Arguably Mitchell's best studio recording since MINGUS, TAMING THE TIGER picks up where TURBULENT INDIGO left off, but there's a notable progression, both musical and lyrical. The biggest reason may be Mitchell's grasping of the production reins. Gone are the slick excesses of bassist Larry Klein's production. TAMING THE TIGER achieves a unity of vision, a fact that also owes to the arrangements' focus on Mitchell's own guitar and synthesizer work. The recurrent sonic texture here is an almost Zawinul-esque tapestry of electronic sounds; silvery synth and guitar-synth form an attractive latticework over which Mitchell lays her jazzy, unpredictable vocal melodies.
Though she's grown a bit crankier as she's gotten older, when she lambasts contemporary pop culture (the title track) and attacks Victorian mores ("Face Lift") she doesn't come off as curmudgeonly as she did on the diatribes of her previous album. There's an airiness and joy to TAMING THE TIGER that had been missing in Mitchell's music for a long time. Even the most cerebral tunes have a winning lightness.

Joni Mitchell Taming The Tiger Songs Taming The Tiger Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Joni's last new recordings...... This was Joni Mitchell's last collection of new recordings and
it took me a while to get into the
new guitar sounds but when I put it
in the cd mix years after its release, it just stands out as
some of her best stuff over the past
20 years. Her vocals have such a burnished quality, deep & soulful with
a jazz finish, A one of a kind singer.
Just the way she plugs on the strings
is so unusual. Always with a different
look on life, shes created some of
modern music's masterpieces over the
years and on this recordings shes not
trying to be anything but classy, personal and interesting all at the
same time, great music with beautiful
arrangements(especially the horns, they color everything they touch), many many highlights all the way through, its a shame Joni decided to
hang it up on this one, she should be
recording her own stuff and putting
it out here and there on the internet
when she pleases and not deal with
record companies. Movies soundtracks
would kill for her intimate vocals
and arrangements. I'm glad shes putting
out her songs on these newer sample
collections as well as the nice take
on standards and reworking her older
stuff on orchestrations. Submitted by littlebibs (Kingston, NH on the lake USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The show is about to begin...step right up! What a wonderful record! If you loved 'Hejira' and 'Turbulent Indigo', then this album will be one of your favourites. This cd has a jazzy atmosphere. Joni's voice is so delightful now: sweet as bourbon whiskey. Stand out tracks on this album are 'Love puts on a new face', 'No apologies' and 'Stay in Touch' (I just love that saxophone!). Those songs are even better than the ones on Hejira. I hope that Joni will continue making wonderful lyrics and melodies. She is a legend! $11.39 Talksicc is a hip-hop group/company based on The Big Island of Hawaii. Along with other businessmen, artists, producers, and a positive street team, Tonic and Pete-Nutt head the front of this movement with goals and aspirations of opening a wider hip-hop market in Hawaii. They work as a record company: producing artists and developing their image into a marketable product. Founded and now residing on the Big Island for the past six years, Talksicc has helped pioneer, teach, and live hip-hop in Hawaii. The group consists of 7 main rap artists and features other talented artists as well as male and female vocalists. By the sound of their music, this is not your average hip-hop group you would expect out of the Aloha State. Members in this large and expanding group are from various places around the United States and of coarse, Hawaii. Throughout the six years of building and constructing, Talksicc has put out several EP releases and bootleg copies of their past material. "Work Your Hustle Volumes 1&2" were the EP's that caught the buzz around the islands. As the buzz of an up and coming local group began seducing the ears of listeners, they continued to work harder to produce more music for the fans. Doing their own graphics, finding artists, producing, recording, mixing, and promoting became an everyday job (along with their families) for group members. During the struggle, problems escalated amongst racist and envious bouncers, bitter owners, and jealous people. Talksicc had to learn how to cope with the other side of the business. Through the journey, they encountered numerous political and prejudice problems that were easily overcome by their professionalism. As pride would show it, on July 2nd 2002, Talksicc released their first pressed album entitled "ColdWorld." This album will cross all boundary lines in the Hawaiian music industry. It will remind fans and other artists that music is self-expression, so it's not illegal ...

$15.19 “He’s in his room!” a family term for my occupying the front room of the house where these songs were written or learnt. It’s also where music and fishing gear claim equal rights to stay, and only when health and safety procedures intervene to find some fishy –related pong or, untangle a child from a web of microphone leads does anything change! A lot of listening goes on here away from the television and my attention since the late 1990`s has been drawn to traditional music and especially songs and singers from the south east of England. Sadly this is no longer common place so a bit of determined effort is needed to find this stuff (field and studio recordings on records c.d`s and tapes, usually acquired from friends and second-hand record shops). It has been a real wonder for me especially when there is a sense of familiarity with some songs, a distant memory jogged, or perhaps it is ...
