"The Seventh Seal" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
What happens when rowdy rockers get older? Hopefully, if they're like Eddie, Sammy and the boys, they can achieve a BALANCE between the fire from their youth and the more serious demands of maturing rock stars.
The struggle for BALANCE is apparent in songs about strained relationships, drugs and greed. The topics of Sammy's lyrics range from personal turmoil ("I need a change, I need it quick before it makes me sick...I don't like what I've been told I'm feelin'") to apocalyptic doom ("Broken now I can't help but feel someone cracked the seventh seal"). However, the band still kicks when Sammy shouts about the virtues of drugs and avarice in "Amsterdam" and "Big Fat Money."
Supporting this are Eddie's familiar warm tones and Alex's big-footed stomp. Tune into "Amsterdam" to hear Eddie's goofy, bearded grin, and that good-feelin' Van Halen rock. Yet although they offer three instrumental tracks, they no longer flaunt unbridled talent just because it's there. Instead of using songs as mere vehicles for instrumental pyrotechnics, the Van Halen virtuosity has been balanced out to serve the song, and it's a fine BALANCE.

 Very good cd.
Overall, I really liked this album. Maybe not their best, but CERTAINLY not their worst. Unlike most others, I do like 'Big Fat Money' though. One of my favorites, in fact, on the album.

exactly what u expect from van halen great music
This cd is great,as always van halen has ripping guitars in the song don't tell me what love can do but also has soft melody of not enough and of course can't stop loving u,al in all a great cd for any van halen fan.

Ok folks,I'been listning to VH stuff since 82
this album complete the circle of the
band. Even today my friends says that this is the best album ever made by them.I think it's more mature.
There are some songs on the album with piano that sounds great..,and we all
know that Edward can play the guitar. ;) royb 5150.norway

Ok...
This album is probably their worst since Fair Warning. It features powerful good rock songs, but sappy ballads and the awful Big Fat Money was a disappointment to all VH fans, making this the cd not ta get. The album is very addictive at first, but you lose interest. And why did eddie cut his hair? Perfect example of bad change
