This 1997 reissue of BLUE HAWAII is remixed and remastered from the original three-track master tapes and includes 8 extra tracks.
Elvis' theatrical ouevre found him portraying singing busboys, singing prizefighters, even a singing doctor in love with a nun, all of which makes his role as the heir to a pineapple fortune in "Blue Hawaii" sound positively prosaic. But Elvis and Hawaii were made for each other like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and "Blue Hawaii" became one of his most successful movies. The soundtrack was the No. 1 record in the U.S. for an astonishing 20 weeks, making it Elvis' most commercially successful LP, and one of the most successful LPs of all time.
Like most of Elvis' soundtracks, the album contains some real gems surrounded by some real dross. This 1997 reissue is remastered and remixed from the original master tapes, and includes several extra tracks. Amid such frivolities as "Rock-A-Hula Baby" (co-written by Ed Wood's girlfriend Dolores Fuller) are classic tracks like "Can't Help Falling In Love." The reissue adds the actual on-screen version of this prime Elvis ballad.

Blue Hawaii Soundtrack Music Review
Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Great Elvis music! This Blue Hawaii cd took me back to my middle school years. I remember seeing Blue Hawaii at the drive-in movie. I thought Elvis was at his musical best in this movie. I just had to have the cd so I could listen to all the great tunes again. My favorites are Slicin Sand, Almost Always True, Rock-A-Hula Baby, Ito Eats. Oh, I guess they are all my favorites. There were even a few songs on this cd that I was unfamiliar with. What a surprise....they were good too! If you know what's good for you, you just have to buy this cd. Submitted by a reviewer (Hiawatha, IA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? A strong three stars A hugely popular film and soundtrack, emphasizing romance: some stunning ballads like "Ku-u-ipo", "Hawaiian Sunset", and the classical-based "Can't Help Falling In Love" and "No More", the latter of which would have made a great operatic entry for Elvis, but predictably he croons it pretty much; and almost-rockin' tunes like "Rock A-Hula Baby" , "Slicin' Sand", "Almost Always True", featuring sax genius Homer "Boots" Randolph. Unfortunately there's the expected bunch which relate to the light-hearted script only - "Ito Eats", "Beach Boy Blues".
Nowhere near as well-produced as studio albums like "Elvis Is Back", but the light impact mix suits the celluloid image. Submitted by Phil (Red Bank, New Jersey, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
An Elvis Favorite Blue Hawwaii, is my favorite Elvis movie. The sound track is superb, there are no dud songs, unlike other sound tracks.... I bought the original LP years back. The extra's on the CD are very interesting, showing how they arrived at the released take. A Fantastic Album for a Fantastic Singer Submitted by hubba45 (Wollongong Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
