What turned out to be the last Al Jourgensen/Paul Barker project of worthwhile note -- in Ministry or out of it -- was very much in keeping with the Revolting Cocks' self-proclaimed role as the joke band of the Wax Trax-associated scene. Admittedly, not everything worked as such -- jokes work best if the music that goes with it is interesting and holds the attention, which was always a bit of a problem with RevCo. However, as a major label debut and final bow all at once, Linger Ficken' Good is often entertaining and sometimes utterly, ridiculously wonderful. Most notable is another devolved cover version -- after more or less tackling Olivia Newton-John's "Physical," this time around they did a much more recognizable take on Rod Stewart's disco hit "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" Keeping the pace but adding some sleazy horns and organ in place of the original synth melody, Chris Connelly and Jourgensen split the verse/chorus duties; Connelly's Scottish, sleepy suaveness doesn't forget the humor, as several lyrical tweaks involving rubbers and KY jelly make clear. Nearly everything else, the kicking "Crackin' Up" aside, is basic if okay-enough time-killer material that won't surprise anyone familiar with the Jourgensen/Barker vision of things, concentrating more on the dank dancefloor stuff rather than the thrash, while Connelly acquits himself well enough. The album starts on a weird note, with none other than Timothy Leary doing a William Burroughs impersonation on "Gila Copter" -- why they couldn't call in Burroughs to work with them directly again is unclear -- but the final title track makes for a funny conclusion. Over a finger-snapping swing/jump blues arrangement, various voices ask "Who's your favorite Cock?" while another uncredited person proceeds to question and trash the band as a whole. And why not? ~ Ned Raggett

Linger Ficken Good And Other Barnyard Oddities album
$9.58 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and ...

Linger Ficken Good And Other Barnyard Oddities songs
$10.39 Like the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise, GLEE became more than a TV show when several of its songs cracked the Hot 100, including the number four hit "Don't Stop Believing." That song kicks off this soundtrack, the first in a series of albums cataloging the music performed by the show's cast. Not all GLEE members are created equal--some cast mates are far better actors than singers--but this soundtrack has enough star power to keep things trucking along, ...
| | Nirvana Bleach CD (1989) Deluxe; Deluxe Edition
Linger Ficken Good And Other Barnyard Oddities album
$13.19 With a sludgy, chainsaw guitar sound that owes as much to early Black Sabbath as to Kurt Cobain's heroes The Melvins, whose drummer puts in an appearance here, Nirvana emerges from Seattle's underground scene as standard-bearers of a style that embraces the anger and energy of punk alongside the thick, muddy sonic attack favored by early '70s proto-metal bands. Cobain's lyrics are fueled by outrage and self-loathing, combining literary flair with a direct, visceral quality that makes him a viable candidate for the John-Lennon-of-Gen X award.
Nirvana's debut album showcases what sounds more like a force of nature than a rock band. The unrelenting fervor with which the group delivers these 13 tunes is almost frightening. There is also a strong melodic flair that leavens the ferocity occasionally, ...
| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Linger Ficken Good And Other Barnyard Oddities CD music
$8.99 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with ...

Linger Ficken Good And Other Barnyard Oddities music CDs
$14.55 The Seventh House came out almost four years after IQ's previous studio album, Subterranea. In light of this CD, it appears that the critically acclaimed 1997 concept album was the band's creative peak, which does not mean The Seventh House is weak. The general feeling of the album makes it ...
