A pair of brother acts combined forces to form Jodeci, a singing group with one foot in the future and the other squarely in the past. Dalvin and Devante Swing DeGrate teamed with JoJo and K-Ci Hailey for a debut album that mixed vintage soul singing with new jack production and bravado. But it wasn't the hip-hop-flavored songs that earned them popularity; instead, urban contemporary audiences embraced the love tunes "Come and Talk to Me" and the title track, signaling the beginnings of a move away from new jack swing that became a full-fledged retreat. ~ Ron Wynn

Forever My Lady album
$8.75 Raised in the projects of Chicago's South Side, the young R. Kelly displayed an uncanny natural aptitude for the piano, and cut his teeth as a performer by playing a portable electric keyboard and singing with his homies out on the mean streets of the Windy City. The sounds of gospel music and the great romantic balladeers suffuse R. Kelly's work, and on 12 PLAY, his libidinous follow-up to BORN INTO THE 90'S, this gifted singer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist draws upon all his formative experiences to create a sensual, evolutionary style of contemporary R&B.
Evolutionary in that Kelly's a classic heart-throb (with virtuoso chops the likes ...

Forever My Lady songs
$17.19 This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ's Nick Warren and Danny Howells.
Nick Warren and Danny Howells -- both previously featured in the Global Underground series -- each mix a disc on this entry into the similar Renaissance series. And, as you might presume, these mixes are indeed awfully similar to these DJs' previous Global Underground efforts -- nothing but the latest batch of progressive house tracks. Both sets are dark and ominous, only the occasional female vocal shedding any light on these monolithic mixes. This is the sound of progressive house circa 2001. Occasional tracks like Ashley Beedle's Mahavishnu Vocal Mix of Bent's "Always" and Deep Dish's remix of iio's "Rapture" are uplifting moments, but for the most part, they are just brief shimmers of light in otherwise dark and disorienting sets by Warren and Howells. ~ Jason Birchmeier
Formed in 2000, Sin Bandera is comprised of Leonel García and Noel Schajris; the former is from Mexico, the latter Argentina, and both are musicians, composers, and singers. Schajris had already released a solo album, in 1999, but when the two singer/songwriter/musicians befriended one another and realized how complementary they were to one another artistically, they joined together and began to work on songs for an album. García played guitar, Schajris played piano, and fellow musician Aureo Baqueiro assumed the role of producer, also contributing various instrumentation. The guys decided to bill themselves as Sin Bandera (Without a Flag) because of their mixed heritage as well as their belief in unity among diverse peoples.
They debuted with the song "Entra en Mi Vida," an expressive love song that was chosen to be the main theme of a Mexican telenovela, Cuando Seas Mía. Other singles followed, including "Kilómetros" and "Sirena." Released in early 2002, Sin Bandera steadily found international success, mainly in Mexico but also in Spain, Argentina, and the United States -- that is, all the major Latin markets -- in addition to smaller markets like Costa Rica. The album won that year's Latin Grammy for Best Pop Album by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and it also netted a standard ...
