| | Clint Black D'Lectrified CD Clint Black Discography of CDs
"When I Said I Do" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals.
D'LECTRIFIED, which was recorded entirely with acoustic instruments, is a brilliant exploration of Clint Black's musical roots, as well as a showcase for his superb songwriting and vocals. D'LECTRIFIED includes covers of classic tracks, new original songs, and reworkings of Black's previous hits. The cover versions, which include songs by Leon Russell ("Dixie Lullabye"), the Marshall Tucker Band ("Bob Away My Blues"), and even Monty Python's Eric Idle ("The Galaxy Song"), are enhanced by guest appearances from the likes of Bruce Hornsby, Edgar Winter, Waylon Jennings, and even Idle himself.
The new songs are the sort of melodic, well-written tracks you'd expect from Black, and these are also enhanced by collaborations. Black's duet with Steve Wariner on the groovin' "Been There" is one of the album's highlights, while the beautiful "When I Said I Do" features vocals from Black's wife, actress/singer Lisa Hartman. But the real revelation just might be the old songs. Black has completely reinvented his hits "Burn One Down" and "No Time to Kill" with cool, funky arrangements that incorporate horns and Hornsby's piano. Black's talents as a country hitmaker are well-documented, but D'LECTRIFIED proves him to be a true musical visionary.

| | Five Chinese Brothers Window Shopper's Christmas CD (1997)
D'Lectrified music CDs
$16.45 This is not your typical Christmas album. 5 Chinese Brothers adopt a variety of generic folk, country, and rock & roll song styles and then write new, gently comic, Christmas-themed lyrics over them. For example, "Dept. Store Santa Claus Strike" borrows the talking-blues folk song structure most familiar from Woody Guthrie's "Pretty Boy Floyd" for a tale of Santa's management-labor dispute, while "The Fruitcake Song" borrows the shave-and-a-haircut rhythm of "Bo Diddley" to discuss the persistence of that most inedible of Christmas foods, and "Missing Miss December" is a rock & roll tune about a centerfold. The result is a likable collection that will serve as a change of pace from those Bing Crosby and Mannheim Steamroller records during the holiday season. ~ William Ruhlmann
Five Chinese Brothers have some major-league fans. That\'s why their first album, Singer Songwriter Beggarman Thief, received glowing reviews in CMJ, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, Stereo Review, CD Review, and Esquire. That\'s why their second album, Stone Soup, rode the Gavin Americana chart for more than three months, spending six weeks in the top ten. And that\'s why they were invited to appear on VH-1\'s Country Countdown with Travis Tritt and NPR\'s World Cafe.Five Chinese Brothers incorporate the best of all types of roots music. That\'s why they are welcome at rock clubs, listening rooms, coffee houses, and outdoor festivals. That\'s why such diverse ...
| | French Impressionists Selection Of Songs CD (2004) Bonus Tracks
D'Lectrified songs
$18.85 Having only appeared via singles and compilations in the early '80s, the French Impressionists had a reputation that was truly limited to the Crepuscule label fanatic, at least until the crackerjack LTM label came to the rescue. Once again demonstrating label boss James Nice's ear for what to reissue, A Selection of Songs -- borrowing its title from the band's debut EP -- collects everything the band formally recorded, plus some live tracks and late-'80s solo suites by Malcolm Fisher to boot. Jazz-influenced but dedicated more to keyboard-led finger-snapping pop winners than, say, the more rhythmic and exploratory work of their semi-contemporaries the Swamp Children, the French Impressionists come across as a sometimes rough but generally winning proposition. Starting the compilation with "Pick Up the Rhythm," showcasing Louise Ness' high-pitched ghost of the mid-century vocals and Fisher's light and enjoyable piano playing, was a smart move, and ...

With the super fast shred lines on the acoustic on the song "Behind The Wheel", the high speed Flamenco style picking on "The Race Across The Desert", the Percussive slapping on "Y-Not, to the beautiful fingerstyle picking on "High Above The Clouds". ...
