On first hearing, the Goo Goo Dolls sound like the Replacements' distant cousins, full of trashy rock bravado tempered by intelligent, often tender lyricism and a penchant for combining ringing acoustic guitars with dirtier sounds for a rich sonic stew. In fact, DIZZY UP THE GIRL finds the Dolls moving further away from the Replacements sound than ever before, with a definite '90s influence to the proceedings. The group's main link to the Replacements (and to Paul Westerberg's main influence, Alex Chilton) is the man-child dichotomy played out over the course of the album. The youthful, energetic spirit that makes DIZZY UP THE GIRL an exciting bit of rock & roll is matched at every step by a world-weariness that gives the jangly alt-rock tunes an air of maturity.

I have yet to find another album as great as this one. I purchased it when it first came out, and the album still never gets old. More impressively, each song could've been turned into a single. Also, The two different vocalists have very different sounds/styles, giving the album much depth; Either of them could've been the lead vocalists for any other band, but instead they combine their talents to give the listeners something to remeber.

I used to hate this band because my first exposure to them was when they were sporting a much tougher sound in their early more punk-ish days ("Never Take The Place Of Your Man" is a good example)and felt they had sold out to a degree with this stuff. But after these hits fell out of pop radio rotation, I felt a longing to hear them again, if only to remind me of the late 90s (a great time in my life). What I discovered is that these songs are timeless, sounding better than I remember them the first time around, and filled with that perfect blend of melody and lyrics that suggests they always existed in the ether of the universe, and Rzeznik and his mates simply were the vessels by which we were able to hear these perfect little gems. Brilliant!

This CD is the best ever. I only borrowed it because I wanted Slide. I burned it for my slef and I listened to it that day and I said I was going to listen to every song to just see. I fell in love with everysong. The only 3 I would listen to before were Iris, Broadway, and Slide. But now I can listen to the whole CD. My new favorite would be Black Balloon. It is so powerfull and buitiful. This CD has songs for every mood you could be it. It just makes you feel good. After listing to one song you are singing it the rest of the day. I totally recomend getting this album

Dizzy up the girl is my absolute favorite album. i recommend it to any one who likes music and is open to many different kinds of music. The goo goo dolls are a very talented group and i feel this is there best work of all there eight cds. Buy it it'll be soothing music for your body and soul.

As a nine year fan. (aged 17) girl. I think that this band is a VERY lost and forgotten Phenomenon! No Kidding. You NEVER find a cd with ALL good songs on it. Goo Goo Dolls and Fuel Sunburn are the only two bands, (there are probably a few more out there) that have ALL one hundred and ten percent fingerprinted value.
