But if you're searching for the best known ZZ Top tracks, GREATEST HITS is your best bet. Just about every radio staple that the trio penned is represented here, such as the '80s synth-meets-blues-rock classics "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp ... Full DescriptionDressed Man," "Legs," "Pearl Necklace," and "Sleeping Bag," plus such older favorites as "Tush," "Cheap Sunglasses," and "La Grange."
Although it began as an album-oriented, hard-edged blues band, ZZ Top had amassed quite a number of Top 40 hits by the early '90s. All are featured on 1992's 18-track GREATEST HITS compilation, making it a more comprehensive career overview than 1977's shorter THE BEST OF ZZ TOP. The only problem is that it doesn't contain a single selection from such early ZZ Top classics as ZZ TOP'S FIRST ALBUM, RIO GRANDE MUD, or TEJAS.
1983 album from Warner Brothers, packed with 18 tracks.
ZZ Top: Billy Gibbons (vocals, guitar); Dusty Hill (vocals, keyboards, bass); Frank Beard (drums).

zz top's golden age. man do i love this band or what? other great trios are: rush, the police, cream, the jimi hendrix experience, grand funk railroad, E.L.P, green day and my favorite trio: triumph, my dad was a huge zz top fan even though he was more a beatle guy. i played him la grange he went crazy. the problem is that in the six pack box set they remastered the drums sounding like afterburner outtakes!. now the cars, girls, beards, furry guitars and texas boogie is so cool for the time the prblem is, will zz make another album? more or less. they will be joining super producer rick 'slayer' rubin for another album in 2009 or 2010. until then fire up the BBQ!. Greatest Hits album
$17.19 Queen began life in 1972, formed by guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, and bassist Tim Staffell. When Staffell left, May and Taylor elected to form a new band with vocalist Freddie Mercury. Bassist John Deacon completed the lineup. Their self-titled debut fused 70s glam and late 60s heavy rock, and their second album fulfilled their early promise. SHEER HEART ATTACK consolidated their commercial standing. In 1975, they completed the seven-minute mini-opera "Bohemian Rhapsody." The startlingly unique track topped the UK charts for an astonishing nine weeks. The attendant album, A NIGHT AT THE OPERA reached number 1 ...
| | Creedence Clearwater Revival Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits CD (1976)
Greatest Hits CD music
$10.85 Digitally remastered by Gary Hobish (1994, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Guided, perhaps, by musical snobbery or roots-rock phobia, some people inexplicably don't like Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the kings of earnest country-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip. But their music stands the test of time with a vengeance. For the doubtful listener, this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering abundance.
Though they produced several excellent albums, Creedence was predominantly a singles band, and CHRONICLE compiles many of their biggest hits. From the slowly building saunter of "Suzie Q" and the spooky, R&B-soaked "I Put a Spell on You" to the fierce "Fortunate Son" and the swampy blues of "Run Through the Jungle," CHRONICLE features the ensemble's signature tunes. Beautifully melancholy songs "Who'll Stop the Rain" and "Someday Never Comes" play off sunny, melodic anthems "Down on the Corner" and "Lookin' Out My Back Door," fully revealing the band's ...
| | Phil Collins Hits CD (1998)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$13.65 East, Leland Sklar, Cornelius Mims, John Giblin, Freddie Washington (bass); Sheila E.(percussion); Peter Gabriel, Sting, Marva King (background vocals).
In the early '80s, Collins took a break from the helm of Genesis to inaugurate a solo career that abandoned his group's art-rock agenda for a mainstream pop approach. In the ensuing years, the king of Nice Guy Pop established himself as one of the world's premier top 40 balladeers, as evidenced by the wall-to-wall hits that make up the balance of this appropriately titled collection. HITS walks the listener through the smooth, well-produced Collins hits that have worked their way into the collective consciousness of radio listeners (even casual ones) over the years. There are majestic power ballads ("I Wish It Would Rain") to light-hearted, infectious pop-funk ("Sussudio") and moody atmospheric pieces ("In the Air Tonight") HITS represents the full range ...
| | Sultans Of Swing: The Very Best Of Dire Straits CD (1998)
Greatest Hits songs
$9.99 Also includes material from Mark Knopfler's side project, The Notting Hillbillies.
Additional personnel includes: Sting, Jeff Porcaro, Joop de Korte.
All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
This solid collection is a compelling career overview of one of rock's most distinctive groups. Led by Mark Knopfler, whose deadpan vocal style and stunning guitar technique characterize the band's sound, Dire Straits burst on the scene in 1978 with "Sultans of Swing." This VERY BEST OF begins there (even amid the ensemble's later hits, the lead-off track's clean shuffle rhythm and minor-key melody still dazzles) and continues all the way to cuts from the group's 1991 release, ON EVERY STREET, and their 1993 live outing, ON THE NIGHT.
The Dylan-esque narrative of "Romeo and Juliet," from MAKING MOVIES, is one of the early highlights here. At the ...
| | Bob Seger Greatest Hits CD (1994)
Greatest Hits album
$12.55 Detroit has produced more than its share of great music: from jazz stars like Hank, Thad & Elvin Jones; to the Motown stable of vocal artists, and legendary rhythm players Benny Benjamin and James Jamerson. Not to mention a whole lot of hard funk and primal metal, everyone from Funkadelic and Ted Nugent, to Iggy & The Stooges and the MC5--hard driving, rugged rock and roll. Put it all together with a touch of pop, and a lot of soul, and you've got Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band.
It's easy to divine Seger's influence on the music of Bruce Springsteen, and draw parallels with the vocal style of Van Morrison. The epic themes of Seger's characters on "Night Moves" certainly parallel those of the folk heroes who populate Springsteen songs (though he began developing his menagerie a good decade before the Boss). The chant-like, testifying cadences of Seger's blowtorch voice, and his predilection for gospelish motifs, puts one in mind of the mighty Celt's visionary flights.
And as the fine GREATEST HITS makes clear, Bob Seger's influence on contemporary roots music is enormous. A song such as "Like A ...
| | U2 Best Of 1980-1990 CD (1999)
Greatest Hits CD music
$10.39 U2 burst onto the scene at the onset of the '80s with a majestic, uplifting, earnest approach and a unique textural sound that endeared them to fans and critics alike. They spent the rest of the decade growing up in public, solidifying their status as post-punk icons, marrying the good intentions of old-school alternative rock with the epic sonic scale of classic '70s rockers, never sounding less than totally original and never pausing for a hits compilation--until 1998. BEST OF offers a good representation of the complex body of work that made the band a legend.
Fittingly, the album begins with the debut's "I Will Follow," a statement of commitment to pursuing truth and spirituality despite continual and inevitable misgivings. "Desire" mates Bono's lyrical fervor with a modified Bo Diddley beat to fine effect. New world meets old on the bluesy B.B. King collaboration "When Love Comes to Town." Closing things out, "All ...
