"Like The Rain" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Clint Black is at the vanguard of modern country music, having been among the first to successfully blend the honky-tonk feel of Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell with the sound of current pop and rock. The one tune on this collection of his 1989-1996 work that he didn't write isn't a Williams or Frizzell tune or anything like that; it's a cover of the Eagles' "Desperado." There are three other previously-unreleased Black tracks here to go with a dozen hits that cover the highlights of his so-far very consistent, very modern career.
All of Black's milestones are here, from the moody, atmospheric "Like The Rain" to the bluesy groove of "Half Way Up." Not just a pretty face with a cowboy hat, Black shows off the breadth of his compositional prowess, and a great workingman's voice.
Along with Garth Brooks, Clint Black was part of the first wave of "hat acts"--cowboy-hatted hunks singing country music influenced as much by classic rock and pop as by George and Merle. But as his first GREATEST HITS collection demonstrates, Black was one of the few "hat acts" who had more than a pretty smile underneath that lid. Unlike most country artists, Black writes all his own material, and the songs collected here are among his best: deeply emotional works filled with finely-wrought lyrics

Greatest Hits album
$9.59 Recorded between June 26, 1989 and May 31, 1995. Includes liner notes by Alan Jackson.
With twenty songs (two of them newly recorded) and more than an hour of playing time, THE GREATEST HITS COLLECTION is particularly generous by Nashville standards, and it shows off how easily this blonde-haired honky-tonk hero can wear a variety of country hats. Included are a few songs from each of Jackson's four hit albums, and they range from the waltzing regret of "(Who Says) You Can't Have It All" and the stately, vintage balladry of "I'd Love You All Over Again," to the jangly country-rock of "Gone Country" and flat-out barn-burners like "Chattahoochee."
Jackson has a magnificent voice that registers halfway between George Jones' low drawl and Dwight Yoakam's nasally impudent twang, and he's comfortable in either of his predecessors' milieus. The proof is in the cover songs--Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" is pure Yoakam country, and "Tall, Tall Trees" is a great, early Jones/Roger Miller ...

Any artist who's able to put out a second volume of hits must be doing something right. In the case of contempo-country megastar Clint Black, that particular something is a knack for striking just the right balance between old-school country music values and modern, pop-oriented songcraft and production. As GREATEST HITS II makes undeniably clear, Black walks that line with commitment and aplomb. On "Nothing's New" Black observes that "there's nothing like a steel guitar crying at night" and his assertion is borne out by the tune's arrangement. Traditionalist ...

| | Benjy Wertheimer Soul Of The Esraj CD (2000)
Greatest Hits CD music
$14.69 Soul of the Esraj is a musical canvas for the practices of healing arts, hatha yoga and meditation. While the album has its roots in the classical music of North India, many elements of New Age and contemporary ambient musical styles have been included to build a multifaceted soundscape for each listener's spiritual journey. It is Benjy's hope and prayer that Soul of the Esraj will prove to be a steady and soulful companion to each listener on their path through this precious gift of life. The pieces on the CD feature the esraj (an instrument from North India that resembles a small sitar but is played with a bow) accompanied by instruments from around the world, including bass flute, Celtic harp, viola da gamba, voice, and guitar. Indian classical ragas (ancient melodic forms) are associated with a particular time of day, and the selections on Soul of the Esraj flow through a sequence based on the ragas from which they are derived."The heart opens its doors to receive the Beloved in the form of the 'Soul of the Esraj.' Words fall at the feet of this music as we enter into the beauty that lifts us into ourselves. We find a home here, a place to rest and a haven from the storms on the ocean of this world. This is not just music, it is prayer." -Krishna Das"When I listen to Benjy play the esraj it transports me beyond the Beyond. 'Soul of the Esraj' is a must-have CD for all yoga practitioners." ...
