Days Of The New frontman Travis Meeks is probably pretty sick of being told how much older he sounds on tape. Judging from the band's self-titled debut, the deep-voiced 18 year-old has apparently been brooding for a lot longer than he's been shaving. He could send Scott Weiland and James Hetfield running back to their growling coach, while his lyrics explore youthful ennui with uncommon maturity.

"Solitude" moves from a spacey, angelic intro to a sinister vocal trade-off, while "Touch, Peel And Stand" juxtaposes attention-grabbing off-time accents with a slow, languorous chorus. Produced by Scott Litt (R.E.M), the sonic foundation of DAYS OF THE NEW is made up of acoustic guitars, close, double-tracked vocal harmonies, and a straightforward, powerful rhythm section. Guitarist Todd Whitener contributes acrobatic lead work, contrasting perfectly with DAYS OF THE NEW's slow, melancholic burn.

5 stars Without question the best DOTN CD
The two best songs that Meeks ever wrote are on this CD and they're the first two tracks. These two songs are followed by two more songs that are almost equally as good.

5 stars Orange
Orange is the first CD from Days Of The New and I really love it.. but I honestly can't pick a favorite out of the three albums out. Stand out tracks on Orange, aside from the classics Touch, Peel And Stand and Shelf In The Room are Whimsical, Now, Solitude, Cling and Where I Stand. On most of the songs (But not Freak or Cling!), Travis is a bit more mellow then on the other two CDs, and the music is mellower too, focusing on acoustic guitar. But that doesn't mean this album doesn't rock! You just have to listen to Freak or Face Of The Earth to know that it sure does. If I was forced to take just ONE album with me onto a desert Island it would probably be Green.. but you'd have to pry Orange from my hands first :) BUY IT!!!

5 stars GREAT ALBUM MUST BUY!!
Everybody should buy this album. Everysong is well mastered, especially if you love guitar. Even though Travis is the only one left on the new CD, i'm sure it'll be as good as this one.

5 stars An Overlooked Classic
The Red cd (III) is a must have for DOTN fans and anyone who appreciates good music in general. This cd did NOT get the promotion it deserved from the label. This cd is worth buying if it only had one song on it - that song being "Die Born" which will take your breath away. Possibly the greatest song Travis has ever written. Another highlight is "Dirty Road" a song about wandering that is simply heartbreaking. "Dancing In The Wind" closes the cd and is simply beautiful. Take my advice - buy this cd.
