When EMI signed the teenage prodigy Kate Bush, the label claimed that in order to nurture her talent, it wouldn't release her first album until she had a few years to grow up. As a result, her debut, THE KICK INSIDE, didn't see daylight for three years. On the other hand, her second album, LIONHEART, was rush-released only nine months after the success of its predecessor. Fortunately, Kate still had some leftover songs from the debut session, helping make her sophomore effort an equally strong offering.
With the wisdom of someone much older, Kate looks at sex, spirituality, and death in "Symphony in Blue"; at childhood in "Peter Pan"; and the trauma of relationships in "Fullhouse" and "Don't Push Your Foot on the Heartbreak." Her handwritten lyrics for the beautiful "Oh England My Lionheart" give her away--the handwriting is that of the 16-year-old she was at the time. As Kate often said in those days, "wow."
Out of print in the U.S., this is the second album by theacclaimed British pop vocalist. Contains all 10 of thetracks from when EMI first released it in 1978, including'Oh England, My Lionheart' and the single 'Wow'. Alsofeatures the original cover art. An EMI release.

An enigmatic helping of sound and prose This disc will delicatly light upon your ears then burrow to the deepest core of your soul. It is neo-postmodern mind programing of the first order. People in the know definitly know of this album of recordings and for good reason. Its content contains lush sound style without over-production and lyrics of rare perpective from an un-assuming source. It is sure to sneak under your radar and make a lasting impression. Lionheart I always wondered why Kate fans didn't like this album as much as Kate’s other earlier work. Sit down/lay down, whatever you want to do, and just listen to it thoroughly, it's brilliant. "Symphony In Blue" 4/5, "In Search Of Peter Pan" 4/5, "Wow" 5/5, "Don't Push Your Foot On The Heartbrake" 4.5/5, "Oh England My Lionheart" 3.5/5, "Full House" 4/5, "In The Warm Room" (my least liked song on the album) 3/5, "Kashka From Baghdad" 4.5/5, "Coffee Homeground" 4/5, and "Hammer Horror" (this song is a glimpse of one of Kate’s later masterwork albums, The Dreaming) 5/5. For me, this album is more ahead of its time than The Kick Inside. Submitted by Trky_Lym (Vancouver, B.C.) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
