| | Good Will Hunting Soundtrack CD (1 Customer Review)
For a movie so ostensibly family-oriented, the soundtrack to Good Will Hunting contains some pretty damn disconsolate music. The bulk of the songs here are provided by Heatmiser main man Elliott Smith, whose melancholy solo work far outshines his more rockist band outings, and has gained him far more acclaim. Smith songs like "No Name #3" and "Miss Misery" plumb the depths of despair without ever getting too noisy about their self-pity. We would use Nick Drake as a reference, were the comparison not rendered moot by the way Drake's name is tossed about recklessly in connection to every moe with a Prozac prescription and an acoustic guitar. Every late-'90s soundtrack is required by law to include at least one retro '70s cut. This album makes good use of that requirement to slip in Al Green's delectable rendition of the Bee Gees' classic torch song "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart." Pass the headphones and the Kleenex.

Good Will Hunting Soundtrack
$11.65 elliott smith played in a few great rock bands before becoming a well known artist in his own right- in the mid nineties. the most notable of those bands was portland, oregons' heatmiser.in 1993, after releasing a scortching hot heatmiser 7" single on cavity search, elliotts' then girlfriend delivered a gorgeously sparse and hushed acoustic record of elliotts' 4-track "kitchen table" recordings to cavity search records - and they talked him into releasing it as "roman candle" in 1994.after several critically acclaimed cds and a spotlight in gus van sants' award winning "good will hunting" movie/soundtrack - elliott smith has become a household name headed for legendary status even before his 30th birthday!the future looks bright and the fans are coming from all points on the globe!
In a world full of self-pitying shoegazer troubadours celebrated for their own misery, Elliot Smith stands apart from the pack. At the time of this release, who ...
| | Elliott Smith Xo CD (1998)
Good Will Hunting Soundtrack
$11.99 The Cinderella-esque climb from lo-fi indie cult artist to Grammy nominee/major label darling must have been a perilous one for Smith, who makes the leap to the big time here after three well-regarded albums on small labels. He's lost none of his bite, though. The production values on XO may be slightly higher, but Smith's vision remains undiluted.
The production, centered around acoustic guitar augmented by keyboards and lush vocal harmonies, recalls pop icons like the Beach Boys (especially on the closing acapella cut), Beatles and Big Star, but this is no sunny Cali-pop album. Leavening the instrumental brightness ...

Good Will Hunting Soundtrack
$11.99 On his first record since his Oscar nomination courtesy director Gus Van Zandt's use of his music in the film "Good Will Hunting," Elliott Smith returns with another album's worth of gorgeous misery. Like Nick Drake before him, Smith has the ability to conjure beautifully poignant pathos, wrapping it in an elaborately arranged package worthy of a George Martin or Brian Wilson. Working with Beck/Foo Fighters producer Rob Schnapf, Smith uses Abbey Road Studios for some of these sessions, dressing up his tortured lyrics with orchestral arrangements that avoid ...
