post-disco synth-dance pop was commercially waning, with even Madonna moving towards a more conventional pop sound with her single "Live to Tell," and the real hardcore stuff was reduced to an underground that had been dubbed "Hi-NRG." That is, until the Pet Shop Boys, ex-music journalist Neil Tennant and synth player Chris Lowe, made the jump from that underground to the pop charts with the gloriously sleazy "West End Girls" and "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)." Unlike most similar dance-pop records, however, PLEASE ...
| | Electronic Twisted Tenderness CD (1999)
Electronic CD music
$9.95 Starting off with a sample from Meat Beat Manifesto's PRIME AUDIO SOUP, these founding members of British bands The Smiths and New Order (Johnny Marr and Bernard Sumner, respectively) churn out soothing pop melodies. They come from two different styles of music: Sumner is more dance-based, and Marr more into alternative rock, but both made music that was emotional.
Produced by Arthur Baker in a matter of weeks, this album sounds raw, indicating that the band have been freed from the burden of expectation that surrounded previous Electronic releases. "Make It Happen," filled with yearning and confusion, sets the somber mood for this album. "Vivid," the first single, sports a harmonica throughout. The surprise on this is the Steve Winwood-penned "Can't Find My Way Home," which features a little of the Moog keyboard stylings from the original. The title track is reminiscent of Electronica's first release, with breakbeat-style drums and keyboard orchestrations.

| | Wendy Rule Wolf Sky CD (2006)
Electronic music CDs
$24.05 The release of Wendy Rule's fifth studio album, The Wolf Sky, firmly establishes her as one of Melbourne's most uniquely gifted and prolific artists. A passionate union of her incredible voice - moving from soaring heights to intimate whispers - and her beautifully dark and visionary lyrics, the album is strong, Earthy and Shamanic. More so than any of her previous studio offerings, it celebrates and reflects her unique live performances - a combination of music, ritual and story that continues to entice an ever growing audience into her otherworldy realm.Ten years ago, when Wendy's first album, Zero, was released to critical acclaim and strong sales, she had already established a strong local following. Having sung in various jazz outfits since her early twenties, she was an accomplished performer, but her original music brought in an entirely different element. It was now not only her voice, but a passionate commitment to exploring the depth of the human experience through Magic, ritual and poetry that was captivating audiences. Through her musical collaboration with cellist Rachel Samuel and pianist Craig Patterson, Wendy's music was evolving into something truly special. Zero was followed in 1998 by her second studio album, Deity. Wendy and her band toured Australia extensively, including two tours with the legendary 60's performer, Donovan. In 1999 Wendy conceived, produced and performed in the theatrical production An Underworld Journey. A third album, World Between Worlds followed in 2000. In keeping with her previous albums, this was a deeply personal work, exploring a time of turmoil and sadness. Her moving songs were placed in a warm, evocative sound-world, the lush keyboards of previous records replaced by the acoustic beauty of guitars, strings and percussion. 2001 saw Wendy finally take her talents overseas, touring initially to the UK, Europe and the USA and then returning in October to the USA just after September 11. Wendy arrived in New York, a city beautiful, but sad and grieving. It was during this trip that she wrote the material for her fourth album, The Lotus Eaters, in a process of meditation and sorrow. Released in 2003, this extraordinary collection of richly emotive Siren songs flows on an oceanic soundscape of strings, vibraphone and guitar. In between national and international tours, Wendy has worked on a number of side projects, including the release of a live album of jazz standards. ...
