Full DescriptionNick Cave's history of great songs but uneven albums, THE BEST OF NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS truly lives up to its name, condensing his most intriguing songs into one excellent collection. Though it lacks a chronological sequence, the seemingly random track listing works surprisingly well, from the opening Van Morrison-gone-bad raucousness of "Deanna" to the final chaotic blast of "From Her to Eternity."
Though the compilation highlights Cave's penchant for morbid narratives, it also includes disarmingly sincere ballads like "Into My Arms," "Are You the One That I've Been Waiting For?," and "Straight to You," with the Bad Seeds providing unusually subtle backing. Cave's trademark dark theatricality is still at the fore, however, on bleak yet driving songs such as "The Mercy Seat," "Tupelo," "Do You Love Me?," and, of course, the sinister classic "Red Right Hand."

Best Of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. album
$11.55 In his trademark bottomless voice, Nick Cave narrates one tragic, violent tale after another. In excruciating detail, he examines the fine apects of murder, varying viewpoints between victims and killers, and investigating the dialogue between them from many angles. MURDER BALLADS, his ninth release with the Bad Seeds, is Cave at his most raw and lyrical.
He delves unflinchingly into macabre territory with the backing of his band's spare, moaning, reverb-rich playing--by turns sweetly tuneful and disjointedly dirge-like. PJ Harvey assumes the role of a woman scorned on "Henry Lee," in which she describes stabbing to death the man who rejects her. Her story is interspersed with choruses of, "La la la la la/La la la la lee/A little bird lit down on Henry Lee," adding a sense of perverse humor to the ballad's bleakness. On "Where the Wild Roses Grow," a man kills his lover, explaining that "all beauty must die," and Kylie Minogue provides the innocent, breathy voice of the dead lover with a ghostly, haunting softness. Yet amid the troubling, startling ...

Best Of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. CD music
$9.85 Following up the almost pornographically violent MURDER BALLADS, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds switch gears and come up with an album of...you guessed it, love songs. Though known to many as the Stephen King of rock and roll, Cave has a way with lush, heartfelt ballads, and on THE BOATMAN'S CALL he gets to flex his romantic muscles. Still, with Australia's maven of morbidity at the reigns, you can bet you're not exactly venturing into Elton John territory here.
Cave's romanticism ...

| | Tom Waits Beautiful Maladies: The Island Years CD (1998)
Best Of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. songs
$11.89 Even if Tom Waits had ended his career in the early 1980s, before he moved over to Island Records, he would still be regarded as a mighty member of the singer/songwriter elite. This makes it all the more impressive that he completely re-invented himself after switching labels in the mid-'80s, most notably with the Holy Trinity of SWORDFISHTROMBONES, RAIN DOGS, and FRANK'S WILD YEARS. On these albums, whose highlights make up the meat of BEAUTIFUL MALADIES, Waits abandoned the jazzy, piano-bound beatnik persona he'd carefully maintained throughout the '70s. Instead he created a groundbreaking patchwork that encompassed polkas, blues, deranged cabaret, the avant-garde, and more, in a funhouse-mirror reflection of Howlin' Wolf, Kurt Weill, and Harry Partch. The fact that he'd lost none of his masterful songwriting acumen in the process insured that Waits's Island recordings, so definitively represented here, would be his lasting legacy.
Personnel includes: Tom Waits (vocals, guitar, piano, optigon); Fred Tackett ...
| | Muddy Waters Folk Singer CD (1964) Remastered
Best Of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. album
$7.69 Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24-karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
"You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had" and "The Same Thing" did not appear on the original version of FOLK SINGER. They were recorded at a separate session in April 1964, three months after FOLK SINGER was released.
The title and cover photo of this 1963 recording were an attempt to cash in on the burgeoning American folk revival, but this is pure acoustic blues. Muddy began his career as a Robert Johnson-style solo acoustic performer, and the tunes on FOLK SINGER hark back to those days. He's accompanied sparsely by Willie Dixon, drummer Clifton James and a young Buddy Guy, who provide a stark, deliberate backdrop for Muddy's rich vocal and expressive bottleneck guitar work. The richness of Muddy's baritone is showcased effectively here, with more room than usual for his voice to resonate.
The low-key setting allows Muddy to explore a fuller dynamic range as well. From the romantic yearning of "Long Distance Call" to the fatalism ...

Dark and Brilliant Excellent album. At once dark and touching, you cant be indiferent with songs like "Into my arms", "The carny", "Do you love me?".
To listen this is an experience for every person who loves music, and who loves the independent creations of a complete artist like Nick Cave. Submitted by a reviewer (Chile) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
this cd rules this is not, in fact a "best of" nick cave. instead this is a collection of his later more lyrical and straightforward work. now toward the end of his career cave's work has actually included singing, not yelling, as he is known for, and its pretty, almost choral. but the lyrics are just as metaphysical and crazy as usual, you can still expect murderous lovesongs. thank god for that/ Submitted by a reviewer (washington, dc) Was This Review Helpful? Not a typical compilation. One thing that i noticed when i first listened to this album is that i does not feel like a compilation, instead it feels like a regular album. But at the same time there are a lot of songs that you need to hear that is not on this record. Don`t buy it as a definitive collection of his work, just buy it as a great record.
