Future Echo
Pink Floyd's best pre-"Dark Side" album presented a prescient precursor to all the recorded output that followed, defining the Floyd's adeptness at numerous musical genres and sonic innovation. "One Of These Days" opens the proceedings, a manic, pulsing "freak out" instrumental that features Nick Mason's distorted vocal line before climaxing in howling wind; "A Pillow Of Winds" is a gentle acoustic piece, much needed after its predecessor; "Fearless" a country-tinged tune whose homage to Syd Barrett is underscored by the KOP chorus' intonation of "You'll Never Walk Alone"; "San Tropez" a cocktail lounge jazzy ballad and "Seamus" a jokey blues which is a wickedly humorous manner in which to close side one. The centerpiece, of course, is the near 24 minute "Echoes" which includes a breath-defying use of sonics and synthesizer madness. I never tire of hearing that epic. "Meddle" is, of course, where David Gilmour really develops as a talented musician (those seagull and whale cries on "Echoes" is amazing) and the LP provides some hints at what was to follow from "Dark Side" to "The Division Bell". This is an excellent starting point to delve into the Pink Floyd realm.

It's an Ear full.
Yes the cover picture is an ear for those who thought it was a nose you don't smell music you listen to it. This album is fantastic. Pink Floyd is original they do their music like no other's, they don't bite. I have heard many newer bands like Audioslave of which stick to a very noticable and simple formula for all their songs. Even Pearl Jam did this on their latest album. Basically these really great bands use the same formula and layout for an entire album. This is so gey'. Right when they start jamming and it get's good then they stop and sing another verse, our the outro to a song is just to short. Why are these bands so systematic? That's what seperates Pink Floyd. They do what they feel. They will jam out for a few minutes then start singing, or visa versa, they will jam after they sing some verses. Just an observation about today's music and yesterday's.

Best "early" Mr Floyd
Barrett's gone and we haven't gotten into Waters' Cynicism yet. So we get to hear an extended David Gilmour. Gilmour's guitar work is just a precursor of things to come. I could listen to Gilmour and Mr. Floyd all day.
