FROM THE CRADLE won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. It was also nominated for Album Of The Year. Some 30 years after cutting BLUESBREAKERS with John Mayall, Slowhand is back--and he's plugged in, too. From the ... Full DescriptionElmore James-styled slide grunge that heralds Leroy Carr's classic "Blues Before Sunrise," to his sweet, pearly tones on an agonizingly slow "Third Degree," it's clear that FROM THE CRADLE really is your parents' Eric Clapton.
Nearly every album Clapton's ever done has had a suggestion of his roots. But there's more than a suggestion of blues on impassioned, unhinged solos like "Five Long Years," "It Hurts Me Too" and "Someday After A While"--Clapton betrays a childlike pleasure in coming out from behind his pop persona, and the joy is infectious.
That's because FROM THE CRADLE is recorded live...that is to say, everyone at once, with no instrumental or vocal overdubs (save for the sweet dobro obbligatos on an old-timey sounding "How Long Blues"). The slower tempos, like a lowdown "Sinner's Prayer" and the acoustic "Driftin'" really showcase his growth as a vocalist (particularly that bullfrog groan, by way of Muddy Waters, whom he honors with an especially faithful cover of "Standin' Round Crying"). And when Clapton leaves Earth orbit on Willie Dixon's "Groaning The Blues," you get the feeling Eric may never leave the blues again. More, please.
Recorded at Olympic Studios Barnes, London, England.

Rolling Stone (5/13/99, p.61) - Included in Rolling Stone's "Essential Recordings of the 90's." Rolling Stone (10/20/94, p.141) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...This is the plugged-in, all-blues album that old school Clapton freaks have been moaning and groaning for ever since the guitarist gave his two weeks' notice to John Mayall in July 1966..." Q (10/94, p.107) - 3 Stars - Good - "...The playing is impeccable and Clapton's voice...remains a thing of affecting simplicity..." Down Beat (12/94, pp.48-49) - 4.5 Stars - Very Good Plus - "...His passion seems authentic, unrehearsed, and there's a sort of moral earnestness to his plea for romantic reconciliation...his struggle with loneliness...and his soul-wrenching rejection of sadness....Clapton's slide guitar explodeslike the Second Coming of Elmore James..." Hide Description Eric Clapton From The Cradle Songs From The Cradle Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Highly recommended Straight forward, honest and moving. Clapton's singing is sometimes a bit forced but his leads are wonderful. More technically complete than soulfull, you'll find yourself in a bluey kind of way none-the-less.

Pure blues Clapton finally puts together an album that is pure blues from start to end. It has echoes of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, JB Lenoir, Elmore James and Willy Dixon - and Clapton has even changed his singing voice so that he can sound like those guys! The guitar playing is very soulful and authentic, and his arrangements do justice to all the covers of the classic blues tracks throughout the album. This is 100% pure unadulterated blues! From The Cradle album
$9.59 Eric Clapton's live performance on MTV's strip-down-the-rockers show allowed the heavily-blues-influenced guitarist a chance to show off another, underrated side of his talent--his voice.
It's especially interesting to hear Clapton in an acoustic setting, because he made his mark as one of the early proponents of high-decibel rock. Here, sorting through numerous blues standards by the likes of Robert Johnson and Leadbelly, Clapton gives a lesson in technique, style and ...
| | Eric Clapton Pilgrim CD (1998)
From The Cradle CD music
$10.95 PILGRIM was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Pop Album. "My Father's Eyes" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Since donning an Armani suit back in the decadent '80s, Eric Clapton's music has become more polished as he's gotten older. Despite recording the all-blues FROM THE CRADLE collection in 1994, E.C. has either gone unplugged, collaborated with silky-smooth soulsters such as Babyface, or dabbled with current electronic trends. PILGRIM finds Slowhand doing all of the above on his first album of original material in nearly a decade. Unlike many older artists dipping their toes into the electronic pool, Clapton and co-producer Simon Climie's restrained use of programming gilds rather than overwhelms these original numbers.
In a welcome turn, Clapton wrote or co-wrote every song with the exception of Bob Dylan's "Born In Time" and "Going Down Slow," a St. Louis Jimmy blues nugget. Joined by Babyface on the former, Clapton ...
| | Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced? CD (1967)
From The Cradle music CDs
$11.05 This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released in the U.K., featuring the same songs but in the original British track order). The Experience Hendrix label is controlled by Hendrix's family.
The 1997 reissue also adds a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished photos, the original LP liner notes and song lyrics.
Recorded in late 1966 and early 1967 at Olympic Studios, London, England.
Jimi Hendrix's debut recording was an instant classic, and is as startling today as when it first hit the streets in 1967. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? ...

$17.25 Recorded between 1970 and 1980. Includes liner notes by John McDermott.
Digitally remastered by Suha Gur (Universal Music Group Studios).
Prior to Eric Clapton's pop- and MTV-driven mid-'80s work, he spent the '70s and early '80s playing languid, singer-songwriter soft rock evocative of J.J. Cale and Don Edwards. But Clapton always kept one foot in the blues of his youth. BLUES brings this material together in one place and throughout, Slowhand taps into an inner spirituality that does these blues standards well.
The first disc contains studio recordings that include tributes to many influences including Elmore James ("The Sky Is Crying") and Willie Dixon ("Meet Me [Down At the Bottom]"). Most impressive is a stripped-down version of Little Walter's "Mean Old World," in which Clapton and Duane Allman duet using National steel and slide guitars. ...
