| | Paul McCartney Paul Is Live CD Paul McCartney Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
PAUL IS LIVE features 24 live tracks with two previously unreleased new songs (which were recorded at soundchecks). The 11 Beatles songs featured on PAUL IS LIVE did not appear on McCartney's previous live album TRIPPING THE LIVE FANTASTIC.
Even though PAUL IS LIVE was McCartney's third live album in as many years, most of its twenty-four tracks are not repeated from McCartney's 1990 live set, TRIPPING THE LIVE FANTASTIC. Recorded during McCartney's 1993 American tour, PAUL IS LIVE features exceptionally energetic performances from the ex-Beatle and a great band that includes Hamish Stuart (ex-Average White Band) and two former members of The Pretenders, drummer Blair Cunningham and guitarist Robbie McIntosh.
Since most of McCartney's solo hits had already been featured on TRIPPING THE LIVE FANTASTIC, PAUL IS LIVE focuses on songs like "Hope of Deliverance" and "Biker Like an Icon" from his then-current OFF THE GROUND album. Also included are such previously unperformed Beatles songs as "Paperback Writer," "Penny Lane" and a gorgeous version of "Here, There and Everywhere." Unlike McCartney's 1976 WINGS OVER AMERICA live album, the songs on PAUL IS LIVE are presented exactly as they were performed on stage and they capture McCartney--as he sings on one of the rock and roll oldies that he performs on this album--delivering plenty of "Good Rocking Tonight."
Personnel: Paul McCartney (vocals, bass, electric & acoustic guitars, piano); Hamish Stuart (electric & acoustic guitars, bass, background vocals); Robbie McIntosh (electric & acoustic guitars, background vocals); Linda McCartney, Wix Wickens (keyboards, background vocals); Blair Cunningham (drums, percussion).
Engineers: Geoff Emerick, Julian Mendelsohn, Bob Kraushaar.Q (1/94, p.96) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...The performances are seamless without being anodyne and the revisitings of Beatles classics are genuinely vibrant and uncluttered with modern twaddle...." Stereo Review (3/94, p.98) - Performance: Value For Money / Recording: Adequate - "...It's a real live album, complete with bum notes and foibles that make it more human....early Beatles stuff is wonderful..." Paul Is Live Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Hmmmmm........ What do you think? I don't know. Sure, Paul was resurrecting old Beatles songs that haven't been heard in a fresh sense in a long time. But in all honesty, these live versions of Beatles songs are not as good as the original songs. Magical Mystery Tour falls flat, in all honesty. He shouldn't have tried it, much less put it on the live album. But, oh well, that's macca for you. He ain't perfect, but he tries his best. He especially does good on the oldies-but-goodies, and the softer, more elegaic Beatles numbers. For the hard-core fan, but not for casual fans, is my final comment. | | Ozzy Osbourne Live At Budokan CD (2002)
Paul Is Live
$6.95 Recorded live at Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan on February 15, 2002.
This is a (multi-channel) Super Audio CD, playable only Super Audio CD players.
Fans fretting that Ozzy's reputation has been transformed into that of a distaff Robert Young thanks to the runaway success of the MTV reality show The Osbournes can breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing the fire-breathing performance rendered on LIVE AT BUDOKAN. Fronting a quartet that includes longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde (latest in a long line of hot-shot guitarists dating back to the late Randy Rhodes), Suicidal Tendencies bassist Robert Trujillo, and Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin, the Ozzman is in ferociously fine form.
Hop-scotching through his considerable canon with Wylde providing molten riffs throughout, Ozzy delivers scalding versions of classics ranging from "I Don't Know" and "Crazy Train" to an over-the-top reading of "Mr. Crowley" juiced up by John Sinclair's ominous keyboard intro. Ozzy shows ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne Ozzmosis CD (1995) Remastered
Paul Is Live
$7.59 Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing.
Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting.
But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. His songs still spew biting ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne The Ozzman Cometh CD (1997)
Paul Is Live
$9.69 THE OZZMAN COMETH is a single CD collection of hits, previously unavailable recordings and one new track. Previously included a limited edition second disc containing 2 of the 4 previously unavailable recordings as well as an interview with Ozzy Osbourne.
As if we needed another reason to believe that Ozzy Osbourne is God, along comes THE OZZMAN COMETH, a double CD retrospective of one of the most enduring and influential figures in heavy metal. Consisting mostly of his post-Black Sabbath solo work as well as a live version of "Paranoid," this collection's biggest asset is the so-called "basement tapes," never-before-heard rehearsal tapes of four classic Sabbath songs. Dating back to 1970, "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs" are the songs that transformed a petty thief from Birmingham, England into the godfather of heavy metal.
But if Sabbath cemented his place in the rock 'n' roll canon, his solo work raised him to legendary status. Working with former Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, Osbourne set the tone for the 80's metal revival with songs like "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley." Capping off the collection ...
