old fave
This was an old favorite of mine from back in middle school and it's like rediscovering the "real" Van Halen all over. Great CD, awesome tunes, good times. Rock on!!

DIVERsified!
This VH album is pretty varied from an acapella song "Happy Trails" and VH show ender for years. a clarinet solo, Jan Van Halen, on "Big Bad Bill...". To even David Lee Roth playing harmonica on "The Full Bug". Add in some of Eddie's solos on "Cathedral", "Intruder" and "Little Guitars". The only drawback to this VH album is too many cover songs. More original material, considering VH's vast catalog of songs from the 70's, which could of been recorded.

still party rock music
i know eddie complained about the amount of covers on this album, but still its way better than anything they did with hagar, and some of the best vh tunes are on here, the full bug is a great song, i love the covers as well, this album just reminds me what it is like to be happy, i like the cover of dancing in the streets, where have all the good times gone, i know eddie took more control on the songwriting on 84, and it turned out to ba a materpiece, i am so much waiting for a new album with roth, finally the wait is over for me, sammy just sucked with these guys.

Ahead of its time
Carrying a perfect blend of new material and well-chosen covers, this superb album - once seen as 'weak' - took some time to reveal its strenght. The band (as always) had a good time, using fun and creative skills to write another great page on the Rock N Roll History book. Still intense after almost 30 years. Buy this.

Something about this album...
I really like this one. While being by far Van Halen's weakest album from the Roth era, it's still really great. There's something magical about it that I can't quite put my finger on. Songs like "Secrets" and "Hang'Em High" are ones that don't get much mention it seems, but are probably some of my favorite tunes ever. "Secrets" especially shows a side of the band that they had not approached. Some of the other tunes are probably "Women and Children First" b-sides, which is great considering "W&CF" is a ground breaking album where they got to branch out and reinvent what they had already set in motion. I love it from top to bottom.
