Like all Universal Special Products compilations, the packaging and sound are functional and adequate, but unlike many, the nine other songs on this compilation are an interesting cross-section of the Strawberry Alarm Clock's career, picking non-charting singles, b-sides (the punky "The Birdman of Alkatrash"), and interesting album tracks ("Strawberries Mean Love") from all four of the group's original albums. Serious psych-pop fans may do better with Ace/Big Beat's excellent STRAWBERRIES MEAN LOVE or One Way's ANTHOLOGY, but this is a perfectly reasonable alternative for everyone else.

A brief budget compilation--named, naturally, after the Strawberry Alarm Clock's only hit--INCENSE AND PEPPERMINTS is geared more toward the casual fan or the curious neophyte who might be put off by the import price tag or the much bigger track selection of the other Strawberry Alarm Clock compilations available.

Personnel: Ed King (vocals, guitar); Lee Freeman (vocals, drums, wind); Randy Seol (vocals, drums); Gary Lovetro (vocals); Mark Weitz (keyboards).

3 stars Psychedelic Pop Perfection!
This album is almost good as The Doors minus the dark lyrics. The band is heavily organ-driven and Ed King's guitar work is pretty good. This is a very pop album and it's under twenty-six minutes long. Overall, it's a good album!!

3 stars Times to remember for funs of Progressive Rock
Searching around for good music of the era to enjoy, one always comes upon the name Strawberry Alarm Clock as a characteristic group of the time. Do not expect to enjoy queer psychedelic compositions or vast improvisations! The music of the S.A.C. just flows by in a gay mood, spreading the flower-power essence of the time all along the album. Even so, pay good attention to the title song of the album, since it has been the unique hit of the group ever! Recommended for researchers of the progressive rock - chain through the years!

5 stars Petion Universal, reissue all albums of SAC
I am now trying to collect all the japanese imports as I speak. This band is a trip. Listen to all their songs. It's not just Incense & Peppermints.all their albums are awesome. I started listening to SAC since I was 8 years old because of their other hit,Barefoot in Baltimore. this is a honest to god hippie band of the 60's,like the Grateful Dead was.I have 3,the world in a seashell, and 2 different greatest hits albums on CD(1 or more songs weren't included on 1 CD and visa versa on each GH CD). Now,i'm going for all 4. I have #1 and #2,#3,#4 are on their way. Take my word, when I'm in any place that sells CD,I do look for SAC. Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd was in SAC before he joined that band. Does that say allot?

5 stars An incredible debut album
What negative things can be said about such a lovely, gentle, non-violent group such as the Clock? If groups these days followed their lead, the entire world (and the music world also) would be a much better place to be. Thanks SAC! You're my ALL TIME fav!

5 stars Simply excellent rock music in a sublime psychedelic wash
It's a little sad that what one hears in this recording was recorded 34 years ago. We would never know just how special the late 60s were musically until it was long over with but this album contains, regardless of when it was recorded, a musical quality that simply brings out that which we could ever hold near and dear in life. If you are in love, the music in this album makes you feel even more in love. If you have hope for a better life, this music gives you even more hope. It just evokes a special feeling that nothing out today even comes close to. And it's a shame that one can't go to a concert and relish this sound live with a few thousand other people as the walls between people come down which is what rock concerts could only do in the amazing late 60s...
