| | Frank Sinatra September Of My Years CD Frank Sinatra Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
This 1965 collection of autumnal compositions, arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins, shows Sinatra looking back on his life and marveling quietly over his loves and losses. The mood is one of reflection and introspection. Even though he would go on recording for decades to come, Sinatra was at a point in his life where he had enough history behind him for 19 men, and his experiences come out in the heartfelt renderings of the songs here.
While SEPTEMBER OF MY YEARS is best known for the wry, bittersweet "It Was A Very Good Year," there's much more to this album. The title song is an evocative summing up of the excesses and naivete of youth, leading up to the hard-earned wisdom of middle age. Kurt Weill's haunting "September Song" finds Sinatra making fine use of his storytelling abilities in service of an older man's cautionary tale. Upon this album's release, it was obvious that Sinatra still had many very good years to come.
1998 reissue for the album considered to be one of the lounge singer's greatest triumphs of the 60s, capturing how Sinatra was at the time of his 50th birthday. Originally released in 1965 & a Grammy Winner for album of the year. 13 tracks. Reprise/Warner.
Digitally remastered by Keith Blake.
Includes liner notes by Stan Cornyn.
Personnel includes: Frank Sinatra (vocals); Gordon Jenkins (conductor).

The One, The Only It just does not get better than this. This is Sinatra at his best. This is music the way it was meant to be. The arrangments, the band, it's magic. I have this on album and cd. Do yourself and someone you love a favor: buy this cd, light the candles, open a bottle of wine, sit back, and enjoy! Submitted by a reviewer (Newburgh, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$13.00 Vijay Iyer has captured the ears of critics and listeners like only a handful of the most elite jazz pianists since McCoy Tyner, Cecil Taylor, or Misha Mengelberg initially burst onto the scene. There's no other single player who sounds even remotely like him, few who can match his inventive and whimsical sense of play or seriousness, and absolutely nobody who presents the stunning, highly intelligent music he dishes out. ...

Although he departed from this realm much too early, pianist/composer Don Grolnick left a legacy of great jazz. This documentation of one of his final performances finds Grolnick in the company of some of his closest musical friends. Michael and Randy Brecker, Don Alias, and Peter Erskine performed and recorded with the pianist countless times, never more wholeheartedly as they do here. Filling out the rest of the stellar ensemble is multi-instrumentalist Marty Ehrlich, trombonist Robin Eubanks, and bassist Peter Washington.
Grolnick's warm personality came through in every musical situation in which he participated. Here, compositions ...

September Of My Years
$10.15 Manish Tandon is a calm, cool and collected young man with more than the average going on in his head. His focus is his music. It is what occupies most of his time and what fills most of his gray matter. It is what moves him through life and keeps him whole. If you speak to him for more than five minutes you'll start to hear ideas and thoughts about living and making music with his band, Butterthief, a four piece rock outfit from New York City.Tandon grew up surfing and skateboarding on a healthy dose of post-punk, straight-edge hardcore and classic rock on the beaches and cul de sacs of Southern California. After graduating from UCLA he spent a year in San Francisco, then onto New York City, bound for Columbia University. Having half a brain and the good sense of embracing eastern philosophy rather than a drug habit, he took his easygoing attitude and focused manner with him.And so by the time he pulled together what would soon become Butterthief, there was a clear sense of how it would sound. It would sound Big, like his ideas. Vast, like the ocean, yet it would reach out and draw you in, rather than hold you down. It would harness energy rather than express aggression, and that alone would set Butterthief apart from many of its contemporaries. The band is now a thriving entity on the New York scene and it is the conduit for Tandon's vision. His co-conspirators drummer Joey Repice, and guitarist Aram Bajakian share it without a doubt. There is the expected and healthy push and pull of moods and tones--Manish, for example, more often leaning towards the metaphorical major key, wanting to keep it upbeat and positive, while Aram, a protégé of legendary Jazz musician Yusef Lateef, looks to his darker avant garde influences. The expected tension creates magic moments ...
