| | Dwight Yoakam Dwight Live CD Dwight Yoakam Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
DWIGHT LIVE was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "A Thousand Miles From Nowhere" was nominated for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
A straight presentation of Dwight Yoakam playing his greatest hits in concert, Dwight Live is a solid record, highlighted by a long, intense take on "Suspicious Minds." Nevertheless, nothing on the album improves on the original recorded versions, making Dwight Live essential for devoted fans only. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Rolling Stone (9/7/95, p.72) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...Instead of reciting the hits in the manner of most country acts, Yoakam and band hit harder and go deeper in concert, attacking with a recklessness that recognizes no distinction between honkytonk spirit and rock & roll attitude..." Q (9/95, p.122) - 3 Stars - Good - "...He has a hard, dry grip on the honky-tonk traditions that others looked in danger of forgetting. And from the sound of this album, he is not letting go..." NME (Magazine) (7/15/95, p.49) - 6 (out of 10) - "...a reminder of his sparky style as he reads from the songbooks of Buck Owens and Elvis and lets rip with a Kentucky yodel or two..." Dwight Live album
$15.09 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her heart out here. The opener, ...
| | Brad Paisley American Saturday Night CD (2009)
Dwight Live CD music
$10.95 An American saturday night is not an unusual topic for a country song but Brad Paisley's celebration is. Paisley sees a typical weekend night as a cultural collision of French kisses, Italian Ices, Canadian bacon and margaritas, a place where Mexican and Dutch beers chill side by side in a bucket of ice. If he leans too heavily on labels, referring to those beers by brand name, it's merely a reflection of Paisley's uncanny knack for capturing the casual contemporary details of American life at the tail end of the 2000s. It's not just the pile up of iPhones and international video chats on "Welcome to the Future," the first country anthem of the Obama era, it's how he'll ...

| | Patty Loveless Mountain Soul II CD (2009)
Dwight Live songs
$14.55 Patty Loveless' MOUNTAIN SOUL II is not a strict sequel to its 2001 predecessor. Whereas the former album was chock-full of bluegrass tunes both historical and contemporary, the sequel is a far more diverse collection that includes traditional songs, country music classics, and some new originals--and yes, there are a couple of bluegrass tunes in the mix. Loveless and her husband, producer Emory Gordy, Jr., recruited a stellar cast of players and backing vocalists, and wrote some stellar tunes to put alongside hallmark favorites on this mostly acoustic date. The guests are a star-studded list of session players and singers including Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Rebecca Lynn Howard, steel boss Al Perkins, and fiddler Stuart Duncan, to mention only a few. The set opens with a mountain version of Harlan Howard's standard "Busted," featuring no less than bluegrass legend Del McCouryon on guitar and lead chorus vocal and ...
