Southern Rap;Feat.Noreaga,Hot Boyz,Gangsta Boo,Krazie Bone++
Personnel includes: Project Pat (rap vocals); Juvenile, Hot Boyz, Noreaga, Crucial Conflict, Three 6 Mafia, Gangsta Boo, Krayze Bone. Then known almost exclusively for his affiliation with Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat introduced his large self to the world on Ghetty Green, the solo debut album he recorded with producers DJ Paul and Juicy J. Like most other Hypnotized Minds releases during the late '90s, Ghetty Green raised the bar for hardcore rap. While Three 6 Mafia had always come hard on its albums, Project Pat isn't a collective like the Mafia but rather one man -- a very large man with a large temper and large presence. Thus, his debut was a big one and, although Ghetty Green doesn't have a widely known song like "Chickenhead," it does offer several appearances by the Cash Money Millionaires, who were similarly making a name for themselves in the South at the time. If you want to hear the roots of Memphis hardcore rap, you need to hear this album. It's a landmark. ~ Jason Birchmeier With the signing of Project Pat, Loud Records, a label usually known for cutting-edge East Coast hip-hop like Wu Tang Clan and Mobb Deep, branched out to the South. The 20-track GHETTY GREEN is straight South ghetto-style hip-hop, laced with the smooth yet creative MC style of Project Pat. Sprinkled with guest spots from artists like Noreaga & Tear The Club Up Thugs ("Represent It"), Krayzie Bone ("Up There"), and Gangsta Boo ("Slangin' Rocks"), this collection will satisfy from start to finish. There are also some killer posse cuts like "Ballers," featuring the Big Tymers, Hot Boyz, and Three 6 Mafia; "Choppers," featuring B.G. and the Big Tymers; and "Rinky Dink/Whatever Ho," which features the Hypnotize Camp Posse. GHETTY GREEN packs plenty of punch, even for big-time Southern heavyweights.

Recorded at Hypnotize Minds Studios, Memphis Tennessee. Released in conjunction with the straight-to-video film of the same name, Choices isn't a soundtrack but rather another in a long line of spun-off Three 6 Mafia albums. Like most post-'90s releases by the group, Choices features remarkable production from beginning to end by Juicy J and DJ Paul, and it also features a couple of standout tracks, in this case the opening few: "2-Way Freak," "Mafia," and "Baby Mama." From there the songwriting unwinds a bit as the tracks remain well ...

Recorded at Hypnotized Minds Studio, Memphis, Tennessee. Audio Mixer: Juicy J. Recording information: Hypnotized Minds Studio, Memphis, TN. Delayed several times while he sorted out a parole violation, Project Pat's fourth album wasn't quite worth the wait. True, he's a solid rapper, but the rudimentary productions and an assortment of played-out themes swamp Layin' da Smack Down. His brother, Juicy J, along with DJ Paul (the Supa Producers) are responsible for the production, and though it's clear ...
| | NRBQ Tapdancin' Bats - The Anniversary Edition CD (1983)
Ghetty Green
$13.65 This is without question one of the 'Q's [read: NRBQ's] best compilations -- displaying many facets of the band's instrumental agility and uncanny sonic reinventions. Chronologically, Tapdancin' Bats represents the quartet during the mid- to late '70s. However, a number of the tunes -- most notably "Ain't It Alright" and "Trouble at the Henhouse" -- date as far back as 1972's Scraps album, which was the first to feature "Big" Al Anderson (guitar). The disc also represents the final chapter in their association with the Bearsville record label ...
